    • B.J. Upton is not in the starting lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.
Advice: Jordan Schafer will make the start in center field and bat leadoff against Matt Harvey. Look for Upton to return for the second game.

    • B.J. Upton went 1-for-4 with a double Sunday against the Giants.
Advice: Upton was coming off a two-homer performance on Saturday, so he was bumped to the No. 5 spot in the lineup. The double was his sixth extra-base hit in his last 13 games. Upton is starting to show signs of life, but is still batting just .167/.264/.315 in 60 games this season.

    • B.J. Upton went 2-for-4 with two home runs in the Braves' comeback victory over the Giants on Saturday.
Advice: The multi-homer game was his first this year, giving him eight home runs through 59 games. We keep looking for signs that Upton may be figuring it out and this may finally be it. But until he does it for a few games in a row, we'll wait before pronouncing him right this time.

    • Josh Willingham (knee) is back in the Twins' starting lineup on Tuesday evening versus the White Sox.

    • Josh Willingham is not in the Twins' lineup Sunday after being given a cortisone shot in his ailing left knee.
Advice: The knee has been giving Willingham issues for a while, so the club decided it was best to give him a shot in hopes that it speeds along the recovery process. The outfielder is hoping to be back in the lineup Tuesday after Monday's off day. Oswaldo Arcia is starting in left field Sunday.

    • Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Friday that Josh Willingham is dealing with some minor knee soreness.
Advice: This is why Willingham has been used out of the DH spot this week. While the situation warrants monitoring, it doesn't appear that the issue will take him out of the lineup.

    • Dayan Viciedo tripled with the bases loaded in the sixth to lead the White Sox to a 4-2 win over the Astros on Monday.
Advice: Viciedo saved the White Sox from what might have been a four-game sweep in Houston. The Astros got all of their runs in the sixth off Bud Norris. The triple was Viciedeo's third in 261 major league games, and it gave him his first multi-RBI game since May 15. That was also the day on which he last homered.

    • Yankees acquired OF Fernando Martinez from the Astros in exchange for RHP Charles Basford.
Advice: Martinez cleared waivers last month after being designated for assignment, but he'll now get a fresh start in another organization. The former top prospect is a career .206/.269/.362 hitter over parts of five major league seasons. He'll be assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

    • Martin Prado went 1-for-4 Monday against the Marlins.
Advice: Owners hoping for Prado to shake his season-long slump as the weather began heating up have been disappointed, as June has been the veteran's worst at the plate thus far. Prado hasn't hit a homer since late-April and has logged an RBI in just two games this month. He's batting an anemic .244/.296/.335 in his first season in Arizona.

    • Nelson Cruz homered twice, doubled and knocked in four runs as the Rangers beat the A's 8-7 on Monday.
Advice: Cruz homered off Dan Straily in the fourth and Jesse Chavez in the fifth, giving him 18 bombs for the year. Only Chris Davis (24) and Miguel Cabrera (19) have more in the AL. If Cruz stays healthy, his career high of 33 homers is probably going down.

    • Brandon Barnes went 3-for-5 with a couple of steals against the White Sox on Monday.
Advice: Justin Maxwell is expected back in Houston's lineup on Tuesday, but Barnes should remain the team's center fielder, with Maxwell primarily playing right. That doesn't give him much fantasy value -- he's been struggling offensively since his nice April -- but he's an acceptable fifth outfielder in AL-only leagues.

    • Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and three runs scored as the Red Sox beat the Rays 5-1 in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.
Advice: Ellsbury didn't steal any bases, but that's OK; he's batting .347 with 10 steals and 12 runs scored in 11 games this month. He'll be in center field again for the nightcap versus the Rays.

    • Dexter Fowler (finger) went 1-for-4 in his return to the Rockies' starting lineup on Sunday.

    • Dexter Fowler (finger) is not in Friday's lineup against the Phillies.
Advice: Fowler suffered a bruised knuckle on his right ring finger when he was hit by a pitch Thursday. He was still dealing with swelling and was unable to swing a bat, so it sounds like he could miss a few days. Tyler Colvin in starting in center field.

    • Dexter Fowler is day-to-day with a bruised knuckle on his right finger.
Advice: Fowler suffered the injury Thursday when he was hit on the hand by a pitch while attempting to pull back from a bunt attempt. He apparently didn't require an X-ray, but he has some swelling that needs to go down before being cleared to play.

Advice: Quentin felt something after taking a swing during Friday's game, so he'll get the day off Saturday to avoid further injury. There's no indication of the severity of the injury. We'll assume it's day-to-day for now.

    • Astros optioned OF Jimmy Paredes to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Advice: Paredes was sent down in order to make room for Justin Maxwell's return from the disabled list. It was a fairly easy call, as the 24-year-old is hitting just .190 in 31 games this season and lost playing time to Trevor Crowe in recent weeks.

    • Braves placed C Evan Gattis on the 15-day disabled list with a strained oblique.
Advice: No word on how or when the injury occurred, but oblique strains usually require some extended rest. Gattis has been one of the best stories in baseball this season, coming out of nowhere to hit .252 with 14 home runs and a .894 OPS in 53 games. Tyler Pastornicky will take his place on the active roster while Gerald Laird will function as the primary backup to Brian McCann.

    • Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez expects Evan Gattis to make back-to-back starts during their upcoming five-game series with the Mets.
Advice: Gattis hasn't been in the Braves' lineup since Wednesday, but is expected to start consecutive games at left field and catcher this week. "We got to put him in there," Gonzalez said. "Looking forward, I think we'll get him in there a couple days in a row with the doubleheader Tuesday."

    • Astros activated OF Justin Maxwell from the 15-day disabled list.
Advice: Maxwell, out since April 23 with a fractured hand, hit .128 (5-for-39) with one home run and five RBI in 11 rehab games between Double- and Triple-A. The 29-year-old is expected to return as a member of the starting lineup, but Astros manager Bo Porter has indicated that he may see playing time in a corner outfield spot, as he likes what Brandon Barnes brings defensively in center field.

  • Sat, Jun 15
    • Astros manager Bo Porter suggested Friday that Justin Maxwell (hand) may not be the starting center fielder when he returns from the disabled list.
Advice: Maxwell is still locked into a starting job, but could be used in one of the corner outfield spots. "I'm going to say that he will start. I'm not going to say it will be at center field," Porter said. "Brandon Barnes has done a great job there. He will warrant some continued playing time. That's why we've had Maxwell play some places beside center field [during his rehab assignment]."

    • Michael Morse is not in the Mariners' lineup Tuesday due to his nagging right quad injury.
Advice: Morse originally suffered the injury in late May, and he's been unable to totally shake it. The M's have admitted that they would have placed him on the DL earlier had they not been dealing with other injuries, and they're probably wishing they would have gone ahead and done it, anyway. Morse was out testing the quad prior to Tuesday's game and is hoping to be back in the lineup soon.
