      Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters after Saturday’s game that Daulton Varsho has been dealing with some tightness in his lower back and will be held out of the team’s starting lineup on Sunday.

      Advice: The 27-year-old played the entire game on Saturday but reported to his manager afterwards that his back had tightened up on him. It doesn’t sound like anything that should lead to any sort of extended absence and there’s even a possibility that Varsho could be available to pinch-hit off the bench on Sunday.       Varsho experienced back tightness late in Saturday's game against the Guardians and will be given the day off for Sunday's series finale, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

      Advice: Varsho grounded out in the ninth inning but never made it out of the batters box, immediately grabbing at his lower back after making contact.     • Castellanos belts 11th home run in win Saturday
      Nick Castellanos went 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

      Advice: Castellanos’ home run was his 11th of the season and went so far he started removing his protective elbow pad before he even exited the batter’s box. In all, he had a sacrifice fly, two-run home run and two-run double. Castellanos has struggled this season with a .225 average and .672 OPS, but the Phillies lineup still provides opportunities to drive in runs as he now has 37 RBI on the year.       Yordan Alvarez hit a two-run homer to help the Astros defeat the Orioles on Saturday.

      Advice: Alvarez hit his 16th homer of the season when he connected on an offering from Corbin Burnes. The pair of RBI gives the 26-year-old slugger 41 on the season.       Oneil Cruz went 1-for-3 with two runs scored, a walk and a solo home run against the Rays on Saturday.



      Advice: Cruz’ home run was his 10th of the year. The solo shot came against Rays starter Zach Eflin in the first inning with two outs. It was Cruz’ first home run since June 8th. While he hits the ball hard when he connects, Cruz’ 32 percent strikeout percentage is still quite high. Maybe he’ll get his power stroke going in the second half of the year to help prop up all the strikeouts.

    • Oneil Cruz homers, scores twice in win over Rays
      Oneil Cruz homered and scored two runs in a 4-2 win for the Pirates on Saturday.

      Advice: Cruz obliterated a Zack Eflin pitch for a 445-foot dinger to tie the game at 1-1 in the first. The 25-year-old also drew a walk and came around to score a few batters later. There are going to be ups and downs with Cruz, but the power is obviously legitimate, and helps mitigate some of the contact issues. Rotoworld Today, 3:16 pm
