• Strong start spoiled
Gilbert tossed seven scoreless innings Sunday against the Angels, allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out nine. He did not factor into the decision.

Advice: Gilbert was magnificent once again and had another strong start wasted by the bullpen. Gilbert exited with a 2-0 lead that vanished in the eighth inning after two walks and a three-run homer by Jo Adell put the Angels in front for good. Sunday was the fifth time this season that Gilbert did not allow a run in a start and his nine strikeouts tied a season high. The 27-year-old will head into the break with a 2.79 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 124:25 K:BB in 132.1 innings. Since he pitched Sunday, Gilbert will not be available to throw in Tuesday's All-Star Game. • Launches grand slam
Gelof went 1-for-5 with a grand slam Sunday against the Phillies.

Advice: Gelof's ninth-inning grand slam was the eighth and final long ball of the day for Oakland and put a rubber stamp on an 18-run outburst for the A's. It was the second consecutive game with a homer for Gelof, who has now hit seven over the past 23 games and is up to 12 on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:25 pm
  • Goes yard thrice
Toglia went 3-for-4 with three solo home runs during Sunday's 8-5 win over the Mets.

Advice: Toglia notched his first career multi-homer game Sunday, launching a solo homer in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. The 25-year-old is batting .197 with 16 home runs across 50 games this season, but he's been significantly better since becoming a near-everyday player for Colorado at the start of June. In 36 games since then, he's batting .230 with 26 RBI, 20 runs and 12 homers. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:24 pm

  • Takes loss Sunday
Duran (5-4) allowed an unearned run on one hit without retiring a batter to take the loss Sunday versus the Giants.

Advice: Duran gave up a triple to Mike Yastrzemski to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, and it turned into a run after Brooks Lee's relay throw ended up in the dugout. It's a tough way for Duran to take a loss, which also ended his 7.2-inning scoreless streak, but it won't hurt his ERA, which remains at 2.93 to go with a 0.98 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB through 30.2 innings. Since Duran was pitching in a tied game before giving up the run, he also will avoid taking his second blown save of the year, and his status as the Twins' primary closer is not in question. • Earns 10th win
Bello (10-5) picked up the win Sunday, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk over 6.1 innings against the Royals. He struck out three.

Advice: Bello's day started by allowing a leadoff homer to Adam Frazier, but he was quickly staked to a 4-1 lead and scattered only two additional runs the rest of the way while working into the seventh inning for the second time in three starts and just the third time this season. Bello has alternated good and bad outings recently, with Sunday representing his third quality start in his last six while he has allowed 16 earned runs in the other three appearances while failing to complete five innings twice. Bello places 10th in the majors with 10 wins; however, an ERA of 5.32 with a 1.47 WHIP and 85 strikeouts over 89.2 innings represent disappointing figures for the talented 25-year-old righty. • Logan Gilbert goes seven scoreless in no-decision
Logan Gilbert shut out the Angels for seven innings, striking out nine, in a no-decision Sunday.

Advice: Gilbert allowed just two hits before leaving with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it disappeared immediately in the eighth, as Ryne Stanek hurt himself on a leadoff walk and Austin Voth went on to give up a three-run homer to take a loss. It’s the fifth time this season that Gilbert has gone without allowing a run. He’s a worthy All-Star as he finishes the first half with a 2.79 ERA, but he won’t get to pitch in the game after working today. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:49 pm

  • Memorable three-homer game Sunday
Butler went 3-for-6 with a trio of two-run home runs in an 18-3 win over the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: The rookie had the most memorable hitting performance in an afternoon full of them for the Athletics, who slugged a whopping eight home runs in the rout. Butler left the yard in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings, capping off his trio of round trippers with a massive 449-foot shot that landed in the second deck in right-center field. It is the first time Butler has homered three times in a game at any level of professional baseball, and his long-ball total on the afternoon represented exactly half his season tally across 187 plate appearances coming into the day. Butler heads into an inopportunely timed All-Star break with his power stroke in prolific form, as he's left the yard on five occasions in the last six games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:35 pm

  • Camilo Doval gives up two runs, takes blown save
Camilo Doval gave up two runs while getting just one out in the ninth to take his fourth blown save Sunday against the Twins.

Advice: Doval has been shaky throughout, though he did come into this one having allowed just one run in his previous nine innings. Today, he faced four batters and retired only one of them, allowing one walk and then a pair of doubles. The rough showing leaves him 17-for-21 in save opportunities and with a 4.38 ERA. His closer’s role has to be in some jeopardy, given that the Giants have plenty of solid alternatives. He certainly can’t afford to blow another save chance right away after the break. • Jhoan Duran takes loss on error in ninth
Jhoan Duran took a loss after giving up a triple to the only batter he faced Sunday against the ninth.

Advice: Opening the bottom of the ninth in a tie game, Duran gave up a well-placed 88.8 mph flyball to the right-center gap. Mike Yastrzemski tried stretching the hit into a triple, and relay man Brooks Lee threw the ball into the dugout to end the game. The run was unearned, of course. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:21 pm
