    • Jake Fraley (calf) remains out of Reds’ lineup
Jake Fraley (calf) remains out of the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals.

Advice: The 29-year-old outfielder was held out of Thursday’s lineup due to a calf injury. He underwent an MRI exam to determine the severity of the issue, the results of which are not yet known. It’s at least encouraging to hear that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list — at least as of now. The Reds will trot out an outfield of Nick Martini, Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild on Friday evening. Rotoworld Friday, 1:07 pm
    • Kyle Schwarber goes on 10-day IL with groin strain
Phillies placed DH Kyle Schwarber on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain.

Advice: With Schwarber out, the Phillies have Bryson Stott leading off and Nick Castellanos DHing tonight. Whit Merrifield is playing left field, with Brandon Marsh suffered to right. It could be a common arrangement until Schwarber gets back. The Phillies are hoping he’ll miss the minimum 10 days, though they could always be cautious and hold him out through the break. • Report: Kyle Schwarber to go on IL due to groin
The Phillies are planning to put Kyle Schwarber on the IL with what they’re terming a mild groin strain.

Advice: They’re hopeful he’ll return after 10 days. Darick Hall could be the callup in Schwarber’s place, but he’s had a disappointing season in Triple-A. Whit Merrifield figures to get some chance to prove his worth while Schwarber is out; if he doesn’t pick it up, he could be bounced from the Phillies roster after the break. • Sent to IL
Schwarber was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a mild left groin strain, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Schwarber was lifted from Thursday's game due to groin tightness, but further evaluation revealed he's battling a strain. While the DH will be shelved for at least 10 days, there's optimism Schwarber will be able to return when first eligible. With Bryce Harper (hamstring) also on the IL, Nick Castellanos and David Dahl could see more DH work. Rotowire.com Friday, 11:26 am

    • Dominant in tough-luck defeat
Sale (10-3) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over seven innings against the White Sox. He struck out 11.

Advice: Sale dominated his former team, with a first-inning homer by Luis Robert marking the only blemish to his stellar outing. However, the bats failed to provide any support for Sale, and Atlanta suffered its third shutout loss of the season with each occurring within the month of June. Following an inexplicable blip June 1 when he allowed eight runs to the hapless Athletics, Sale has rebounded over the last four games by allowing a total of six earned runs over 26 innings, giving him an ERA of 2.08 with a 0.85 WHIP and 36 strikeouts during that stretch. His next start is tentatively scheduled to take place in the middle of next week, when Atlanta plays host to the Giants. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:06 am

    • Posts another big performance
Mullins went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, an additional run and a double in an 11-2 win over the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: Mullins belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give Baltimore an 8-1 lead. It was his second long ball in as many games, and the outfielder finished with his sixth multi-hit effort over his past eight contests. Over that stretch, Mullins is batting a scorching .452 with three home runs, six RBI, nine runs and three stolen bases. Rotowire.com Thursday, 11:00 pm

    • Kyle Schwarber leaves game with groin tightness
Kyle Schwarber was removed from Thursday’s game against the Marlins due to left groin tightness.

Advice: There should be an additional update regarding the severity of the issue at some point following Thursday’s contest, but it sounds like his early exit was merely for precautionary reasons. The 31-year-old slugger was 1-for-4 with a single before leaving the game in the top of the ninth inning. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Thursday, 6:06 pm

    • Sale strikes out 11 in hard-luck loss to former team
Chris Sale struck out 11 over seven innings of one-run baseball, but picked up a loss Thursday as the White Sox beat Atlanta 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Advice: Sale was facing his former team in the White Sox, and while he gets credited for the loss, it was a dominant effort for the 35-year-old. The only blemish came when he gave up a solo homer to Luis Robert Jr. in the first, and he allowed just three more hits while missing plenty of bats. It’s the third time Sale has picked up double-digit strikeouts — the 11 are a season high — and he’s now the owner of a 2.79 ERA and 118/17 K/BB over 15 starts. He gets the Giants next.
