David Ross (concussion) is hopeful to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Double-A Portland.
Advice: Ross hasn't played since May 11 due to concussion-related symptoms. However, he has increased activity in recent days and could rejoin the Red Sox this weekend if all goes well.

Advice: Ross has been out of commission for a little over a week with concussion-related symptoms, but he's feeling much better of late. The Red Sox will still take things slowly with him, but he's moving in the right direction.

Logan Morrison (knee) went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles Monday in his first rehab game with High-A Jupiter.
Advice: Morrison, who is coming back from knee surgery, served as the designated hitter. The 25-year-old is permitted to spend 20 days on his rehab assignment and will likely need most of it to shake the rust and get comfortable. However, assuming all goes well, he should join the Marlins' lineup in early June.

Mike Adams (back) threw a bullpen session Wednesday.
Advice: Adams landed on the disabled list earlier this week with a back strain, but reported feeling good and will throw again on Friday. The veteran right-hander thinks he could be ready to return Sunday, but the Phillies may give him some more time.

Phillies placed RHP Mike Adams on the 15-day disabled list with a right back strain.
Advice: Adams has been battling the injury for close to two weeks and the Phillies finally decided to shut him down for a bit. He's allowed to return before the end of May.

Ike Davis went 0-for-2 with two walks on Wednesday and had a couple of key miscues in the field in the Mets' loss to the Reds on Wednesday.
Advice: Neither play went as an error, but they both could be considered mental errors. In the seventh, Davis stayed back on a grounder rather than charge it, allowing the runner to score from third and giving the Reds a 4-2 lead. In the ninth, with the score tied 4-4, Davis elected to let a grounder go down the line, figuring it would curl foul. It didn't, giving Brandon Phillips an RBI double. In Davis' defense, the ball really did seem likely to go foul and the Reds almost certainly would have scored the go-ahead run had he handled it. In truth, Davis' decision looked much worse than it was, but since it turned out so badly, it's more fuel for those who want him demoted.

Ike Davis was removed in a double-switch after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Monday against the Reds.
Advice: Worse, he made a boneheaded play in the first, getting called for interference and giving two baserunners extra bases. The Mets have been extremely patient with Davis, but one wonders just how much longer that can last.

Adam Eaton is dealing with renewed soreness in his left elbow and has returned to Phoenix for an examination.
Advice: Bad news. Eaton, who was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in March, began playing in rehab games earlier this month and felt well enough to return to center field last week. However, the pain has returned. The worst-case scenario would be season-ending Tommy John surgery, but it's not clear if that's a consideration yet. But it's obviously a concern.

Matt Dominguez is out of the Astros' lineup on Wednesday night because of left quad tightness.
Advice: The Astros have a scheduled team off day on Thursday, so giving Dominguez the night off Wednesday affords him two full days of rest. The 23-year-old third baseman is batting just .245/.275/.371 in 43 games this season but he's one of the best defensive infielders in MLB.

Derek Lowe has cleared waivers.
Advice: Lowe will now either accept an assignment to Triple-A Round Rock or opt to become a free agent. The 39-year-old righty posted a 9.00 ERA in 13 innings with Texas.

Salvador Perez (hip) is not in the Royals' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Astros.
Advice: Perez also sat out Tuesday after bruising his right hip Monday while sliding into a dugout post at Minute Maid Park. The Royals are hoping that he will be able to play in Thursday's series opener against the Angels.

Advice: Perez suffered the injury Monday when he ran into a railing near the Astros' dugout while trying to track down a foul ball. He is not in the Royals' starting lineup on Tuesday night but should be fine in a few days.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said on WEEI in Boston that Shane Victorino (hamstring) is out of the lineup again Wednesday.
Advice: Victorino hasn't played since he left Monday's game with left hamstring tightness, but Farrell said he is "moving in the right direction." Consider him day-to-day.
