    • Logs second rehab outing
Kelly (shoulder) tossed one scoreless inning, during which he allowed a hit and a walk while striking out one batter, in a rehab appearance with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday.

Advice: Kelly had a bit of trouble finding the strike zone -- seven of his 13 pitches were balls -- and he allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base via a single and a walk. However, the veteran reliever followed with a strikeout before inducing an inning-ending double play to escape without allowing any runs. Kelly has tossed two scoreless frames through two rehab outings with the Single-A Quakes. It's not clear how many more minor-league appearances he'll be asked to make before being activated from the injured list, but there appears to be a good chance that he'll be back in Los Angeles' bullpen before the All-Star break. • Edwin Díaz finishes serving 10-game suspension
Mets activated RHP Edwin Díaz from the restricted list.

Advice: Díaz has finished serving an automatic 10-game suspension handed down by the league after he was ejected back on June 23 for using an illegal foreign substance. The 30-year-old will be back in New York’s bullpen for Saturday’s contest against the Pirates. According to Newsday’s Tim Healey, the Mets’ bullpen recorded a league-worst 8.37 ERA during his absence. Needless to say, his return is going to make a significant impact, even if he’s not back to best closer in the universe status. Rotoworld Today, 8:48 am
    • Ben Brown (neck) making gradual progress
Ben Brown (neck) is scheduled to play catch on Saturday.

Advice: Brown hit the injured list back in mid-June with a neck strain and has been slowly progressing towards a return to Chicago’s starting rotation. There isn’t a definitive timetable yet, but the fact that he’s been throwing for at least a week now without any setbacks is an encouraging sign. Rotoworld Today, 8:31 am

    • Javier Assad (forearm) completes bullpen session
Javier Assad (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Friday.

Advice: Assad landed on the injured list last week with a right forearm strain, so it’s an extremely encouraging sign that he came out of Friday’s side session without any issues. The 26-year-old righty might be able to jump right back into Chicago’s starting rotation mix without requiring a minor league rehab assignment. Rotoworld Today, 8:29 am

    • Rehab assignment imminent
Stripling (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Saturday and then head out to Single-A Stockton to start a rehab assignment Tuesday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Saturday's bullpen session is the final benchmark for Stripling to clear before a return to game action for the first time since May 24. Stripling is expected to start Stockton's game Tuesday and projected to throw up to 35 pitches. If the outing goes well, he'll be bumped up to Triple-A Las Vegas for his next rehab start or appearance Sunday, July 14. Rotowire.com Today, 8:28 am

    • Recalled to majors
The Astros recalled Ort from Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Since being claimed off waivers from Baltimore in May, Ort has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings with Sugar Land while striking out 17 batters and walking four. His dominant performance has now earned him another shot in the majors, and he figures to work in middle relief while with the Astros. Luis Contreras was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move. • Astros add Kaleb Ort to bullpen mix on Saturday
Astros recalled RHP Kaleb Ort from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: Ort was claimed off waivers from the Orioles back in late May and will get his first look in Houston’s bullpen after spending a couple weeks in the minors. The 32-year-old righty made 47 appearances in the majors for the Red Sox from 2021 to 2023. Rotoworld Today, 8:27 am

    • Astros option Luis Contreras back to Triple-A
Astros optioned RHP Luis Contreras to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Advice: Contreras heads back to the minors to enable the Astros to bring up a fresh arm for the rest of their weekend series against the red-hot Twins. The 28-year-old rookie right-hander allowed six runs on seven hits with a 6/2 K/BB ratio across six innings (five appearances) this season in his first taste of the big leagues. • Optioned to Triple-A
The Astros optioned Contreras to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Contreras had cruised through 4.1 scoreless innings through his first four MLB appearances, but he'll now be sent back to Triple-A after allowing six earned runs in just 1.2 frames Friday. It's possible he returns to Houston if he gets back to putting up numbers similar to his 1.40 ERA in Triple-A, but for now the Astros will call up Kaleb Ort to replace Contreras in the bullpen.
