  • Colin Rea strikes out season-best eight in win
    Colin Rea allowed two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in a victory against the Cubs on Friday.

    Advice: Rea’s eight strikeouts topped his previous season high by six. For the year, he’s sporting a 16.8% strikeout rate, down from 21.3% last year. However, a .253 BABIP has left him with a 3.61 ERA. His SIERA is about one run higher, while his xERA tops his current ERA by about a run and a half. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:08 pm
     
  • Marcus Stroman yanked in fifth inning
    Marcus Stroman allowed three earned runs across 4 1/3 innings on Friday against the Blue Jays. He struck out three, walked three in a no-decision.

    Advice: Stroman labored through two very long innings against the Blue Jays. He could not put them away despite not allowing much hard contact and many long-at bats drove his pitch count up. Stroman’s strikeouts have sunk this year while he’s allowing more walks showing diminished velocity overall. His 3.29 ERA may be a bit of a mirage. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:37 pm
     
  • Ronel Blanco can’t overcome red-hot Mets
    Ronel Blano was pulled after 5 2/3 innings after allowing six runs, three earned, on Friday against the Mets. He struck out five and walked three in a loss.

    Advice: Blanco pitched fine Friday. His three unearned runs came as a result of an Alex Bregman two-out error that allowed Jeff McNeil to sneak a ball just over the right field fence in the next at-bat. That was the Mets’ third home run of the game as Tyrone Taylor and Pete Alonso also left the yard. He still missed plenty of bats with 12 whiffs on the day and would have earned his fourth straight quality start if Bregman had fielded that ground ball cleanly. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:21 pm
     
  • Takes tough loss
    Lively (7-4) took the loss against the Royals on Thursday, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out five.

    Advice: Lively was sharp for most of the contest and didn't allow a runner to reach second base until the fifth inning, when Nick Loftin walked and then advanced on a steal. Unfortunately for Lively, his luck would run out in the following frame after he surrendered back-to-back triples, eventually leading to two runs coming home for Kansas City. The outing marked Lively's first quality start this month, but he's allowed two or fewer runs in six of his last seven outings.   • Lively strikes out five in loss to Royals Thursday
    Ben Lively allowed two runs in six innings and took the loss against the Royals on Thursday.

    Advice: Lively gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. He continues to pitch pretty well, but the Guardians only provided one run in support of his effort. Lively has a 3.03 ERA on the season. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the White Sox at home next week.

  • Could return Saturday
    Gallen (hamstring) could be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday against Oakland if he recovers well from Thursday's bullpen session, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

    Advice: Thursday's bullpen session will be the second one thrown by Gallen, who also has a couple of simulated games under his belt since he landed on the injured list.     Gallen (hamstring) threw 67 pitches in a simulated game Monday and will next have a bullpen session Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

    Advice: The Diamondbacks were preparing for Gallen to throw Monday, whether in a sim game or live batting practice, and decided on the sim game. He next heads to Chase Field on Thursday for a bullpen session, which will be caught by Gabriel Moreno, who is nursing a sprained left thumb.     Brown (5-5) picked up the win Tuesday against Colorado, allowing two hits and three walks with seven strikeouts across 6.0 scoreless innings.

    Advice: Brown landed his fourth consecutive win Tuesday and generated his seventh straight quality start. He largely stayed out of trouble, with just two runners reaching scoring position and nobody surpassing first base until the fourth inning. After stumbling early in the season, Brown has been utterly dominant in June, owning a 1.16 ERA with a 36:8 K:BB across 31.0 innings.   • Hunter Brown picks up fifth win vs. Rockies
    Hunter Brown allowed two hits over six scoreless innings while striking out seven to earn the win over the Rockies.

    Advice: Brown was allowed to keep things in cruise control after his offense provided him five runs in the bottom of the first. The righty moved his season record to 5-5 on the year and saw his ERA drop to 4.37. Brown has enjoyed a solid June, allowing just four earned runs over 31 innings pitched while posting a 36:8 K:BB ratio.
