    • Collects 15th hold
Barlow pitched a perfect inning to earn a hold in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals.

Advice: Barlow has given up six runs over his last seven innings, but he's also picked up seven holds over nine appearances in that span. He's been a little shaky all season, as evidenced by a middling 3.91 ERA to go with a 1.34 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB through 25.1 innings, but Barlow still leads the Guardians with 15 holds. He's maintained a setup role while adding one save and a 2-2 record, though Cade Smith and Hunter Gaddis have been more reliable parts of the bridge to closer Emmanuel Clase. • Red Sox may push back Kutter Crawford’s start
The Red Sox are looking at going with a bullpen game on Sunday and pushing Kutter Crawford’s next start back to Tuesday.

Advice: Bad news for those hoping Crawford would bounce back against the White Sox. He’ll instead face the Phillies if the Red Sox follow through on this, though at least he’d be doing so on six days’ rest instead of four. The Red Sox are off Monday, which makes the bullpen game a little more feasible. Rotoworld Wednesday, 8:45 am

    • Recent struggles continue
Ober (5-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on three hits, including a home run, and four walks over five innings against the Yankees. He struck out two.

Advice: Ober wasn't sharp against a Yankees lineup that is on a roll. The outing continued his recent struggles, as he has a 7.58 ERA with a 15:8 K:BB in his last 19 innings. Ober hasn't thrown more than five innings in any of his last four starts, making him a risky option in his next start, which lines up to come this weekend in Pittsburgh. • Kutter Crawford has another rough start in loss
Kutter Crawford allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits in six innings in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Advice: Crawford has now allowed 15 earned runs in 16 1/3 innings in his last three starts. However, those starts were also against the Brewers, Braves, and Orioles. He was never going to carry over the 1.75 ERA he had over his first eight starts, but he’s also not pitching as poorly of late as those earned runs totals would indicate. He induced 12 whiffs on 51 swings for a 24 percent whiff rate on the day and lines up for a much better start against the White Sox this weekend. He should still be rostered and started in almost all formats. Rotoworld Tuesday, 7:22 pm

    • Hit hard by Atlanta
Crawford (2-5) took the loss Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks across six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: The right-hander surrendered three extra-base hits Tuesday, which resulted in five of the six runs scored by Atlanta while Crawford was on the mound. Ozzie Albies and Jarred Kelenic came around to score after hitting doubles before Albies went yard on a three-run blast in the sixth inning. Tuesday's start was the latest in a rough patch for the 28-year-old Crawford, who's allowed four or more earned runs in four of his last five showings. During that span, Crawford is 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA across 28.0 innings. However, a road start against the White Sox on Sunday could be exactly what he needs to get back on track. • Bailey Ober struggles in loss to Yankees
Bailey Ober gave up three runs over five innings on Tuesday in a loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Ober was tagged for just three hits over five frames, but a solo homer from Gleyber Torres and two-run double by Aaron Judge were enough to saddle him with a loss in a matchup against Yankees emerging start Luis Gil. He finished with a pair of strikeouts and also issued four walks. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.94 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60/16 K/BB ratio across 62 innings (12 starts) into a road matchup on Sunday against the Pirates. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:40 pm

    • Tommy John surgery scheduled
Javier (forearm) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The right-hander landed on the injured list in late May due to right forearm discomfort and is now set to miss the rest of the 2024 campaign. Javier will also be sidelined until at least the second half of 2025 as he rehabs from the surgery. It's been a rough week for Houston pitchers, as Jose Urquidy (elbow) is also in danger of needing the procedure. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:47 pm

    • Cristian Javier to undergo Tommy John surgery
The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports Cristian Javier will undergo Tommy John surgery.

Advice: It’s a significant hit to Houston’s already razor-thin starting pitching depth as Javier has been a mainstay in their starting rotation for the last three seasons and boasts a stellar 3.59 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 27 percent strikeout rate over 501 innings (116 appearances, 82 starts) in the majors since 2020. Given the timing of the procedure, he’s likely to miss the overwhelming majority of the 2025 campaign as well. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:46 pm

    • Earns ninth save
Hader earned a save against the Cardinals on Monday, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: Entering with a 7-4 lead in the ninth inning, Hader needed only 14 pitches to secure his ninth save of the season. Hader has only allowed one run over his past 11 appearances and is now 9-for-10 in save attempts in 2024. He currently owns a 3.54 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 28 innings.
