    • Despite taking a comebacker off his pitching hand, Drew Storen pitched a scoreless 10th inning Friday against the Padres for his first save.
Advice: Aided by a Ryan Zimmerman throwing error, Rafael Soriano took a blown save in the ninth. Storen got his chance in the 10th after a Chad Tracy homer and got the job done, though not before allowing a couple of singles. The first of those was a hard shot up the middle that deflected off his pitching hand. Storen, though, remained in after a couple of warmups. His ERA sits at 4.41 currently, and he's no threat to Soriano's job as is.

    • Drew Storen allowed a run in the eighth inning Sunday, blowing the Nationals' 1-0 lead over the Cubs.
Advice: Chicago went on to win it 2-1 after scoring off Rafael Soriano in the ninth. Storen has posted a disappointing 4.73 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 13 1/3 frames this season.

    • Burch Smith gave up five runs and three homers in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Nationals.
Advice: Smith struck out eight and walked just one, but there was no overcoming the homers. He has a 15.63 ERA after two starts, so his rotation spot is tenuous at best.

    • Jarrod Parker pitched seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.
Advice: The A's didn't go ahead until the bottom of the eighth, so Parker was denied the win after his best performance so far this season. He struck out five and walked two tonight. After opening up 0-4 with an 8.10 ERA, he's 2-1 with a 4.07 ERA his last four times out.

    • Jarrod Parker yielded three runs in 6 1/3 innings Saturday in a victory over the Mariners.
Advice: We were guessing Parker would be optioned out when Brett Anderson returned, but his nice outing tonight, combined with Dan Straily's poor one Friday, will probably keep him in the rotation for now. At 2-5 with a 6.86 ERA, he remains a shaky play in fantasy leagues.

    • The Japanese website Sanspo.com reports that the Hanshin Tigers of Japan's Central League are trying to sign David Aardsma.
Advice: Aardsma requested and was granted his released from the Marlins earlier this week, and it was evidently so that he could sign overseas. The right-hander has appeared in just one game at the big league level over the last two seasons due to Tommy John surgery.

    • Marlins released RHP David Aardsma.
Advice: Per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, his minor league contract with the Marlins allowed Aardsma to opt out if he wasn't in the majors by May 15. The 31-year-old posted a 2.57 ERA and 12/8 K/BB ratio over 14 innings with Triple-A New Orleans. It shouldn't be long before he finds a new home.

    • Rick Porcello was impressive in Friday's victory over the Rangers, allowing only one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Advice: Porcello uncharacteristically punched out six on the evening while allowing only one walk. The only damage against him on the evening was a solo homer off the bat of Geovany Soto in the fifth inning. After a brutal beginning to the season, the 24-year-old right-hander has rebounded nicely, posting four consecutive quality starts. He'll look to extend that streak to five when he takes on the Twins at home on Thursday.

  • Sun, May 12
    • Rick Porcello held the Indians to two runs over six innings Sunday but took a no-decision.
Advice: He gave up just four hits, walked a pair and struck out six. Porcello was in line for his second win of the season, but Jose Valverde coughed up the lead in the ninth and the Tigers lost in extra innings. The right still has an ugly 6.68 ERA for the season but has put together three straight quality starts since last month's disaster in Anaheim. He gets the Rangers on the road next.

    • Mike Adams went for an MRI which revealed a mild mid-back strain.
Advice: Adams hasn't made much progress over the past week, but he's still hoping to avoid a stint on the disabled list. The Phillies could make a move if he can't pitch at some point this weekend.

    • Mike Adams had a setback Tuesday while playing catch and was given a cortisone injection in his back.
Advice: Adams hasn't pitched in a game since last Friday because of lower back discomfort. He's considered day-to-day for now but could need a 15-day disabled list stint if the pain lingers for much longer.

    • Mike Adams is day-to-day with back spasms.
Advice: Adams wasn't available Sunday and will be shut down for a few days with a lower back injury. The Phillies are being conservative with his workload after he had offseason surgery to correct Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Adams is not expected to be placed on the disabled list.

    • Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times hears that prospect right-hander Jake Odorizzi is the most likely option to fill in for David Price (triceps) in the starting rotation.
Advice: Alex Torres, Alex Colome, and Chris Archer are also under consideration for the assignment, but Odorizzi has pitched really well so far in Triple-A and lines up perfectly for Monday against the Blue Jays. The 23-year-old is worth grabbing in AL-only leagues.

    • Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will continue his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo.
Advice: McGowan allowed one hit and one walk over two scoreless innings with High-A Dunedin and notched four strikeouts. The Blue Jays can't count on him given his lengthy injury history, but he could be an option to join the bullpen later this month if all goes well.

    • Dustin McGowan (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A New Hampshire on Tuesday.

    • Dustin McGowan (shoulder) recorded five outs on Saturday in an extended spring training game.
Advice: McGowan faced six batters and allowed just one hit. The right-hander has been on the shelf since the end of spring training with discomfort in his neck and right shoulder. He should join Toronto sometime in late May.

    • Juan Nicasio has had his next start pushed back a day, and will now start against the Giants on Sunday.
Advice: With Tyler Chatwood replacing the injured Jeff Francis in the Rockies' rotation, they're utilizing the opportunity to give Nicasio an extra day of rest. It's not a bad idea, as he's coming off his worst start of the season, where he yielded five runs on eight hits in Monday's loss to the Cubs.

    • Juan Nicasio yielded five runs and eight hits in six innings Monday in a loss to the Cubs.
Advice: It was Nicasio's first loss in eight starts this season, though the Rockies are a mere 4-4 when he pitches. It's partly his inability to pitch deep into games that has caused the Rockies to weigh demoting him to Triple-A. He should be safe for now, but we'll see what happens once Roy Oswalt is ready.

    • Braves placed RHP Jordan Walden on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with right shoulder inflammation.
Advice: It's an injury that we hadn't heard about until now, but perhaps we should have known something was up with Walden allowing five runs over his last three appearances (1 1/3 innings). It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined.

    • Marlins designated RHP Jon Rauch for assignment.
Advice: The veteran right-hander's short tenure with the Marlins comes to a close after just 16 2/3 innings. During that time, he compiled a 7.56 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 15/7 K/BB ratio. Despite the poor start, Rauch should have no problem attracting interest from other teams starved for bullpen depth.

    • Mariners optioned RHP Hector Noesi to Triple-A Tacoma.
Advice: Noesi did a nice job in a spot start Thursday, holding the Yankees to an unearned run over 4 1/3 innings, but the M's need a fresh arm for the pen. The righty should get another shot later this season.

    • Hector Noesi held the Yankees to an unearned run over 4 1/3 innings in his start Thursday.
Advice: Not bad for a guy who had pitched just four times in a month while mopping up for the Mariners. Encouraging is that Noesi still hasn't allowed a homer in 13 2/3 innings this season. He gave up 21 in 106 2/3 innings for Seattle last year. We still wouldn't go rushing out to pick him up in AL-only leagues.

Advice: He'll take the roster spot of Jose Contreras, who was placed on the bereavement list. Hughes has a 4.61 ERA and 13/9 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings with the Pirates this season and will operate in middle relief.

    • Jose Quintana surrendered four runs over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision victory against the Angels.
Advice: He struck out four and walked three. It was the fourth straight shaky outing from Quintana, who has yielded four, three, three and four runs in his last four trips to the bump, respectively. That stretch has inflated his ERA from 2.78 to 3.97. It has good odds of rising again on Tuesday against the Red Sox. Yank him from your mixed-league rotation, if you haven't already done so.
