      Evan Phillips earned his first victory of the 2024 season on Tuesday despite allowing a solo homer in the ninth inning against the Diamondbacks,

      Advice: Phillips came on to work with the score tied at four runs apiece heading to the ninth inning. He struck out Ketel Marte to start the frame but then served up a go-ahead solo homer to Joc Pederson before retiring the next to hitters. He was then the beneficiary of a vultured win after the Dodgers rallied for two runs in the home half of the ninth. On the season, the 29-year-old closer now boasts a 2.10 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 27/8 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings on the year to go along with 13 saves in 13 chances.       Phillips (1-0) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over one inning but earned the win Tuesday over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Phillips gave up a tie-breaking solo home run to Joc Pederson in the top of the ninth inning, but the Dodgers replied with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. The homer was just the second Phillips has allowed all year, though this was the second outing in a row he's been scored on.       Zach Littell picked up his third victory of the season on Tuesday evening, scattering four hits over five shutout innings against the Royals.

      Advice: Littell punched out four batters on the night and didn’t walk a batter. He needed just 68 pitches (49 strikes) to get through five frames — and he would’ve likely worked deeper into the game had it not been for a lengthy rain delay after the fifth inning. The 28-year-old righty got eight whiffs on the night, registering a strong CSW of 34 percent. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling as he brings a 3.94 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and an 86/16 K/BB ratio (91 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s matchup against the Rangers in Arlington.       Soriano (4-6) allowed four runs on three hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Athletics.

      Advice: Soriano missed the minimum time on the injured list due to an abdominal infection. He cruised through the Athletics' order the first time, but he had less fortune the second time around, as Brent Rooker hit a solo shot and Lawrence Butler added a three-run home run. Soriano threw just 62 pitches (39 strikes) in the outing, so he may still be building up to full strength. For the year, he's at a 3.77 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 64:29 K:BB through 76.1 innings this year.       Mears (1-4) was tagged with the loss and a blown save after he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning Tuesday against the Brewers.

      Advice: Mears didn't give up hard contact as the two hits against him were infield singles, but he was unable to get through the frame on 39 pitches. It's the second blown save of the season for the right-hander, who remains without a save but has seven holds to go along with an ugly 6.28 ERA.       Craig Kimbrel slammed the door on the Mariners on Tuesday night, retiring all three hitters that he faced in the ninth inning to preserve a two-run advantage.

      Advice: It wasn’t the smoothest of innings for Kimbrel, as he plunked Luke Raley to start the frame and also hit Jorge Polanco with one out in the inning, but he rebounded to get Dominic Canzone on a ground out to first and Julio Rodriguez on strikes to end it. Aside from a small blip early in the season, Kimbrel has been exceptional in the ninth inning for the Orioles this season. He bounced back this time, limiting the damage on his line to a Nolan Schanuel sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Spence is still looking for consistency as a starter, but he has been able to complete at least five frames in each of his last seven outings. The lone tally against him came in the fifth inning as Nolan Schanuel plated Brandon Drury with a sacrifice fly. Spence generated nine swings and misses on 94 pitches on the night — four each on his cutter and slider — while posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. Now 5-4 on the season, the 26-year-old hurler will tote a 4.15 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 61/17 K/BB ratio (73 2/3 innings) into Sunday’s battle against the hot-hitting Orioles.
