    • Brandon Belt went 3-for-4 with an RBI double in the Giants' 5-4 win over the Padres on Tuesday.
Advice: The Giants snapped San Diego's seven-game winning streak. Belt's double off Dale Thayer tied the game in the bottom of the eighth, and Juan Perez singled him home for the go-ahead run. Belt has collected seven hits in his last three games, raising his average from .246 to .264.

    • Brandon Belt is not in the Giants' lineup Saturday.
Advice: Belt went 0-for-4 in Friday's win over the Braves. The Giants are starting Guillermo Quiroz at catcher, while Buster Posey will replace him in the lineup at first base.

    • Brandon Belt went 1-for-4 with a double in Thursday's 10-0 blowout victory against the Pirates.
Advice: Belt has seven home runs this year, as many as he had in more than double the at-bats in 2012. He's batting .251/.323/.422 with 29 RBI in 199 at-bats.

    • Brandon Moss went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored as the A's beat the Rangers 6-2 on Tuesday.
Advice: Moss has homers in two of his last three games and 13 on the year. The first baseman also tripled in the game, his third already this season. Moss likely won't replicate the .291 batting average he finished with in 2012, but he is well on his way to another 20-homer season.

    • Jordan Lyles spun seven innings of one-run ball in Tuesday's 10-1 victory over the Brewers.
Advice: Lyles permitted seven hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out five. It continues a run of excellent work from the young right-hander, as Lyles now boasts a 1.61 ERA over his last seven starts. He needs to be in fantasy lineups this weekend in Chicago against the Cubs.

    • Nathan Eovaldi pitched six innings of two-run ball Tuesday against the Diamondbacks in his season debut.
Advice: Back from a shoulder injury, Eovaldi allowed just three hits tonight and he made it through six innings in a modest 84 pitches. That he's a Marlin really cuts into his fantasy upside -- wins will be very difficult to come by -- but he should have a little value in NL-only leagues anyway.

    • Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
Advice: Eovaldi has been out all year with shoulder inflammation, but he didn't have any setbacks during five rehab starts. He should be worth owning in NL-only leagues.

    • Josh Hamilton has his worst game yet for the Angels on Tuesday, grounding into three double plays and striking out twice.
Advice: Hamilton had at least one runner on every time up tonight, and he snuffed rallies at every single opportunity in the 3-2 loss. Manager Mike Scioscia may want to move him out of the two hole after this one. He may actually want to bat him ninth after this one.

  • Tue, Jun 18
    • Josh Hamilton went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and two RBI against the Mariners on Monday.
Advice: Coming off a Sunday off-day against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia, Hamilton teed off in an easier matchup, taking Aaron Harang deep for a two-run shot in the second. Hamilton owners, much like the Angels, are stuck in a holding pattern with the former top slugger. Nobody is going to take his .217/.273/.395 slash line off your hands and offer you value back, but it's unlikely that you have a more talented backup to insert into the lineup until Hamilton regains his stroke.

    • Paul Goldschmidt homered off Chad Qualls in the bottom of the ninth to give the Diamondbacks a 3-2 win over the Marlins on Tuesday.
Advice: Does it still count as a walkoff homer when it comes off Qualls? We'll assume it does. The homer, Goldschmidt's 17th, snapped the Diamondbacks' four-game losing streak. He's batting just .232 in 69 at-bats this month, but he's driven in 20 runs anyway.

    • Mike Pelfrey allowed four runs in six innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday.
Advice: Pelfrey was only slightly better than his counterpart, Dylan Axelrod, as both starters allowed 10 hits over six innings. On the plus side, Pelfrey didn't walk a batter in the outing, only the second time he's done that all season. He's stuck at 3-6 and hasn't recorded a win in over a month, with the last coming on May 5. He'll search for his fourth win against the Indians Sunday in Cleveland.

    • Yoervis Medina pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th in a 3-2 game to earn the save as the Mariners edged the Angels on Tuesday.
Advice: Medina might have been in line for the save in the ninth anyway, given that Oliver Perez was used to pitch a scoreless seventh with the Mariners up 2-1. Tom Wilhelmsen let that lead get away in the eighth, but the Mariners reclaimed it in the 10th after Erick Aybar couldn't quite get a handle on Kendrys Morales' sharp liner over his head. Medina went on to retire Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo and Howie Kendrick in order for the save. He's now a candidate for more saves, though he has the same sort of control troubles as Wilhelmsen. Even after tonight, he's walked 11 in his last 13 1/3 innings of work.

    • Logan Forsythe went 2-for-4 and hit his second homer as the Padres' leadoff man on Tuesday.
Advice: Forsythe was a forgotten man in San Diego due to his spring foot injury and Jedd Gyorko's move to second base, but getting a chance with Gyorko absent, he's gone 9-for-28 so far and demonstrated why he still belongs in the Padres' plans going forward. He'll probably play some outfield after Gyorko returns.

    • Brandon Crawford (fingers) is expected to miss Wednesday's game.
Advice: Crawford sprained the index and middle fingers on his right hand during Tuesday's win over the Padres. His fingers were swollen and he couldn't grip a ball, but it sounds like there's a chance he could return Thursday. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.

    • Ryan Vogelsong had all five pins removed from his surgically-repaired right hand on Tuesday.
Advice: That's good news for Vogelsong, who originally expected to only have two or three pins removed. • Ryan Vogelsong will have an exam on Tuesday in hopes that he'll be allowed to remove two of the five pins from his surgically-repaired right hand.
Advice: "Hopefully there's some pins coming out tomorrow," he said Monday. "That's the plan, but obviously I don't know for sure until I get some X-rays tomorrow and see how things are healing." If Vogelsong is able to get the pins removed, he'll begin additional mobility exercises. The Giants are hoping to get him back in late July.

    • Matt Cain was denied a win after holding the Padres to two runs in seven innings and striking out a season-high 10 on Tuesday.
Advice: Cain left with a one-run lead, but that was blown by Jeremy Affeldt in the eighth. He's allowed just three runs over 20 2/3 innings in his last three starts, lowering his ERA from 5.45 to 4.55. He did have a streak of five straight starts without allowing a homer snapped when he gave up two solo shots tonight.

    • John Jaso hit his second home run of the season as the A's beat the Rangers on Tuesday.
Advice: Jaso doesn't put a charge in one often, so it's even more surprising when he hits one off the likes of Rangers starter Yu Darvish. In fact, Jaso's game is so predicated on getting on base that he actually owns a higher OBP than slugging percentage, sporting a .281/.379/.371 line for the year.

  • Fri, Jun 14
    • John Jaso went 2-for-7 with a walk and two runs scored Thursday against the Yankees.
Advice: Jaso isn't the best fantasy player -- he has very little power and no speed -- but he's given Oakland everything they could have hoped for in 2013. The veteran catcher is batting .280/.369/.350 over 157 at-bats.

Advice: Even Darvish's bad starts aren't all that bad, as he still managed to strike out 10 A's batters. Still, you could tell he didn't have his best stuff, as he served up homers to John Jaso and Brandon Moss among his six hits allowed. He'll go again Sunday in St. Louis in an interleague matchup.

    • Jarrod Parker allowed two runs over seven innings in a win against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Advice: Parker had a miserable start to the season but has been just as terrific recently, as he's now turned in a quality start in each of his last eight outings. The right-hander limited the Rangers to three hits and two walks in his seven innings on Tuesday, striking out four. The win finally evened his record at 6-6 after he was 1-5 at one point. He'll take on the Mariners Sunday in Seattle.

    • Randall Delgado yielded two runs in seven innings and struck out six Tuesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.
Advice: Delgado, who lost out on a rotation spot to Patrick Corbin this spring, was making his first start as a member of the Diamondbacks. He figures to get at least one more next week before a decision is made on his status. Since he won't be facing the Marlins again then (he could get the Reds on Sunday or the Nationals in the middle of the week), he won't be as good of a play in NL-only leagues.

    • Diamondbacks recalled RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Reno.
Advice: Delgado is starting for the Snakes on Tuesday night against the Marlins. He has a troubling 5.91 ERA and 57/35 K/BB ratio in 64 innings this season at the Triple-A level and can't be trusted in standard fantasy leagues.

    • Randall Delgado will be called up from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday against the Marlins.
Advice: He'll take the rotation spot of Tyler Skaggs, who was sent down to the minors last week. • Despite striking out no one, Jeremy Bonderman gave up just one run over six innings Tuesday against the Angels.
Advice: Bonderman allowed six hits, walked three and hit a batter, but he had Josh Hamilton hitting double-play balls to bail him out whenever things got tough. Just 52 of Bonderman's 92 pitches were strikes tonight, and that's not going to fly against most lineups.

    • After having his last start skipped, Joe Blanton allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings and struck out 11 against the Mariners on Tuesday.
Advice: That's a nice Quality Start for Blanton, but he still gave up two more homers (Raul Ibanez and Justin Smoak went back-to-back in the second inning), bringing his season total to 15 surrendered in 83 1/3 innings. He has pitched effectively in four of his last five outings, but an easier schedule has had a lot to do with that.

Advice: Blanton was skipped over the weekend, but he hasn't lost his spot in the rotation, at least not yet. He holds a 5.87 ERA and 1.63 WHIP for the season but has, for the most part, pitched better of late.

    • Paul Konerko went 4-for-4 in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday.
Advice: The four-hit night was Konerko's first of the season, raising his batting average 13 points in one night. The first baseman, who served as designated hitter on Tuesday, has had a rough go of it this year, hitting just .248/.314/.365. This may be the swan song for the 37-year-old.

Advice: Axelrod was actually somewhat fortunate to allow just the four earned runs, as he surrendered 10 hits and two walks on the night. The right-hander has hit a bit of a rough stretch, as he hasn't gotten a win since May 26. He'll try to correct that Sunday in Kansas City.

    • Joe Mauer went 3-for-5 with a home run in the Twins' 7-5 victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.
Advice: Mauer hit a two-run homer in the first inning and later doubled off White Sox starter Dylan Axelrod, falling a triple short of the cycle. The two RBI gave him 23 on the season to go with a .327/.412/.492 line. And the homer was his seventh, giving him a fair chance to eclipse his total of 10 in 2012. If he finishes with his current slugging percentage it would actually be his third-highest all-time among full seasons.

    • Tom Wilhelmsen gave up a game-tying homer to the first batter he faced after being brought into a one-run game in the eighth Tuesday against the Angels.
Advice: So, Wilhelmsen can't close at the moment, but he can be brought in to face Albert Pujols with the game on the line? Pujols took him deep on just his second pitch of the night. It was actually the first homer allowed by Wilhelmsen this season. After that, he came back and got five outs, though he did need Charlie Furbush to bail him out of a jam in a tie game in the ninth. Overall, it probably wasn't a showing that's going to help his chances of returning to the closer's role.

The 29-year-old is expected to return as a member of the starting lineup, but Astros manager Bo Porter has indicated that he may see playing time in a corner outfield spot, as he likes what Brandon Barnes brings defensively in center field.
