• Luis Medina holds Royals to one run in win
Luis Medina allowed one run with three strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Medina put together a solid start against the Royals, holding them to one run into the sixth inning. He tossed four scoreless frames before Bobby Witt Jr. brought a run in to score on a double in the fifth. Medina recorded the first two outs in the sixth and exit with one runner on base. He struck out three. The 25-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.71 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and a 13/10 K/BB ratio across 21 innings. He’ll take on the Angels in Anaheim on Monday. • Exits with trainer
Altavilla was removed from Wednesday's game against the Athletics due to a back injury, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Altavilla seemed to be grabbing at his right side after throwing a pitch in the eighth inning of Wednesday's contest, but manager Matt Quatraro said after the game that the issue was with Altavilla's back. The right-hander will be checked out by a doctor Thursday, at which point the Royals will know more regarding the severity of his injury. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:15 pm
  • Phil Maton closes out Twins on Wednesday night
Phil Maton slammed the door on the Twins on Wednesday evening, working a perfect 10th inning to preserve a one-run advantage.

Advice: The Rays scratched out a run on a Royce Lewis miscue in the top half of the 10th inning, then Maton came on and made sure that it would stand up. He got Royce Lewis on a ground ball to third base, punched out Max Kepler and got Carlos Correa to fly out to left to end it — needing only five pitches (all strikes) to get the job done. Jason Adam worked the ninth inning with Pete Fairbanks (thumb) sidelined and picked up the victory in the game. For Maton, it’s his second save of the season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:57 pm
  • Kirby Yates secures 11th save
Kirby Yates pitched a clean ninth inning with a strike out in a win over the Mets on Wednesday.

Advice: Yates worked a pain-free ninth after struggling on Tuesday against this same Mets lineup in a tie game. He’s been one of the best closers in the league since earning the role in April with a sterling 1.03 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:53 pm
  • Andrew Heaney strikes out nine Mets
Andrew Heaney allowed three earned runs in six innings against the Mets on Wednesday. He struck out nine and walked two in a no-decision.

Advice: Heaney has sneakily been decent this season - go figure it’s the first year he wasn’t listed in every sleeper and breakout list. He simplified his repertoire in this one with season-high 91% of his pitches being either a fastball or slider, a season-high. It worked here as the Mets could not figure him out. He’ll take a 4.21 ERA into his next start against the Brewers. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:51 pm
  • Jakob Junis set to join Brewers over weekend
Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) will join the Brewers in San Diego for their weekend series against the Padres.

Advice: It has yet to be determined whether Junis will work as a starter or as a reliever, but he’s finally ready to rejoin the team after missing more than two months with a right shoulder impingement and a head injury that he suffered when he was struck by a batted ball during batting practice. Junis has made one start for the Brewers this season, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP while striking out four batters over his four innings of work. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:53 pm

  • Bypassed in save opportunity
Neris was not used to close out Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants, with Colten Brewer getting the save instead.

Advice: Neris took the loss and blew a save against the Giants on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) in an inning of work, and he's allowed a total of seven earned runs over his last three outings. The veteran's ERA has climbed to 4.73 as a result of his recent struggles, and he's blown four saves this year in 14 chances. Chicago manager Craig Counsell said following Monday's game that he didn't plan on making a change at closer, according to James Neveau of Yahoo Sports, but this situation could be fluid. Brewer is at least worth keeping an eye on in the short term. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:39 pm
  • Records first save
Brewer worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Giants.

Advice: Brewer just returned from the injured list last week and he's possibly already moved up the bullpen hierarchy. Regular closer Hector Neris has allowed seven earned runs over his last three appearances with two blown saves, including in Monday's contest. The veteran Neris may have simply been getting some rest, and there's been no official word that the team is making a change, but this is a situation worth monitoring. Brewer would of course see a jump in fantasy value if he starts getting regular save opportunities. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:30 pm
  • Earns win in return to rotation
Hendricks (1-4) allowed one run on two hits across 5.2 innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Giants. He walked one and struck out eight.

Advice: Making his first start since May 17, Hendricks looked sharp, particularly with the season-high eight strikeouts. Since that last start and his shift to the bullpen, the veteran has pitched much better than earlier in the season. Hendricks now has a 2.70 ERA over his last 20 innings pitched including Wednesday's start. He figures to stick in the rotation for now, and his next appearance is tentatively set for Tuesday against the Giants again, this time on the road. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:17 pm
