• Mike Trout (knee) remains without return timeline
Mike Trout (knee) told reporters Tuesday that he hasn’t resumed running and remains without a definitive return timeline.

Advice: Trout added that his recovery from last month’s surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee has been progressing slower than he wants, which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that he’ll make it back at any point in the near future. The 32-year-old generational talent is roughly six weeks removed from the procedure and there isn’t any sort of timeline for his potential return at this juncture. Rotoworld Today, 2:41 pm

  • Breather Tuesday
Alvarez is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the White Sox, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

Advice: Alvarez will get a breather after he went 2-for-9 with two RBI and two strikeouts over the team's three-game series with the Tigers prior to Monday's off day. Yainer Diaz will slot in at designated hitter while Victor Caratini enters the lineup at catcher and bats seventh versus Chicago. Rotowire.com Today, 2:16 pm

  • Starting rehab assignment
Abreu (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette reports.

Advice: Abreu is slated to bat second and serve as the designated hitter for the WooSox. He's been sidelined for just over two weeks with a right ankle sprain, so Abreu shouldn't need many rehab at-bats before rejoining the Red Sox' active roster. Rotowire.com Today, 11:26 am

  • Will be out beyond minimum 10 days
Baez (spine) is without a precise timeline to return from the injured list, but the Tigers are preparing for him to miss more than the minimum 10 days, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Baez's stint on the IL is retroactive to June 9, making him eligible for activation at any point after Tuesday. However, the Tigers don't seem eager to rush Baez back from lumbar spine inflammation, especially after the shortstop had dealt with back pain for much of last season. Baez visited a doctor in Florida this past weekend and received an injection in his back to alleviate the inflammation, and the shot appears to have taken the desired effect since he began participating in light hitting drills Tuesday, per Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Zach McKinstry and Ryan Kreidler have formed a platoon at shortstop since Baez went on the shelf. Rotowire.com Today, 7:28 am

  • William Contreras (head) available off bench
William Contreras is available to come off the bench Monday after leaving Sunday’s game with a head injury.

Advice: Contreras hasn’t had any concussion symptoms today, so the Brewers are confident that he’s going to be OK. They did have Gary Sánchez start behind the plate tonight, but Contreras is available to hit and play defense. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:20 pm

  • Available off bench
Contreras (head) is available to pinch-hit or enter the game defensively off the bench Monday versus the Angels, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Contreras will be forced to miss his second contest of the season after taking a shot to the head while applying the tag at home plate to finish Sunday's 5-4 win over the Reds, but manager Pat Murphy said Monday that the catcher "is going to be fine." Contreras appears to have avoided any significant injury, which is music to the ears of fantasy managers who have reaped the benefits of his stellar play in 2024. • José Soriano gets scratched due to abdominal pain
José Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start Monday due to abdominal pain.

Advice: Zach Plesac will go right into the rotation and start after being called up this afternoon. Hopefully, this is an illness and not something else abdomen-related for Soriano. Then again, the only way he’s going to finish this season as a starter is if he does miss a chunk of time on the injured list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:28 pm

  • Scratched from start
Soriano was scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Brewers due to lower abdominal pain.

Advice: Soriano was expected to toe the rubber for the series opener with Milwaukee, but he'll now be forced to take a seat. The severity of his injury is unknown, but in the meantime, Zach Plesac was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to make a spot start in Soriano's stead. Soriano had a 2.90 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 37 strikeouts in 49.2 innings over his last eight starts. He has gone six-plus innings in four straight starts and boasts an elite 60.1 percent groundball rate on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:26 pm

  • Not starting Monday
Contreras (head) is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Angels.

Advice: Contreras was evaluated for concussion following Sunday's 5-4 win over the Reds after his head collided with Stuart Fairchild on a tag at home plate in the ninth inning. With Contreras out for the series opener Monday, Gary Sanchez will start behind home plate and bat eighth against Halos right-hander Jose Soriano. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:01 pm
