• Side session set for Wednesday
Hendriks (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Red Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey said Hendriks has been throwing "half-mound" sessions, but Wednesday's activity marks the reliever's first session throwing on the top of the mound since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery last August. If Wednesday's workout goes well, a normal progression would have Hendriks throwing two bullpen sessions per week before ramping up to face hitters. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:12 am

  • Cubs to start Hayden Wesneski on Wednesday
The Cubs will have Hayden Wesneski start Wednesday against the Giants.

Advice: It’ll be Hayden versus Hayden (Birdsong, the Giants’ pitcher making his MLB debut). Wesneski hasn’t thrown more than two innings since May 13, so this won’t be a particularly long start, especially if he doesn’t perform better than he has lately; he’s given up six runs and four homers over 7 1/3 innings in his last six appearances. • Roansy Contreras to start Wednesday against A’s
Roansy Contreras will start on Wednesday against the Athletics.

Advice: It’s a favorable matchup for streaming purposes, but Contreras is too risky to roll the dice on, with the notable exception of extremely deep mixed leagues or AL-only formats. The 24-year-old former prospect was acquired last month from the Pirates in a small trade and has fared reasonably well in nine relief appearances for Los Angeles. Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters they’re hoping to get at least four or five innings out of Contreras on Wednesday afternoon. Rotoworld Tuesday, 4:10 pm

  • Set to start Wednesday
Contreras will start Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 24-year-old was acquired from the Pirates in May and has worked out of the bullpen for his first nine appearances for the Halos. Contreras has pitched to a 3.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over 13.2 innings with Anaheim, and manager Ron Washington said the club is hoping the right-hander can cover about four or five innings versus Oakland, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. • Bullpen session later this week
Hendriks (elbow) is slated to throw a bullpen session later this week, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Advice: It will be his first time throwing off a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery in early August of last year. Hendriks is hoping to join the Red Sox' relief corps at some point during the final two months of this season, and while that's possible, the bigger-picture goal is having him healthy and ready to roll as a member of Boston's 2025 bullpen. • Liam Hendriks (elbow) to throw bullpen this week
Liam Hendriks (elbow) will progress to throwing a bullpen session this week.

Advice: Hendriks will throw his first bullpen session since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August. The 35-year-old righty isn’t expected to be ready to contribute for Boston until the outset of next season, but this is a notable step forward in his lengthy rehabilitation process. • Joins big-league bullpen
The Guardians recalled Curry from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Advice: Curry will provide Cleveland's bullpen with some length. The right-hander holds a 5.68 ERA and 8:3 K:BB over 12.2 frames covering three starts for the Guardians this season. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:56 pm
  • Guardians recall RHP Xzavion Curry from Triple-A
Guardians recalled RHP Xzavion Curry from Triple-A Columbus.

Advice: Curry had a 4.19 ERA in four starts since being sent down. Unless there’s something they haven’t revealed, the Guardians aren’t going to need Curry as a starter right now. Instead, it looks like he’ll return to the middle relief role he generally did good work in last year. Rotoworld Monday, 1:48 pm
  • Red Sox call up Josh Winckowski from AAA
Red Sox recalled RHP Josh Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester.

Advice: The Red Sox have used Winckowski mostly out of the bullpen this season, but he started in six of his seven appearances at Triple-A while posting a 2.87 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 19/11 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings. He will likely return to a multi-inning relief role for the Red Sox. Brad Keller was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Rotoworld Monday, 12:19 pm
