• Goes deep in win
Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Friday's 9-1 win over the Rangers.

Advice: Rutschman stumbled into the All-Star break, going 5-for-40 (.125) with a 7:5 BB:K over his last 11 games. He made a quick impact in Texas with his first-inning homer, perhaps washing away his 0-for-2 performance in the All-Star Game in the same park. The catcher's season-long numbers have taken just a modest hit from his recent slump -- he now has a .275/.340/.447 slash line with 17 homers, 61 RBI, 49 runs scored, one stolen base and 12 doubles through 91 contests. • Tanner Scott grabs four-out save
Tanner Scott was perfect in 1 1/3 to earn the save against the Mets on Friday. He also struck out one batter.

Advice: Scott was called upon with two out, two on, and Francisco Lindor up in the eighth inning when the Marlins were up by just one run. He forced a pop-out and then worked a clean ninth inning to earn his 15th save. Any one could be his last though with the trade deadline looming and Scott likely being dealt to a contender. • Plays catch Friday
Betts (hand) played catch Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Betts previously had someone else catch the ball for him while he continued to keep his arm active, but Friday marked the first time he was able to catch balls himself using his fractured left hand. The Dodgers have yet to set a target return date for the 31-year-old, though there's still a chance he's able to rejoin the team in early August, at which point he may be used as a second baseman given Miguel Rojas' strong performance while filling in as Betts' replacement at shortstop. • Starting to play defense
Holliday (elbow) will begin playing partial games at second base for Triple-A Norfolk as part of his rehab progression, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports Friday.

Advice: Holliday has exclusively played DH since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list June 25 after experiencing right elbow inflammation earlier that month, so this is a good sign he's nearly 100 percent healthy. The Orioles' top prospect, Holliday has a .898 OPS at Norfolk through 312 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:42 pm
  • Nearing live BP
Rodriguez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo indicated the left-hander is likely to throw an additional bullpen session after that before progressing to live batting practice. Signed as a free agent in December, Rodriguez has been on the shelf all season due to a strained shoulder, and he'll likely require a multi-start rehab assignment before being cleared for his Arizona debut. • Cleared to begin rehab assignment
Alzolay (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with the Cubs' Arizona Complex League affiliate Friday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Alzolay has been on the shelf since mid-May with a right flexor strain but is ready for game action. The reliever will need many rehab appearances and will eventually move up to a higher affiliate, so he's likely still at least a couple weeks away from a return. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:11 am
  • Evan Carter (back) nearing rehab assignment
Evan Carter (back) progressed to running the bases on Thursday at Globe Life Field.

Advice: It’s typically the final hurdle to clear before a position player heads out for a minor league rehab assignment, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see Carter get into some rehab contests in the coming days. The 21-year-old former top prospect struggled out of the gate this season before hitting the injured list last month with a stress reaction in his back. He should be ready to return at some point in early August. Rotoworld Thursday, 7:46 pm

  • Plays full nine on defense
Ruiz (wrist) started in center field and played nine innings in the ACL Athletics' extra-inning loss to the ACL Brewers on Tuesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Advice: While Ruiz's hot streak at the plate during his rehab assignment was ironically snapped against a much lower caliber of competition than he normally faces, the fact the outfielder played a full game's worth of innings on defense is the main takeaway. After logging 21 plate appearances over five games down on the farm, Ruiz may be deemed ready for activation ahead of the Athletics' game of the second half Friday against the Angels. • Michael Harris II likely back in August
The Athletic’s David O’Brien reported that Michael Harris II (hamstring) is “likely returning by early August.”

Advice: The 23-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain on June 15th and is still working his way through baseball activities. Given the length of his absence, he will likely require a rehab assignment as well, which means it might be at least three weeks before Harris returns to the Braves lineup, in the best-case scenario.
