    • Carves up Pirates in victory
Morton (5-4) earned the win Friday against Pittsburgh, throwing 6.1 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed three hits and one walk.

Advice: The 40-year-old looked sharp over a 104-pitch outing, generating 15 whiffs -- including seven on his curveball alone -- to collect seven punchouts. Morton wrapped a successful June, firing a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 28:13 K:BB across 29 innings. The Atlanta right-hander is slated to face the Giants at home in his next start. • Charlie Morton excellent against Pirates in win
Charlie Morton held the Pirates scoreless through 6 1/3 innings on Friday in a 6-1 win. He struck out seven and walked one.

Advice: Morton made his old team pay on Friday night as he dropped curveball after curveball on Pittsburgh’s lineup. This was also the first time Morton walked one or fewer since May 10th against the Mets (pre-Grimace) as he flashed especially good command with his sparsely thrown cutter. • Expected to play Saturday
Fraley (calf) is expected to be back in the lineup Saturday at St. Louis, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Fraley has missed two consecutive contests with a right calf contusion, but he's on track to return Saturday. Santiago Espinal has drawn the start at DH in Fraley's place. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:47 pm

    • Padres transfer Joe Musgrove to 60-day IL
Padres transferred RHP Joe Musgrove to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Nothing has changed in the prognosis for the 31-year-old hurler, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Austin Davis to join the bullpen on Friday. Musgrove continues to recover from a bone spur in his right elbow and has been throwing off of flat ground in recent days. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:15 pm

    • Moved to 60-day IL
Musgrove (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Transferring Musgrove to the 60-day IL opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for Austin Davis, who'll join the big-league roster. Though Musgrove began playing catch Monday, he still has plenty of checkpoints to hi before being cleared and likely won't be back in action until after the All-Star break. • Remaining out of lineup
Fraley (calf) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: With no MRI results reported yet for Fraley, he'll remain out of the lineup as Cincinnati opens up its series against St. Louis. Santiago Espinal will again start at designated hitter and bat sixth. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:10 pm

    • Jake Fraley (calf) remains out of Reds’ lineup
Jake Fraley (calf) remains out of the Reds’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals.

Advice: The 29-year-old outfielder was held out of Thursday’s lineup due to a calf injury. He underwent an MRI exam to determine the severity of the issue, the results of which are not yet known. It’s at least encouraging to hear that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list — at least as of now. The Reds will trot out an outfield of Nick Martini, Will Benson and Stuart Fairchild on Friday evening. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:07 pm

    • Kyle Schwarber goes on 10-day IL with groin strain
Phillies placed DH Kyle Schwarber on the 10-day IL with a left groin strain.

Advice: With Schwarber out, the Phillies have Bryson Stott leading off and Nick Castellanos DHing tonight. Whit Merrifield is playing left field, with Brandon Marsh suffered to right. It could be a common arrangement until Schwarber gets back. The Phillies are hoping he’ll miss the minimum 10 days, though they could always be cautious and hold him out through the break. • Report: Kyle Schwarber to go on IL due to groin
The Phillies are planning to put Kyle Schwarber on the IL with what they’re terming a mild groin strain.

Advice: They’re hopeful he’ll return after 10 days. Darick Hall could be the callup in Schwarber’s place, but he’s had a disappointing season in Triple-A. Whit Merrifield figures to get some chance to prove his worth while Schwarber is out; if he doesn’t pick it up, he could be bounced from the Phillies roster after the break.
