• Looking better lately
Wentz tossed a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts in Wednesday's loss to Atlanta, extending his streak of scoreless outings to four.

Advice: Wentz has had an up-and-down season, though he's trending upward recently. The lefty had a 1.08 ERA across his first 11 appearances, then posted a 16.00 ERA over his next six games before his current scoreless streak started. Overall, Wentz has a 5.34 ERA, and he's mostly off the fantasy radar as a low-leverage reliever despite his better results lately. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:10 pm

  • Colten Brewer collects first career save Wednesday
Colten Brewer tossed a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Giants to record his first career save.

Advice: We’re not totally sure what to make of Chicago’s closing situation at the moment as Brewer became the sixth different Cubs reliever to record a save this year. The 31-year-old righty issued a pair of walks, but still managed to escape with his first career save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:35 pm
  • Kyle Hendricks whiffs eight in win over Giants
Kyle Hendricks struck out eight and allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Giants.

Advice: Hendricks carried a no-hit bid into the sixth inning on Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field before coughing up a leadoff double to Thairo Estrada, who came around to score later in the frame on a ground out from Heliot Ramos. He induced 14 swinging strikes and finished with a near-elite 39 percent CSW. It was his strongest outing of the season by a considerable margin. The soft-tossing 34-year-old veteran is too risky to trust in shallow mixed leagues in the wake of his early-season struggles, but he’s making the most of his opportunity to step back into Chicago’s injury-ravaged starting rotation. He’ll take the ball on Tuesday in a rematch against the Giants out in San Francisco at Oracle Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:34 pm
  • Matthew Liberatore allows two runs in spot start
Matthew Liberatore gave up two runs over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Marlins.

Advice: Liberatore drew the starting assignment for Wednesday’s series finale at loanDepot park after Kyle Gibson was scratched a couple hours prior to first pitch due to back tightness and turned in his longest outing of the season. He gave up a pair of solo homers in the opening frame, but managed to keep Miami scoreless into the fourth inning before handing things over to the rest of the Cardinals’ bullpen. He struck out one and also issued one walk. There’s a chance he gets a couple additional starts moving forward, but has seemingly settled in nicely as a throwback swingman for St. Louis. It’s a disappointing outcome given his prospect pedigree, but he’s done a nice job gobbling up innings this season at the highest level. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:26 pm
  • Getting spot start Wednesday
Liberatore will start Wednesday's game in Miami in place of the injured Kyle Gibson (back), Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: Gibson was a late scratch, forcing the Cardinals to turn to Liberatore, who threw 12 pitches and allowed one run over two-thirds of an inning in a relief appearance during Tuesday's loss to the Marlins. Liberatore has made three starts for St. Louis this season, but his last one came a month ago. He hasn't thrown more than 23 pitches in an appearance since then and will be going on zero days' rest Wednesday, so he'll presumably be in store for an abbreviated outing. • Kirby Yates takes first loss after unearned run
Kirby Yates took his first loss after giving up an unearned run in the ninth Tuesday against the Mets.

Advice: José Leclerc’s inability to get the job done in the seventh stressed the Rangers bullpen tonight. David Roberson had to get the final two outs of that inning and then wound up giving up two runs in the eighth on his 30th pitch of the night. Yates came into a tie game in the ninth and gave up the go-ahead run on a walk, a catcher’s interference and a double. The catcher’s interference was provided by J.D. Martinez, who again tested the boundaries of the batter’s box, but at least he didn’t break anyone’s arm this time. Rotoworld Tuesday, 8:46 pm
  • Can't convert save opportunity
Neris (6-2) took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter over one inning.

Advice: Neris entered in the top of the ninth frame with Chicago leading by two runs. He got one out before Jorge Soler reached base on catcher's interference. Mike Yastrzemski followed with a walk before Thairo Estrada gave San Francisco the lead with a three-run homer. Though Neris retired the following two batters, the damage had been done, and the Cubs weren't able to mount a comeback in the bottom of the frame. The blown save was the fourth of the season for Neris and his third over his past seven chances. He's allowed nine earned runs across his past 8.2 frames, so his hold on the closer position may be tenuous. Rotowire.com Monday, 10:14 pm
  • Neris blows save as Cubs lose 7-6 Monday
Hector Neris allowed three runs, blew the save and took the loss against the Giants on Monday.

Advice: The Cubs’ lead evaporated quickly in the ninth inning. With one out, Jorge Soler reached on a catcher interference. After Neris issued a walk to Mike Yastrzemski, Thairo Estrada hit a three-run home run to give the Giants a 7-6 lead. Neris now has four blown saves on the year including two blown saves in his last three opportunities. Neris’ ERA is now 4.73 on the year. His grip on the closer role loosens with every blown save. • Expected to join team in San Diego
Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Monday that Junis (shoulder) is expected to return from the 60-day injured list during the team's four-game road series against the Padres that begins Thursday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Junis will meet the team in San Diego, barring any discomfort following his simulated game in Arizona on Monday. The 31-year-old has been on the injured list since April 6 with a right shoulder impingement and had his return further delayed when he was struck in the head by a ball during the Brewers' April 22 batting practice session. He looks to have recovered from both injuries, however, and appears to be on the cusp of a return to the major-league roster. Given that Junis already built up to four innings in a sim game prior to Monday's outing, he should be a candidate to join the Brewers' depleted rotation this weekend. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:23 pm
