• Throws side session Friday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 30 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Rodriguez got up and down twice during the workout in what was his second throwing session of the week. The left-hander has been on the shelf all season with a left let strain and is expected to return from the 60-day injured list in early August. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:22 am
  • Throws sim game
Montgomery (knee) threw a two-inning simulated bullpen session Friday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Montgomery threw 40 pitches and got up and down twice in his second bullpen session of the week. The Diamondbacks believe he'll be ready to go for the first turn of the rotation following the All-Star break. The left-hander was placed on the injured list July 2 with right knee inflammation. • Freddy Peralta surrenders four runs in defeat
Freddy Peralta lost Friday after allowing four runs in five innings versus the Nationals.

Advice: Peralta struck out six and walked none, but he didn’t have much in the way of luck tonight; he gave up 10 hits, three of which came on weak flies to the outfield. He’s definitely been a fantasy disappointment since excelling in his first four starts of the year, but his peripherals are better than his ERA; odds are that he’ll bounce back in the second half. • Steady in no-decision
Nelson allowed three runs on five hits and struck out five without walking a batter over seven innings in a no-decision versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: After an inconsistent June, Nelson has settled down in July. He's allowed five runs and posted a 13:2 K:BB over 18.2 innings across his last three starts, though he has just one win in that span. The right-hander is nevertheless trending in the right direction, with his ERA now at 4.98 to go with a 1.42 WHIP and 59:20 K:BB over 86.2 innings this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 10:01 pm

  • Goes seven innings in loss
Waldron (5-8) allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out one over seven innings to take the loss Friday versus Atlanta.

Advice: Waldron has gone at least six innings in eight of his last nine starts, but this was the first time since May 5 he was tagged for more than three earned runs. He's now on a four-start winless skid, and Waldron is starting to have some trouble with homers -- after giving up two in the fifth inning Friday, he's been tagged for six long balls over his last five starts. The right-hander is still fairly reliable with a 3.71 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 93:31 K:BB in 106.2 innings through 19 starts this season, and struggling against Atlanta's strong lineup isn't overly concerning. • Kyle Harrison holds Twins to one run in victory
Kyle Harrison held the Twins to just one run while throwing 5 1/3 innings to get a win Friday.

Advice: Harrison’s run came when he was out of the game on a fielder’s choice that scored Carlos Correa off the bat of Willi Castro. The 22-year-old southpaw issued only one walk while striking out three in his final start before the All-Star break. Harrison has had some ups and downs in his first full year of MLB action, but a 4.08 ERA and 73/27 K/BB over 86 innings illustrate there’s reason for optimism in both the short and long-term. • Ryne Nelson allows three over seven vs. Blue Jays
Ryne Nelson allowed three runs while working seven innings in a no-decision Friday versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: Nelson didn’t allow a run over the first four innings, but he allowed runners to cross over the next three. It was still a solid effort — even with the loss — where he struck out five and didn’t issue a walk. Nelson has looked much more effective over the last few outings, and his ERA has dropped from 5.96 on June 6 to a more palatable — if still not ideal — 4.98 in the process. • Matt Waldron goes seven, allows four in loss
Matt Waldron allowed four runs in seven innings in a loss to Atlanta on Friday.

Advice: Waldron struck out one with one walk and allowed six hits. The right-hander gave up two roundtrippers; a solo homer to Marcell Ozuna and a two-run blast to Orlando Arcia. Sans the homers it was a solid outing for the 27-year-old, but the homers did happen and San Diego scored all of one run while he was in the game. Waldron ends his first half with a 3.71 ERA and 94/31 K/BB over 106 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 8:54 pm

  • Tagged for four runs in loss
Peralta (6-5) took the loss Friday against Washington, allowing four runs on 10 hits and no walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The Milwaukee right-hander entered this contest on a roll, pitching to a 2.45 ERA across 22 innings in his last four starts. However, Peralta wound up allowing double-digit hits for the second time this season as the Nationals cracked four extra-base hits -- three doubles and one homer. The 28-year-old finishes the first half with a 4.11 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 130:36 K:BB over 103 innings. He should line up to make his next start in the Brewers' first series after the All-Star break at Minnesota. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:17 pm
