• Another rehab appearance
Castro (shoulder) threw 17 pitches in an appearance with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Castro will make another appearance Saturday, with the goal of throwing between 25 and 35 pitches. If that outing goes well, he could be activated for the start of Arizona's series against Atlanta. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:55 pm
  • Picks up seventh win
King (7-5) picked up the win Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks against the Rangers. He struck out five.

Advice: King held the Rangers scoreless through five, then was removed after allowing two batters to reach base with one out in the sixth, eventually resulting in one earned run against. It's the sixth time in his last eight starts that King has allowed one earned run or fewer and the 10th such outing this season. Over his last eight outings, King has tossed 44 innings with a 2.45 ERA and 53 strikeouts. His next opportunity to toe the rubber is scheduled to come at home against the Mariners next week. • Struggles versus Athletics
Contreras (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out one to take the loss versus the Athletics on Thursday.

Advice: Contreras lasted three frames in his previous start, also against Oakland, but he ran into trouble in the third inning Thursday. The right-hander has pitched to a 3.72 ERA and 1.29 WHIP over 19.1 innings across 11 appearances with the Angels, though none of those outings have been longer than three innings. He's started his last two games since the Angels lack few in-house options for their rotation. Overall, he's at a 4.04 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 32:18 K:BB through 35.2 innings between the Angels and the Pirates this year. If he receives another start, it's projected to be at home versus the Rangers early next week. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:19 pm
  • Robert Suarez quiets Rangers to collect 22nd save
Robert Suarez fired a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday against the Rangers to record his 22nd save of the season.

Advice: Suarez came on to face the bottom of the Rangers’ lineup in the final frame with a two-run lead in hand and immediately got into trouble by issuing a leadoff walk to rookie sensation Wyatt Langford. Fortunately, he was able to get Leody Taveras to ground into a fielder’s choice before striking out Travis Jankowski and coaxing a game-ending ground out from Jonah Heim. He’s converted a staggering 22 of 23 save opportunities this season and figures to be named to the senior circuit’s All-Star Game roster in the coming days. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:12 pm
  • Michael King shuts down Rangers over 5 1/3 in win
Michael King struck out five and allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Rangers.

Advice: King generated 13 swinging strikes, although just a pair of them came on his four-seam fastball, as he finished with a robust 34 percent CSW. A sixth-inning single from Wyatt Langford was responsible for the lone tally against him in a low-scoring pitcher’s duel at Globe Life Field. The 29-year-old former reliever will bring a strong 3.51 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 120/41 K/BB ratio across 105 innings (19 appearances, 18 starts) into a home outing on Wednesday against the Mariners in his final outing prior to the Midsummer Classic. • Greg Weissert picks up save against Marlins
Greg Weissert allowed an unearned run while picking up a save against the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: The run was the “zombie” runner that starts at second base to begin every inning after the ninth. That’s the first save of the season for Weissert, and being blunt, it’s very likely the last. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:49 pm
  • Kyle Tyler gives up two runs in no-decision vs. BOS
Kyle Tyler gave up two runs in 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Thursday.

Advice: Tyler gave up just three hits throughout the contest, and he walked two while fanning three. The right-hander gave up a run on a fielder’s choice in the first by Rafael Devers, and Devers grounded out again for a run in the sixth; this time after Tyler had left the game. The results have been fine for the 27-year-old since joining the Miami rotation, but there appears to be some smoke and mirrors to it without much swing-and-miss. It’d be a mistake to trust him as an option against the Astros next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:49 pm

  • Pivetta takes no hitter into seventh vs. Marlins
Nick Pivetta struck out 10 while allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings, but he didn’t pick up a decision against the Marlins on Thursday.

Advice: Pivetta took a no-no into the seventh inning, but he gave up his first hit with two outs in that frame on a triple to Jesus Sanchez. It was a dominating effort for the 31-year-old, and nice to see after a run of mediocre starts for the right-hander. It certainly helped that he was facing a well-below-average lineup in Miami, but Pivetta’s stuff would’ve beaten most Thursday. Unfortunately, the bullpen didn’t get the job done. Pivetta gets another favorable matchup on paper next week against the A’s. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:49 pm

  • Frankie Montas holds Yankees to two runs in victory
Frankie Montas gave up two runs over five innings to pick up a win over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Montas struck out four while walking three and allowing four hits. The right-hander held the Yankees scoreless for the first four frames before allowing a pair of homers in the fifth. The results have been much better as of late for Montas, and while he isn’t missing a ton of bats, he’s allowed no more than two runs in three-straight starts. He’s scheduled to face the Rockies on Tuesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:10 pm
