• Brayan Bello allows two over five in Opening Day win
Brayan Bello gave up two runs over five innings with a pair of strikeouts in a victory over the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Bello allowed five hits without issuing a free pass. The right-hander didn’t have his best stuff and dealt with some traffic, but he was able to escape damage outside of a two-run homer by Mitch Haniger. The Red Sox were counting on the 24-year-old to be a big part of their rotation regardless, but the injuries to the Boston pitching staff have created added importance for Bello’s success in 2024. His next scheduled start is a friendly matchup on paper against the lowly Athletics early next week. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago
  • Tyler O’Neill homers on fifth straight Opening Day
Tyler O’Neill homered, scored two runs and drew a walk in a 6-4 win for the Red Sox over the Mariners on Thursday.

Advice: Amazingly, that makes five straight Opening Days that O’Neill has gone deep. This one was a solo shot in the eighth inning off Cody Bolton to extend Boston’s lead to 6-4. O’Neill also came around to score on a fielder’s choice in the fourth on a throw that hit the outfielder in the head on a poor throw from Josh Rojas. O’Neill has shown flashes of brilliance in his time in the majors — occasionally long stretches of them — and he’ll get a chance to hit in the middle of the order to begin 2024 with the Red Sox. • Clobbers pair of homers
Martini went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a two-run home run during Thursday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: Martini filled the DH role against right-hander Josiah Gray and delivered home runs off the aforementioned Gray in back-to-back innings. He was responsible for driving in five of Cincinnati's eight runs on the day. Although it's unlikely Martini etches out an everyday spot in the Reds lineup, he'll have the opportunity to force the team's hand with a hot start during TJ Friedl's (wrist) and Matt McLain's (shoulder) IL stints. • Impresses in Opening Day win
Montas (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings and allowed four hits and no walks while striking out four in Thursday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: While the Nats offense isn't expected to light MLB on fire this season, Montas going six scoreless in Great American Ballpark is a noteworthy accomplishment -- especially after logging a 5.94 ERA this spring. Although Montas doesn't have the stuff he had in prior years, he should be in a solid position to succeed if he can keep walks allowed to a minimum. He'll likely have a tougher time in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to come against the Phillies. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago
  • JJ Bleday picks up pair of hits in loss to Guardians
JJ Bleday went 2-for-4 with a double in a blowout loss to the Guardians on Thursday.

Advice: Bleday was one of the few players who had any success against a dominant Shane Bieber in the opener, and he was the only Oakland hitter to have multiple hits Thursday. The former first-round pick has not shown any consistent success at the highest level, but the rebuilding Athletics will give him a chance to show he can live up to the promise he showed at Vanderbilt. Fantasy managers should not take the same chance. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago

  • José Ramírez triples in blowout win over A’s
José Ramírez tripled and drove in a run during Thursday’s blowout win over the Athletics.

Advice: Ramírez plated Steven Kwan with his triple and then came around to score on a sacrifice fly from David Fry. That was the only hit in the game for the perennial MVP candidate, but if you’re only gonna get one knock, why not make it a triple? Expect plenty more big games for Ramírez throughout the 2024 season. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago
  • Surprises with first career save
Hernandez tossed a scoreless 12th inning to earn his first save in Thursday's Opening Day win over Miami.

Advice: The lefty reliever had been called up from Triple-A earlier in the day and with closer David Bednar unavailable due to a lingering lat issue, Hernandez took advantage of his opportunity by throwing nine of 11 pitches for strikes in a blemish-free 12th to pick up his first career save. The Pirates are currently missing a couple of bullpen arms to start the season, putting Hernandez in position to help the bullpen prior to a likely return trip to Triple-A once the Bucco bullpen returns to full capacity. • David Fry picks up three hits in blowout
David Fry went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI in a rout of the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Fry drove in his run in the ninth with a sacrifice fly in the ninth that cemented a strong showing for the 28-year-old catcher. While he normally is behind the plate, the right-handed hitting backstop was the DH for the opener with Alex Wood on the mound, and he was one of several Cleveland hitters able to have a quality evening against an ineffective Alex Wood. Fry’s ability to hit lefties is intriguing, but he should remain off the fantasy radar for now. Rotoworld 31 minutes ago

  • Drives in four
Santander went 1-for-4 with a home run and four RBI on Thursday against the Angels.

Advice: Santander drove in Baltimore's first run of the season on a fielder's choice in the first inning. However, he did his biggest damage three frames later, when he took Jose Suarez yard for a two-run homer -- his first of the season. Santander has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last two campaigns and should remain an excellent source of counting stats in 2024. Rotowire.com 35 minutes ago
