    • Marlins officially designate Anderson for assignment
Marlins designated SS Tim Anderson for assignment.

Advice: Anderson is now off the active and 40-man roster. Assuming he goes unclaimed or untraded, he could either report to Triple-A Jacksonville or elect free agency. It’s likely that free agency will be the play, and Miami could just choose to release him rather than give him the option. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:10 pm

    • Rejoins roster
The Reds activated Stephenson (personal) from the family medical emergency list Tuesday.

Advice: Stephenson was away from the club for a few days following the birth of his child but is back for the start of its series in New York against the Yankees. Austin Wynns was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:51 am
    • Report: Anderson to be designated for assignment
Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports that the Marlins intend to designate Tim Anderson for assignment.

Advice: Xavier Edwards will be brought up to take Anderson’s place on the roster. The 31-year-old was brought in by Miami in hopes that he could find the hit tool that made him one of the better infielders in baseball not long ago. He did not as seen in a .214 average, .463 OPS and 68 strikeouts in 234 at-bats. The Marlins will look to trade Anderson or see him potentially claimed off the waiver wire, but it seems unlikely he would report to Triple-A if neither of those things happen. It seems that Anderson’s days of being a fantasy helper could be over. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:39 am

    • Designated for assignment
The Marlins designated Anderson for assignment Tuesday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Advice: Miami giving Anderson a modest one-year, $5 million contract in hopes that he could have a bounce-back season seemed like a no-brainer. The rebound didn't come, as Anderson slashed a hideous .214/.237/.226 with no home runs and a 68:7 K:BB over 65 games. He will clear waivers and eventually be released, at which point another club could take a chance on him at the prorated veteran minimum salary. It's no given that Anderson will receive that opportunity, however, considering his .544 OPS since the start of the 2023 campaign. Vidal Brujan could get a shot at shortstop for the Marlins with Anderson out of the picture, with Xavier Edwards also potentially in the mix. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:38 am

    • Wasn't available to pinch hit
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Guerrero (finger) wasn't available to pinch hit Monday versus the Astros after being a late scratch from the lineup, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was initially in Monday's lineup but had to be scratched after he "wasn't comfortable squeezing the bat" pregame, per Schneider. The fourth and fifth fingers on his right hand remain swollen as a result of a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's game against the Yankees. Guerrero will attempt to swing a bat again Tuesday before it's decided whether he can return to the lineup. Rotowire.com Monday, 3:38 pm

    • Transferred to emergency list
The Reds transferred Stephenson (personal) from the paternity list to the family medical emergency list Monday.

Advice: Stephenson had been away for the last three games while on the paternity list. By rule, players can miss 3-to-7 days while on the family medical emergency list, whereas he would have to be activated ahead of Tuesday's game against the Yankees had he remained on the paternity list. Luke Maile and Austin Wynns will handle catching duties for Cincinnati while Stephenson is away. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:06 pm
    • Vlad Jr. (finger) scratched from Monday’s lineup
Blue Jays removed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) from the starting lineup on Monday.

Advice: Guerrero Jr. was hit by a pitch in the hand yesterday and seemed confident he’d be able to play, but the Blue Jays are pulling him from the lineup with “Right 4th/5th finger discomfort.” It’s likely that his hand just didn’t feel up to the task after batting practice, but it doesn’t seem like a situation that will keep him out too long. Spencer Horwitz will play first base in his absence. Rotoworld Monday, 12:48 pm

    • Nightengale: Rival execs say Alonso is staying put
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival team execs believe it’s more likely that Pete Alonso is not traded at the deadline.

Advice: Nightengale mentioned that “rival teams who have expressed interest” in Alonso are “convinced” he will “definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race.” As of now, the Mets are just two games back and are 12-4 over their last 16 games. If the Mets do keep Alonso beyond the trade deadline, they will need to then decide how badly they want to extend him, but it would take one of the biggest power bats off the trade block this season. • Scratched from lineup
Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros due to right fourth/fifth finger discomfort, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees and was ultimately removed from the contest in the bottom of the eighth. While he was initially slated to play Monday in the series opener versus the Astros, some lingering soreness will ultimately prevent him from doing so. X-rays on the hand returned negative, and Guerrero is considered day-to-day. Ernie Clement will enter the lineup as a replacement for Guerrero, manning third base and batting ninth.
