    Estevez threw a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over Detroit on Friday.

    Advice: Estevez needed only nine pitches to sit down the heart of the Tigers' lineup in order. He's up to 16 saves on the year and has converted 10 straight chances. Since blowing his last save May 10, Estevez has given up just one earned run over 14.1 innings. He's lowered his season ERA to 3.12 with an impressive 27:3 K:BB through 26 appearances.   • No-decision against former club
    Stroman came away with a no-decision in Friday's 16-5 rout of the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

    Advice: The veteran right-hander made his big-league debut with the Jays in 2014 and had trouble keeping his composure in his return to Toronto, getting the hook after 88 pitches (52 strikes) and not sticking around long enough to benefit from a season-best offensive explosion by the Yankees. Stroman completed six innings only once in five June starts, but on the year he still sports a 3.29 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 70:43 K:BB through 95.2 innings.     Carlos Estévez didn’t give up a hit while qualifying for a save against the Tigers on Friday.

    Advice: Estévez didn’t give up a hit, didn’t strike anyone out and didn’t issue a walk. He didn’t really have a chance to do any of those things as the Tigers made him throw only nine pitches; eight of those landing for strikes.   • Fans eight in win
    Rea (7-2) yielded two runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Cubs.

    Advice: Rea looked strong aside from a speed bump in the fourth inning. He gave up a solo shot to Seiya Suzuki before Dansby Swanson drove in another run. Rea set new season highs with eight strikeouts and 15 whiffs, including six via the sinker. He hasn't lost a start since May 19; in seven outings since then, he's 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA.   • Colin Rea strikes out season-best eight in win
    Colin Rea allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in a victory against the Cubs on Friday.

    Advice: Rea’s eight strikeouts topped his previous season high by six. For the year, he’s sporting a 16.8% strikeout rate, down from 21.3% last year.   • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with two hits, home run
    Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI against the Yankees on Friday.

    Advice: Guerrero has played well of late despite trade rumors about him swirling. The homer was his seventh of June when he had just five all season entering the month.   • Marcus Stroman yanked in fifth inning
    Marcus Stroman allowed three earned runs across 4 1/3 innings on Friday against the Blue Jays. He struck out three, walked three in a no-decision.

    Advice: Stroman labored through two very long innings against the Blue Jays. He could not put them away despite not allowing much hard contact and many long-at bats drove his pitch count up. Stroman’s strikeouts have sunk this year while he’s allowing more walks showing diminished velocity overall. His 3.29 ERA may be a bit of a mirage. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:37 pm
     
  • Ronel Blanco can’t overcome red-hot Mets
    Ronel Blano was pulled after 5 2/3 innings after allowing six runs, three earned, on Friday against the Mets. He struck out five and walked three in a loss.

    Advice: Blanco pitched fine Friday. His three unearned runs came as a result of an Alex Bregman two-out error that allowed Jeff McNeil to sneak a ball just over the right field fence in the next at-bat. That was the Mets’ third home run of the game as Tyrone Taylor and Pete Alonso also left the yard. He still missed plenty of bats with 12 whiffs on the day and would have earned his fourth straight quality start if Bregman had fielded that ground ball cleanly. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:21 pm
     
  • Takes tough loss
    Lively (7-4) took the loss against the Royals on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out five.

    Advice: Lively was sharp for most of the contest and didn't allow a runner to reach second base until the fifth inning, when Nick Loftin walked and then advanced on a steal. Unfortunately for Lively, his luck would run out in the following frame after he surrendered back-to-back triples, eventually leading to two runs coming home for Kansas City. The outing marked Lively's first quality start this month, but he's allowed two or fewer runs in six of his last seven outings.
