    • Logan Gilbert solid in loss to Athletics
      Logan Gilbert allowed two runs -- one earned -- with five strikeouts over seven innings in a loss against the Athletics on Wednesday.

      Advice: Gilbert had retired the first seven batters he faced before Zack Gelof took him deep for a solo homer in the third inning. A wild pitch and a passed ball error would bring a second run in to score for the A’s in the fifth. Gilbert would toss two more scoreless frames, but was saddled with the loss as the Mariners failed to get a run in. The 27-year-old right-hander will take a 3.12 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, and a 76/20 K/BB ratio across 83 2/3 innings into a start against the White Sox in Seattle on Monday.     • JosĂ© BerrĂ­os delivers quality start versus Orioles
      José Berríos allowed two runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision versus the Orioles.

      Advice: Berríos delivered a sixth straight quality start, though he has only one win during the span. Tonight’s outing did nothing at all for his FIP, which has lagged way behind his ERA all year, but he continued to defy his peripherals in finishing the game with two strikeouts, three walks and a homer allowed (a solo shot to Anthony Santander).     • Cleared to start Saturday
      Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Wednesday that Suarez (thumb) has been cleared to start Saturday's game against the Mets in London, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "I think so," Thomson said ,when asked if Suarez would make his next scheduled start. "It looks like it. I believe we can line him up."

      Advice: Suarez didn't throw a bullpen session Wednesday like Thomson intimated would be the case Tuesday, but the southpaw played catch for the second day in a row and appears to be feeling fine. He'll throw a light bullpen session Friday, but the Phillies are seemingly already banking on Suarez being available without restriction for the first of two games in London, with Taijuan Walker set to take the hill for the Sunday contest. Suarez was removed from his most recent start this past Saturday against the Cardinals after taking a comebacker to his left thumb.     • Zach Eflin goes four innings in return from IL
      Zach Eflin pitched well in his return from the injured list on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits over four frames in a no-decision against the Marlins.

      Advice: Eflin struck out three batters on the evening and didn’t allow a base on balls. The Marlins scored a pair of two-out runs against him in the opening inning on an RBI double by Jesus Sanchez and an RBI single by Otto Lopez. He settled in nicely afterwards though and blanked the Fish over his final three innings. The 30-year-old hurler got five whiffs on 55 pitches in the contest, posting a CSW of only 18 percent.       Suarez (hand) is in line to start Saturday versus the Mets in London after playing catch again Wednesday, Paul Casella of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Suarez had been slated to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, but he instead played catch for the second straight day. The change of plans doesn't appear to have resulted in him being pushed back in the Phillies' pitching schedule, as the southpaw remains on track to make his next start this weekend.       The Rays reinstated Eflin (back) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Marlins in Miami.

      Advice: Tampa Bay optioned right-hander Justin Sterner to Triple-A Durham to clear the way for Eflin's return to the 26-man active roster. Eflin missed just over the minimum 15 days while recovering from lower-back inflammation, and the Rays signed off on him returning from the IL without a rehab assignment after he completed a 40-pitch, two-inning simulated bullpen session Sunday. According to MLB.com, manager Kevin Cash suggested that Eflin could face some limitations with his workload Wednesday, but the Rays will wait and see how the right-hander fares as the game unfolds before making any decisions on whether to cut his start short.       Advice: Sandoval put together his second straight quality start but once again was left with nothing to show for it in the win column, as the Angels didn't take a lead until the bottom of the seventh. The lefty struck out the side in the second and retired nine straight at one point before Jurickson Profar banged out a base hit off him with two outs in the sixth. Sandoval has now recorded seven strikeouts in consecutive outings, something he only did three times over his first 11 starts of the year.
