It's possible Arrieta could make a spot start next week for Freddy Garca or Miguel Gonzalez. The 27-year-old has a 6.63 ERA over 12 innings (four starts) at the major league level this season.

    • Carlos Zambrano allowed one (unearned) run over four innings Thursday at extended spring training.
      Advice: Zambrano was also good in his first extended spring training start last week, striking out five batters over two scoreless innings. He yielded four hits and a walk on Thursday while fanning four. The right-hander could be an option for the Phils sooner than expected.

      Advice: The Phillies' current plan calls for Zambrano to pitch in another extended spring game next week before possibly sending him to a minor league affiliate. He was able to throw 44 pitches Saturday and will continue to be stretched out as a starter. Zambrano will be an option for the Phillies' rotation at some point this season.
