• Mendoza: Starling Marte (knee) to miss four weeks
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Starling Marte (knee) is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Advice: It’s a significant loss for the Mets as Marte finally landed on the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Yankees after playing through a right knee issue for an extended period. The 35-year-old veteran corner outfielder has been diagnosed with a bone bruise and Mendoza indicated that it’ll be at least one month before he’s ready to return. That updated timeline means he’ll be sidelined until at least after next month’s All-Star break, if not longer. Rotoworld Today, 1:08 pm

  • Lands on IL with knee bone bruise
The Mets placed Marte on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right knee bone bruise.

Advice: Marte was given the diagnosis following an MRI and has been prescribed 15 days of rest. The hope is that he will be able to ramp back up after that point, but with two weeks of no activities, a return before the All-Star break seems unlikely. DJ Stewart and Tyrone Taylor will likely be the primary beneficiaries of Marte's absence. Rotowire.com Today, 11:59 am

  • Mets place Starling Marte (knee) on 10-day IL
Mets placed OF Starling Marte on the 10-day injured list with a right knee bone bruise.

Advice: Marte picked up the knee injury Saturday against the Cubs, and he’s been told he needs to rest for at least 15 days before he can return to action. He could need a rehab assignment after, so Marte may not return until around the All-Star break. Ben Gamel is up to take Marte’s place on the roster. Rotoworld Today, 11:53 am

  • Heston Kjerstad collects two hits, doubles in loss
Heston Kjerstad went 2-for-4 with a double on Monday in the Orioles’ loss to the Guardians.

Advice: It’s time for Baltimore to figure out what they have with Kjerstad in an everyday role at this juncture since he literally has nothing left to prove at Triple-A Norfolk. The 25-year-old figures to get an opportunity to play most days against right-handed pitching in a corner outfield or designated hitter role and his minor-league track record suggests he’s going to hit for some over-the-fence pop. There might be an adjustment period here as he acclimates to facing high-level pitching everyday, but he’s one of the more talented hitting prospects in the game. It feels like only a matter of time before he’s an impact four-category fantasy contributor in the heart of Baltimore’s sublime young nucleus. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:27 pm

  • Starling Marte to go on IL with knee inflammation
Starling Marte has been told to rest for 15 days because of bone inflammation in his right knee.

Advice: Marte will surely go on the injured list Tuesday. That could lead to Brett Baty’s recall, but if the Mets would prefer to have both he and Mark Vientos keep playing every day, they do have an open spot on the 40-man to add an outfielder, probably Ben Gamel or Trayce Thompson. Tyrone Taylor and DJ Stewart will split time in right while Marte is out. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:17 pm

  • Likely headed to IL
Marte was advised Monday to rest for the next 15 days after being diagnosed with bone inflammation in his right knee, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Marte was sent for an MRI on Monday after experiencing soreness in his right knee, and while the team has yet to confirm that he'll be placed on the injured list, that transaction will likely be made Tuesday. Marte will likely be re-evaluated following the 15-day shutdown period to determine the next steps in his recovery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:05 pm

  • Daulton Varsho (back) could come off bench Monday
Daulton Varsho, who missed Sunday’s game with back tightness, is likely to be available off the bench Monday.

Advice: Varsho worked out on the field today, but the Blue Jays decided to hold him out initially, at least. They have Davis Schneider in left and Kevin Kiermaier in center tonight. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:23 pm

  • Remains out of lineup
Varsho (back) is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Boston.

Advice: Varsho tweaked his back on a swing in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Guardians and has now been out of the lineup for two straight contests. He's available off the bench, per Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic, seemingly giving him a good chance to return to the lineup Tuesday. Kevin Kiermaier will handle center field Monday while Varsho takes a seat. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:27 pm

  • Orioles officially promote Kjerstad from AAA
Orioles recalled 1B/OF Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: The rumored move is now official, as the Orioles promote Kjerstad - again - after hitting .301/.390/.601 with 16 homers, 58 RBI, and a pair of stolen bases in 55 games. The bad news for fantasy managers is that the Orioles did not demote Colton Cowser in a corresponding move, meaning the team would need to decide to sit Cowser on the bench and not give him at-bats for Kjerstad to see regular playing time. It would seem to make no sense for one of Kjerstad or Cowser to sit on a major league bench and not play regularly but that might be the situation we’re heading towards. Or they will both split time often enough that each of their fantasy values will take a considerable hit. We’ll have to see how it plays out this week before knowing for sure.
