    • Spencer Steer goes deep in Friday’s loss to Tigers
Spencer Steer went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI on Friday night as the Reds fell to the Tigers in the opening game of their three-game weekend series.

Advice: Steer got the Reds on the board in the fifth inning with a mammoth 425-foot (106.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Reese Olson. He also plated a run with an RBI single off of Jason Foley in the ninth inning and scored on Nick Martini’s RBI triple. With his two-hit attack, the dynamic 26-year-old is now slashing .242/.334/.427 with 12 homers, 56 RBI and 13 stolen bases on the season. Rotoworld 4 minutes ago

    • Sonny Gray hit hard by Nationals
Sonny Gray allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings of work against the Nationals on Friday. He struck out six and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: It was a very humid night in our nation’s capital and you could see the sweat pouring off Gray in his gray jersey. Clearly uncomfortable, he also could not find a way through lefties CJ Abrams, Jesse Winker, and Luis García Jr. They all tagged him for at least one extra-base hit while Winker and García had five combined hard-hit balls off Gray. He struggles with lefties relative to righties (.319 wOBA vs. L, .210 wOBA vs. R) mostly because his sweeper is less effective against opposite-handed batters. He tried to combat that with more curveballs, but it wasn’t enough. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago
    • Allows seven runs in loss
Severino (5-3) took the loss against the Pirates on Friday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings.

Advice: Severino surrendered four runs on three homers between the fourth and fifth innings. He was pulled after loading the bases to open the seventh but all three inherited runners scored on a grand slam. Severino yielded nine hard-hit balls Friday and has allowed six long balls and 17 earned runs over his past four outings. On the season, the 30-year-old owns a 3.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 77:34 K:BB over 103.1 innings and lines up for a home matchup with the Nationals next week. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
    • Luis Severino lit up for seven runs by Pirates
Luis Severino allowed nine hits and seven earned runs in six-plus innings on Friday against the Pirates. He struck out three and walked two in a loss.

Advice: This start from Severino got bad quickly. The Pirates smacked three home runs between the fourth and fifth innings and then he loaded the bases in the sixth before being pulled. Jake Diekman promptly gave up a grand slam to Bryan Reynolds and the rout was on. Still, Severino was not great. He continues to rely heavily on his fastballs, he threw his sinker 54% of the time and four-seam fastball 18% as his two most thrown pitches, and play this pitch-to-contact game. That can work unless the ball leaves the yard like it did on Friday. Rotoworld Today, 6:22 pm
    • Not facing lefty
Kjerstad is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Advice: Kjerstad will take a seat Friday with southpaw Hogan Harris on the mound for Oakland. Austin Hays, Colton Cowser and Anthony Santander will fill the outfield from left to right. Rotowire.com Today, 4:16 pm
    • Heston Kjerstad sits against left-hander on Friday
Heston Kjerstad is not in the Orioles’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Athletics in Oakland.

Advice: Once again the 25-year-old slugger finds himself on the sideline with an opposing left-hander on the hill. Austin Hays will start in left field for the Orioles on Friday night and will bat sixth against Hogan Harris and the Athletics. Rotoworld Today, 4:07 pm
    • Bryan Woo (hamstring) to make rehab start Saturday
Bryan Woo (hamsting) will make a minor league rehab start at High-A Everett on Saturday.

Advice: The Mariners are hopeful that he’ll be able to throw around 45-50 pitches in the ballgame. Woo also participated in pitcher’s fielding practice without issue on Friday. He won’t be ready to rejoin the Mariners’ rotation next week, but it sounds like he could be ready to go immediately following the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:49 pm

    • Ian Happ drives in two runs in Cubs’ victory
Ian Happ had two more hits and two more RBI against the Angels in Friday’s win.

Advice: Just like last night, it was again Happ and Seiya Suzuki, who hit a two-run homer, doing the heavy lifting for the Cubs offense. They both have .806 OPSs at the moment and, given the state of the NL outfield poor, legitimate cases for All-Star nods. Happ probably has the better argument, since he’s played in 20 more games than Suzuki. Rotoworld Today, 2:32 pm

    • Dealing with glute tightness
Smith is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Rays due to glute tightness, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Advice: It's the same injury that kept Smith off the field for four games in June, and the hope this time around is that the injury will keep him out of the lineup for just one or two games. Since June 1, the 26-year-old infielder is slashing .319/.407/.511 with four home runs, 12 RBI and an .918 OPS over 94 at-bats. Rotowire.com Today, 2:11 pm
