    • Spins five shutout innings
Winckowski (2-1) picked up the win Sunday vs the Padres. He did not allow a run in five innings, gave up four hits and struck out one.

Advice: Winckowski was efficient in his spot start, as he only needed 58 pitches to get through five innings. It was Winckowski's fourth start of the season and his first since early May. It will be interesting to see if Winckowski keeps a spot in the rotation as he continues to impress in whichever role. The 26-year-old pitched six innings in relief in his last appearance and now backs it up with another quality showing. He's lowered his ERA to 2.80 and is scheduled to face the Yankees next. • Getting another start Wednesday
Daniel is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Athletics in Oakland, Doug Padilla of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: The Halos will get some reinforcement to their rotation with Jose Soriano (abdomen) on track to come off the 15-day injured list Tuesday to start the series opener in Oakland, but Daniel did enough in his first MLB start last Thursday versus Detroit to earn another turn. After getting called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to aid a rotation that had been hit hard by injuries of late, Daniel proceeded to deliver eight shutout innings while striking out eight and giving up only four hits and no walks. The matchup with a weak Athletics offense at a pitcher-friendly venue in Oakland offers an ideal setup for Daniel to come through with another quality start. Rotowire.com Today, 1:23 pm
    • In midst of rehab assignment
Castro (shoulder) made his second rehab appearance in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Saturday, striking out four and allowing one hit and no walks over two scoreless innings.

Advice: Castro was placed on the Diamondbacks' 15-day injured list April 23 with right shoulder inflammation but looks be closing in on a return after turning in a pair of scoreless appearances in the ACL. According to MLB.com, manager Torey Lovullo previously said that the Diamondbacks are targeting this upcoming Wednesday for Castro's return from the IL, but that date could be pushed back if the organization first wants him to get in some work with a higher-level affiliate. • Rangers send down Brock Burke
Rangers optioned LHP Brock Burke to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: The move is hardly a stunner, but it’s still kind of remarkable; it’s the first time since Burke debuted on Aug. 20, 2019 that he’s been optioned to the minors. Burke missed two months this season with a self-inflicted break of his non-pitching hand. He pitched well in his first two appearances after returning earlier this month, but he walked three of five batters on Tuesday and gave up two runs in an inning Thursday, leaving him with a 7.56 ERA in nine appearances overall. • Shipped to Toronto
The Blue Jays acquired Rodriguez from the Rangers on Sunday for minor-league pitcher Josh Mollerus, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez was designated for assignment by Texas on Wednesday, and Toronto elected to acquire him via trade rather than risk a waiver claim. The 26-year-old will head to Triple-A Buffalo and serve as organizational bullpen depth. Rotowire.com Today, 1:07 pm

    • Officially shut down for season
Triple-A Toledo placed Lange (lat) on its full-season injured list Friday.

Advice: The transaction confirms that the surgery Lange underwent this past week to address a right lat avulsion was indeed season-ending. Though the right-handed reliever is currently on the minor-league IL, the Tigers could recall him and place him on the major-league 60-day IL if the team needs to open up a spot on the 40-man roster at any point. Per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, Lange is optimistic that he'll be back to full health for the start of spring training in 2025. Rotowire.com Today, 12:41 pm

    • Earns third save
Chapman gave up a run on two hits in the ninth inning but still managed to pick up his third save Sunday against Atlanta.

Advice: Chapman came in with a three-run lead in the ninth and worked in and out of trouble to grab his second save in his last four appearances. The veteran has taken over the Pirates ninth-inning role since losing closer David Bednar to injury on June 19th. There is still no timetable for Bednar's return from an oblique injury, so Chapman is likely looking at a few more save opportunities in the meantime. • DFA'd by San Francisco
The Giants designated Howard for assignment Sunday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: The right-hander surrendered six runs over 2.2 innings Saturday against the Dodgers and has now lost his place on the Giants' 26-man active roster and 40-man roster. Howard has struggled to a 5.63 ERA and 21:11 K:BB over 24 frames in the big leagues this season. Rotowire.com Today, 11:50 am
    • Joe Kelly (shoulder) won’t return before break
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Sunday that Joe Kelly (shoulder) won’t be ready to return before the All-Star break.

Advice: Kelly will need a rehab assignment before returning, and the right-hander will not be able to complete that assignment before the break. The 36-year-old has been on the injured list since May 6 because of his shoulder trouble, and he’ll likely pitch in the middle-innings once he’s activated off the 60-day IL. Rotoworld Today, 11:29 am
