    • Tigers recalled RHP Luke Putkonen from Triple-A Toledo.
Advice: Putkonen will provide some needed depth for the Detroit bullpen, which got heavy use this weekend in Texas. The right-hander will operate as a mid-to-long reliever.

    • Oscar Taveras (ankle) is expected to return to action at Triple-A Memphis by the middle of this week.
Advice: Taveras injured his right ankle last Sunday while attempting to steal second base. X-rays taken in the immediate aftermath showed no structural damage, but the Cardinals have understandably decided to play it safe with their top prospect. Taveras, 20, was batting .317 with an .831 OPS through his first 31 games this season for the Memphis Redbirds. He should reach the major league level at some point in 2013.

    • Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that Anthony Gose will not be an everyday player.
Advice: The talented 22-year-old outfielder was promoted from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday morning but isn't likely to hold much value in standard mixed fantasy leagues. Gibbons said Gose will "help out on defense" and as a pinch-runner. He will not make very many starts.

    • Gordon Beckham (hand) tallied three hits Sunday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Charlotte.
Advice: Beckham went 2-for-4 on Saturday in his rehab debut and is looking ready to rejoin the White Sox. But since he's been out so long -- over five weeks -- the second baseman will likely remain on the farm until Friday.

    • Gordon Beckham (hand) could be activated from the disabled list for the White Sox' series against the Marlins next weekend.
Advice: Beckham, who had surgery last month to remove the hamate bone from his left hand, will begin a rehab assignment on Saturday. The White Sox have been using Jeff Keppinger at second base and will welcome the defensive upgrade with Beckham.

    • John Danks (shoulder) went 4 2/3 innings Saturday in his third minor league rehab start.
Advice: If everything checks out with the left-hander early this week, he should be cleared to join the White Sox starting rotation on Friday night against the Marlins. Danks has been on the shelf all year and makes for a decent waiver stash right now in AL-only fantasy leagues. Since he's coming off shoulder surgery and still rebuilding his arm strength, it might not be wise to trust him right out of the gate in standard mixed formats. Even against Miami.

    • John Danks (shoulder) could rejoin the White Sox' rotation next weekend.
Advice: Danks will make what could be his final rehab start with Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday. The left-hander holds a 3.00 ERA over three rehab outings, but he has a 10/9 K/BB ratio over 18 innings and his velocity remains down. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach, though he would get a nice first matchup against the Marlins if he returns next weekend.

    • David Murphy went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Sunday night's win over the Tigers.
Advice: With Ian Kinsler on the DL, the Rangers are using Elvis Andrus as their leadoff hitter and Murphy in the No. 2 spot. It's not exactly a deserved promotion after Murphy posted a .170/.215/.295 batting line in April, but there's not any other current options. Murphy appears to be finally healthy after missing time last week with a lower back injury.

He had a cool 2.78 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 25/6 K/BB ratio through his first 22 2/3 innings (four starts) this season at Triple-A Tacoma and could reach the major leagues later this summer if he can get healthy.

    • David Freese needed stitches along the base of his right thumb after Sunday's win over the Brewers.
Advice: Freese suffered a small gash while applying a diving tag on Norichika Aoki's cleat at home plate. The Cardinals' third baseman does not expect to miss any playing time. • Felix Hernandez wasn't sharp Sunday, allowing six runs -- five earned -- over just five innings in a loss to the Indians.
Advice: King Felix recorded eight strikeouts, but he allowed eight hits and walked a pair. The Mariners' ace left his last outing with a back issue, so it's possible it was an issue for him again today. As long as he's healthy, Hernandez is obviously a good bet to bounce back against the Rangers his next time out.

Advice: Hernandez tweaked his back while fielding a ground ball and turning and throwing to second base in the sixth. He would have come out for the seventh if not for the minor ailment. It's not expected to affect his next start, though. "He's good," Wedge said. • Fernando Rodney bounced back from last Thursday's disastrous outing with a 1-2-3 ninth on Sunday against the Orioles to notch his eighth save of the season.
Advice: Rodney didn't record a strikeout, but he got a flyout and a couple harmless groundouts in the outing. His control has waned at times this season, but Rodney has received a vote of confidence from manager Joe Maddon and will continue to see the save chances in Tampa.

    • Rays manager Joe Maddon said that Fernando Rodney will likely be unavailable Friday.
Advice: Rodney threw 35 pitches during his blow save Thursday, so Maddon would like to stay from him. Joel Peralta is the most likely option to fill in and could eventually take the closer job if Rodney continues to look like, well, the old Rodney.

    • Fernando Rodney gave up three runs in the ninth to take his third blown save and his second loss Thursday against the Red Sox.
Advice: Rodney walked three to load the bases, got ahead of Will Middlebrooks 0-2 with two outs and then gave up a three-run double on a changeup left over the plate. Afterwards, he couldn't even be bothered to back up home plate. He was left in anyway, but only long enough to walk his fourth hitter of the night. Rodney's command has been an issue all year long, and he had no idea where his fastball was going tonight. His changeup was still working, and it was almost good enough to get him a scoreless inning and a save anyway. Still, he's officially become a problem for the Rays. He probably won't be pulled from the closer's role, but it's something Joe Maddon needs to think about. Joel Peralta would be next in line for saves.
