Advice: Merrill produced the only Padres run with a solo shot to center field in the fifth inning. The rookie has homered in three straight contests, belting four total long balls over that span. Merrill has also notched at least one hit in nine of his past 10 games and is batting .351 (13-for-37) with eight extra-base hits, six RBI, seven runs and two steals during that stretch. Homers in lossSoto went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Red Sox.
Advice: Soto recently battled a forearm injury, and that may have been bothering him during an eight-game stretch without a homer. He also walked multiple times for the sixth time in 11 contests in June. The outfielder continues to put up superstar numbers with 18 homers, 55 RBI, 58 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .319/.435/.599 slash line over 70 games this season. Rotowire.com -

Advice: Jones was not great, and the Pittsburgh bullpen allowed 10 more runs to score in a 16-4 blowout loss to the Rockies. The right-hander gave up six hits, and he also walked four on a night where the command just wasn’t there for the 22-year-old. He still was able to strike out six, and his rookie campaign has certainly been a success even with a couple of so-so outings as of late. Advice: All of Milwaukee's runs in the contest came on Ortiz's fifth-inning homer off Reds starter Andrew Abbott. The long ball was Ortiz's first since May 17 -- a span of 24 games. Power isn't a big part of Ortiz's profile, but he's proven plenty capable with the bat in his first full season in the majors, slashing .281/.381/.472 with six home runs, 27 RBI, 26 runs, four stolen bases and a 28:31 BB:K through 211 plate appearances. Juan Soto blasts 18th homer in loss on SaturdayJuan Soto blasted his 18th home run of the season on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to power the Yankees past the Red Sox in Boston.
Advice: Soto victimized Justin Slaten for his 392-foot (105.1 mph EV) solo shot in the seventh inning that pulled the Bombers to within two runs at 5-3. He also drew a pair of walks in the contest, finishing the evening 1-for-3 officially. Jackson Merrill power binge continues in lossJackson Merrill went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.
Advice: Merrill launched a 411-foot blast against Jose Quintana for his seventh home run of the season. The rookie now has four home runs in his last three games. All of them have also been solo shots. Merrill was billed as primarily a batting average asset who wouldn’t provide much power, so it’s nice to see him starting to show some pop. Not close to returningMuncy (oblique) is at least a week away from swinging a bat and doesn't have a timeline for return, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Advice: Muncy's recovery from a right oblique strain has been unexpectedly slow, and he doesn't seem particularly close to returning. The 33-year-old hasn't swung a bat in a few weeks and won't be cleared for swings for at least another week, all but ruling out a June return. Recently acquired Cavan Biggio and Enrique Hernandez should handle most of the work at third base until Muncy returns. Rotowire.com -
Not yet doing on-field activityTrout (knee) has yet to progress to performing on-field activities, per MLB.com.
Advice: Trout has been out of action since being diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his left knee near the end of April. Los Angeles has thus far kept him on the 10-day IL, but he doesn't seem to be anywhere near being activated -- or even beginning a minor-league rehab stint -- given his lack of baseball activity. Trout is expected to return to action at some point this season, but the Angels are unlikely to rush him back given their position in the standings, and his timeframe for rejoining the team remains very hazy.
