  • Ackley drives in a 2 runs in win vs. Angels
Dustin Ackley went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI as the Mariners' stomped the Angels 13-2 on Tuesday.

Advice: Ackley has missed a lot of time recently with bone spurs in his ankle. The injury makes it difficult for him to plant and pivot off the foot. So long as Ackley can tolerate the pain, he'll be in the lineup. He's now slashing .251/.298/.397 through 133 games. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols (hamstring) has an RBI on Tuesday
Albert Pujols (hamstring) went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Tuesday versus the Mariners.

Advice: Pujols exited Monday's game early due to a cramp in his left hamstring incurred on a three-run double in the third inning. The veteran admitted after the game that he was suffering from dehydration. He made it through the entirety of this contest without issue. Rotoworld.com

  • Rasmus doesn't allow a run across 4 innings
Cory Rasmus fired four shutout innings against the Mariners on Tuesday.

Advice: Rasmus only allowed one hit and no walks in the mini-gem, striking out four. Instead of doing the predictable thing and trading for a mediocre starter to fill Garrett Richards' old rotation spot, Angels manager Mike Scioscia decided to make the turn a bullpen day, always to be kicked off by Rasmus. This was Rasmus' fourth consecutive start, and he hasn't thrown more than 49 pitches in any of them (43 tonight). Rasmus (2.57 ERA) has a nice matchup on deck with the Rangers coming to town, but don't expect him to pitch long enough to have a shot at a win. Rotoworld.com

  • Rookie OF Liriano has 3 hits against Phillies
Rymer Liriano finished 3-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's win against the Phillies.

Advice: This was only Liriano's fourth multi-hit game in 31 big league contests, and it set his new career-high for hits in a game. The 23-year-old's tools are evident in games, but the production hasn't been nearly good enough to guarantee him an Opening Day start next spring. Liriano is slashing .228/.294/.283 with a homer, four steals, and a 28/7 K/BB ratio. He'd whiffed in nine of his last 10 games, but managed to avoid a punch out this evening. Rotoworld.com

  • SP Burnett coughs up 4 ER to Padres in loss
A.J. Burnett coughed up five runs -- four earned -- in 5 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Phillies fell to the Padres.

Advice: Burnett struck out four, walked four, and gave up eight hits, one of which was a two-run homer by Alexi Amarista. For whatever reason, Burnett had all kinds of trouble with San Diego's slap-hitting infielder. This start was actually a bit better than his most recent work, as the veteran had gone 2-7 with a 5.68 ERA in his last nine starts. Burnett's next outing takes place in Oakland on Sunday. • Kazmir shaky in setback against the Rangers
Scott Kazmir was punted around for six runs -- four earned -- on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday in the A's 6-3 loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Kazmir got through the first three innings without a hitch, but things fell apart in the fourth, when Jake Smolinski's two-run homer kicked off a three-run frame. After three of the first four batters reached in the fifth inning, Bob Melvin had seen enough. This start continues a disturbing trend. Even coming off a complete game against the White Sox in which he allowed just one run, Kazmir had gone 0-3 with an 8.20 ERA over his last four starts. Many owners don't have a better option to replace him with, so hope for the best when Kazmir (3.44 ERA) hosts Philadelphia on Sunday. Rotoworld.com

  • Gillaspie's three-run triple crushes Royals
Conor Gillaspie hit a three-run triple in the seventh inning, and the White Sox held on to beat the Royals 7-5 on Tuesday.

Advice: With one out and runners on the corners, the Royals opted to walk Jose Abreu to bring up Gillaspie. The 27-year-old made them pay for that decision, ripping a triple into the gap to clear the bases and give the White Sox the lead. The triple was surprisingly his fifth of the season, giving him 57 RBI. Gillaspie finished 2-for-5 in the game to raise his season line to a strong .293/.345/.433. Rotoworld.com

  • Parra hits ninth home run in win over Cards
Gerardo Parra went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Parra was one of the few Brewers capable of getting to Cardinals starter Lance Lynn, taking him deep to right in the fourth inning for a solo shot. Parra also doubled in the 11th inning but was stranded on base. The outfielder now has nine home runs to go with a .267/.314/.381 line on the year, but he's been especially rejuvenated since being dealt to the Brewers -- Parra is batting .305 in 95 at-bats since the deadline trade. • Rodriguez closes out Cardinals for 42nd save
Francisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless 12th inning to earn the save against the Cardinals Tuesday.

Advice: K-Rod was asked to retire Matt Adams, Jhonny Peralta and Yadier Molina, and he needed just 11 pitches to accomplish the feat. His 42 saves are the most in a season since he saved 62 games in 2008. The 32-year-old owns a 3.14 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 72/17 K/BB ratio over 66 innings this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Lynn holds Brewers to one run in no-decision
Lance Lynn held the Brewers to just one run over seven innings but settled for a no-decision Tuesday.

Advice: Lynn gave up just five hits and a walk on the evening, with Gerardo Parra's solo home run in the fourth inning serving as the Brewers' only run against him. He exited in line for his 16th win before a Trevor Rosenthal blown save left him without a hand in the decision. Still, it was another terrific outing from the 27-year-old. Lynn owns a 15-9 record and 2.68 ERA heading into Sunday's contest against the Reds. Rotoworld.com

  • Peavy holds the Snakes to 1 run in 7+ frames
Jake Peavy worked 7 2/3 innings and allowed only one run in Tuesday's victory over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Peavy, who struck out four and walked one, is on fire right now. His Giants tenure didn't start out the best, you may recall. He went 0-3 with a 4.82 ERA and received only six runs of support total in his first three starts with San Francisco, but the right-hander came into play today 5-1 with a 1.12 ERA over his last six starts, getting an average of 6.92 runs per game of support. He only got two runs tonight, but that turned out to be the perfect number. Peavy, who has a 2.16 ERA overall with the Giants, has a big road start on deck against the Dodgers. Rotoworld.com

  • Dickerson has homer, four RBI to rout Dodgers
Corey Dickerson went 2-for-4 with a triple, home run and four RBI in the Rockies' 10-4 rout of the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Advice: In the fourth inning, Dickerson connected for a two-run shot, his 23rd home run of the season, off Dodgers starter Dan Haren. He added a two-run triple in the eighth inning, his fifth triple of the season. The 25-year-old has emerged as an offensive star this season, batting .307/.360/.566 with 73 RBI and 70 runs scored overall. Rotoworld.com

  • Stubbs scores three times in win over Dodgers
Drew Stubbs had a hit, two walks and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Stubbs scored on a fourth inning home run by Corey Dickerson, also crossing the plate in the sixth and eighth innings. The 29-year-old has 63 runs scored this year to go with a .288/.338/.481 line. Rotoworld.com

  • Hanley (elbow) not expected to play Wednesday
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly indicated after Tuesday's game that Hanley Ramirez (elbow) was unlikely to play Wednesday.

Advice: It's no surprise given that it's a day game after a night game. Ramirez was able to pinch-hit Tuesday (striking out), suggesting that his elbow is not at issue at the plate but in the field. Rotoworld.com

  • Hanley Ramirez (elbow) scratched from lineup
Hanley Ramirez was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to a right elbow strain.

Advice: It's not clear how the ailment popped up or how long he might be sidelined, but the Dodgers should provide more on his status later Tuesday. Justin Turner took Ramirez's spot at shortstop. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols (hamstring) in Angels' lineup Tuesday
Albert Pujols (hamstring) is in the Angels' starting lineup on Tuesday versus the Mariners.

Advice: Pujols left Monday's game after feeling a cramp in his left hamstring following a three-run double in the bottom of the third inning. He got treatment on Monday night and again on Tuesday afternoon. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols leaves game with hamstring cramp
Albert Pujols left Monday's game against the Mariners with a left hamstring cramp.

Advice: Pujols cleared the bases with a double in the third inning but grabbed his hamstring on the way into second base. The good news is that the Angels are calling it a cramp, so it sounds like a day-to-day situation. Rotoworld.com

  • Dustin Ackley back in Mariners' lineup
Dustin Ackley is back in the Mariners' lineup Monday.

Advice: Ackley sat out the last two contests after his left ankle issue flared up, but he doesn't expect it to keep him out of action any more this season. It's possible that he'll require surgery over the offseason. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 3:50 pm
  • Cervelli (migraines) close to returning
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Saturday that Francisco Cervelli (migraine headaches) is "getting closer" to returning to action.

Advice: Cervelli hasn't played since September 2 due to migraine headaches but has been catching in the bullpen. It's been an injury-shortened season for the 28-year-old, as Cervelli missed nearly two months earlier this year with a Grade 2 right hamstring strain. Rotoworld.com

  • Dustin Ackley (ankle) resting again Saturday
Dustin Ackley (ankle) is not in the Mariners' starting lineup Saturday against the Athletics.

Advice: Ackley played Friday but was out for a week prior due to bone spurs in his left ankle. He felt soreness again after his return. Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon noted that he will be evaluated day-by-day. Rotoworld.com

  • Dustin Ackley returns to Mariners' lineup
Dustin Ackley is back in the Mariners' lineup Friday.

Advice: Ackley missed the last week of action due to bone spurs in his left ankle. It's possible that he'll require surgery over the offseason, but for now he'll try to gut it out through the final few weeks. He's batting .251/.300/.399 with 11 homers and 60 RBI for the Mariners this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Francisco earns 41st save in win vs. Marlins
Francisco Rodriguez worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning, earning his 41st save of the season as the Brewers emerged victorious over the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: Rodriguez has struggled recently, but he had no problems cutting through the bottom of the Marlins' order on Thursday, fanning pinch-hitter John Baker to end the contest. K-Rod is 41-for-46 in save opportunities with a 3.23 ERA and a 71/15 K/BB ratio in 64 innings this season. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 9:14 pm
  • Rasmus makes another spot start for Halos
Cory Rasmus made another spot start for the Angels and took a no-decision, allowing one run over 3 1/3 innings against the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Rasmus has been used exclusively as a reliever since A-ball, so he doesn't have the endurance of a typical spot starter. As such, he's lasted a total of eight innings in three starts for the Angels since August 30. Against the Rangers, he yielded only two hits while striking out three and issuing zero walks. He'll bring a 2.80 ERA and a 47/15 K/BB ratio into Tuesday's home start against the Mariners. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols suffers first 4-K game but Angels win
Albert Pujols struck out four times in five trips to the plate in Thursday's win against the Rangers.

Advice: It took 2,102 games and 9,187 plate appearances, but Pujols finally dons the golden sombrero. He had previously struck out three times in a game 13 times in his 14-year career. Despite Thursday's showing, Pujols has had a productive year at the plate, slashing .276/.329/.473 with 26 home runs and 92 RBI. Rotoworld.com

  • Burnett shaky in 6th, results in 16th loss
A.J. Burnett fell to 8-16 after yielding four runs over six innings as the Phillies were defeated by the Pirates on Thursday.

Advice: Burnett becomes the first Phillies pitcher to lose 16 games since Mark Leiter lost 17 in 1997. He was fine until he tired in the sixth inning, relenting three runs. Overall, Burnett gave up six hits and three walks while fanning seven. It's been a forgettable year for the 37-year-old, as he now owns a 4.34 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 176/83 K/BB ratio. Burnett will take on the Padres in San Diego on Tuesday next. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 7:48 pm
  • Jake Peavy strikes out eight in victory
Jake Peavy struck out eight while limiting the Diamondbacks to one run in 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's win.

Advice: Aside from losing his bat and having it hit third baseman Jake Lamb in his fourth-inning plate appearance, Peavy was pretty sharp today. He is 5-1 with a 1.12 ERA in his last six starts, and he's dragged his season ERA below 4.00. He'll face Arizona again in his next start. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 4:23 pm
  • Scott Kazmir takes loss in 1-0 game
Scott Kazmir took a tough loss in a 1-0 game Thursday, holding the White Sox to four hits over eight innings in a complete game.

Advice: It was Kazmir's second complete game of this season and just the third of his career. He had been in the midst of a tough stretch, giving up 16 runs over 10 2/3 innings in his previous three starts, but you never would have known it from his performance today. He'll get the struggling Rangers next time out. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 2:04 pm
  • Lance Lynn goes distance in 1-0 loss
Lance Lynn took a complete-game loss after giving up one run and three hits in eight innings Thursday against the Reds.

Advice: That's a tough way for a pitcher to lose his first game in six weeks. For the year, Lynn is 15-9, with the Cardinals having scored a total of nine runs in his losses. Lynn has now allowed three runs or fewer in 13 straight starts. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 12:13 pm
  • Albert Pujols gets first triple since 2010
Albert Pujols went 3-for-6 with his first triple of the year and a double Wednesday versus the Rangers.

Advice: It was actually his first triple as an Angel; he hadn't had one since 2010 in his next-to-last year with the Cardinals. Pujols has given the Angels three three-hit games in his last five starts, delivering two homers and eight RBI during the span. He's up to .278 with 26 homers and 92 RBI for the year. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:57 pm
  • Francisco Rodriguez notches 40th save
Francisco Rodriguez bounced back from Tuesday's meltdown to pitch a scoreless ninth and pick up his 40th save on Wednesday.

Advice: Rodriguez becomes just the third pitcher ever with five 40-save seasons. Of course, the other two, Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera, both have nine apiece. Still, it's a pretty impressive feat, and at age 32, K-Rod might have one or two more such campaigns left in him. Rotoworld.com

  • M's hoping Ackley (ankle) could return Friday
The Mariners are hopeful Dustin Ackley (ankle) could be available by Friday.

Advice: Ackley has been dealing with bone spurs in his left ankle that have kept him out of the lineup since Saturday. Even if he's unavailable Friday, it seems as though Ackley will be back contributing in some fashion shortly thereafter. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 3:43 pm
  • K-Rod implodes, takes fifth loss vs. Marlins
Francisco Rodriguez suffered a major meltdown Tuesday, serving up two home runs and allowing three runs in a loss to the Marlins.

Advice: K-Rod was tasked with keeping it a tie game in the ninth inning, and he got two outs before walking Giancarlo Stanton. Casey McGehee followed with a two-run home run, and the next batter, Marcell Ozuna, went yard as well. Rodriguez has now surrendered 14 home runs in 62 innings this year, the most homers he's allowed in a single season. He's also allowed runs in four of his last six outings. The Brewers are fading fast in the National League playoff race, and with K-Rod being a free agent after the season it's worth monitoring how manager Ron Roenicke handles the ninth inning over the final three weeks. • Ackley (ankle) a few days away from return
Dustin Ackley remains a few days away from a return after an MRI showed bone spurs in his left ankle.

Advice: Ackley had surgery back in October of 2012 to remove a bone spur from the same ankle. It's not clear at this point whether he might eventually require another operation, but expect him for now to play through the issue after a few more days of rest. Rotoworld.com

  • Ramirez has 4 hits in victory over San Diego
Hanley Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in a 9-4 victory over the Padres on Monday.

Advice: He was also caught stealing. Ramirez's RBI single in the first inning kicked off the game's scoring. By the time he touched home plate on Matt Kemp's double in the fifth, the Dodgers led 5-1 en route to a blowout victory. Ramirez came into this game having gone hitless in eight of 12 games since returning from a 15-day stint on the disabled list with a strained oblique. Rotoworld.com

  • Dustin Ackley undergoing MRI on ankle
Dustin Ackley (ankle) will undergo an MRI Monday.

Advice: Ackley will miss his second straight games Monday with a left ankle injury, but he doesn't think he'll miss much, if any more, time. The outfielder is hitting .291/.328/.497 since the All-Star break. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 3:53 pm
  • Ackley (ankle) out again Monday
Dustin Ackley is out of the Mariners' lineup again Monday against the Astros.

Advice: Ackley exited Saturday's game with a left ankle injury and will now miss his second straight start. Endy Chavez will play left field while Michael Saunders (intercostal, viral infection) has been activated from the disabled list and will start in right. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols goes 3-for-5 with HR in rout of Tribe
Albert Pujols finished 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in Monday's 12-3 rout of the Indians.

Advice: Pujols was retired in his first two at-bats of the afternoon makeup game, but he singled and scored in the Angels' six-run fifth inning and then did the same in the Angels' two-run seventh inning before launching a three-run bomb in the top of the ninth. Pujols had a huge weekend in Minnesota, collecting his 2,500th career hit and 1,500th career run, and he looks poised to keep the fun going for a while. The veteran slugger boasts has 26 homers and 91 RBI in 141 games this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Cory Rasmus to make another start Thursday
Cory Rasmus will make another start for the Angels on Thursday night against the Rangers.

Advice: Rasmus was excellent in his first spot start last Saturday, striking out six batters over three scoreless innings against the A's. But he struggled in a similar role this weekend against the Twins and will be a poor fantasy bet versus the Rangers. The Angels are essentially using Rasmus as their fifth starter. Rotoworld.com

  • Ramirez walks twice, scores two runs vs. ARI
Hanley Ramirez walked twice and scored two runs in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Ramirez also stole his 13th base of the season in the win. Both runs were scored on Adrian Gonzalez home runs, giving him 55 runs scored on the season. The shortstop is hitting .263/.352/.434 overall. Rotoworld.com

  • Pujols has RBI double, two runs scored Sunday
Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Twins.

Advice: Pujols enjoyed the four-game series with the Twins, going 7-for-18 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and five runs scored. The good weekend has his line up to .275/.331/.469 with 88 RBI and 79 runs scored. Rotoworld.com

  • Dustin Ackley (ankle) hopes to play Monday
Dustin Ackley (ankle) is hoping to return to the lineup Monday.

  • Dustin Ackley leaves game with jammed ankle
