    Cole Ragans didn’t factor into the decision despite allowing just two runs in seven innings with eight strikeouts against the Rockies on Friday.

    Advice: Ragans did walk three and gave up five hits, but for the most part, it was a very strong outing and a nice bounce back from his struggles against the Guardians (4 2/3 innings, five runs). The left-hander has shown that 2023 was no fluke with a 3.28 ERA and 134/37 K/BB over his 19 starts and 109 2/3 innings of work.   • Strikes out 10 in loss
    Gausman (6-8) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 10 over six innings to take the loss Friday versus the Mariners.

    Advice: Gausman allowed a two-run double to Luke Raley in the third inning, and that was enough to stick him with his fourth loss in five outings. This was his third 10-strikeout game of the year, as well as his third quality start over his last seven games.     Kevin Gausman struck out 10 over six innings of two-run baseball, but took a look Friday to the Mariners.

    Advice: Gausman had the swing-and-miss stuff going and took advantage of a lineup that strikes out more than anyone in baseball. The right-hander allowed only a two-run double to Luke Raley in the contest, but unfortunately that was enough to pick up the loss with Luis Castillo holdin the Blue Jays to just one run. It’s still nice to see a strong outing from Gausman considering how mediocre he’s been for the majority of 2024, as his ERA is still a disappointing 4.64 on the campaign.     Ragans did not factor into the decision in Friday's 4-2 loss versus Colorado, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out eight.

    Advice: The Kansas City ace generated 21 whiffs en route to fanning eight, earning his 13th quality start in 18 appearances. Ragans has rounded into a Cy Young contender with his last 10 outings, firing a 2.52 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 77:21 K:BB across 60.2 innings. Overall, he sports a 3.28 ERA with a 134:37 K:BB across 109.2 innings on the year. The 26-year-old currently lines up to face the Red Sox on the road next weekend for his next outing.     Advice: Campusano has been on the injured list since June 22 due to a left thumb injury and has played in four rehab games with Single-A Lake Elsinore, going 2-for-15 with a homer and four RBI. The 25-year-old backstop said he will resume catching for the Padres on Sunday, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune, at which point he could take over for Kyle Higashioka as the Friars' primary backstop.   • Lacking clear return timeline
    Buehler has resumed throwing and appears to be fully recovered from the right hip inflammation that resulted in his placement on the 15-day injured list June 19, but manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that the right-hander is without a clear timeline for a return, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

    Advice: Buehler hasn't been with the Dodgers this week following the team's return from its road trip, as Roberts noted that the right-hander is conducting his throwing program "offsite." More specifically, Ardaya relays that Buehler has been throwing both at the Dodgers' spring facility in Arizona and at a private facility in Florida. While the fact that Buehler isn't being shut down from activity can be taken as a positive sign, he's seemingly unlikely to return from the IL until after the All-Star break. The Dodgers may be keen on giving Buehler an extended break since he had struggled to bounce back from the second Tommy John surgery of his career before landing on the shelf.
