      Advice: Alvarez was a constant thorn in Toronto's side in the contest. He plated Houston's first run with a third-inning double, added a tiebreaking solo shot in the sixth inning and produced another RBI with a double in the eighth.       Gavin Stone allowed four runs with three strikeouts over three innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

      Advice: This wasn’t one Stone’s best outings as the Diamondbacks chased him after just three frames. A base hit and two walks loaded the bases before the Diamondbacks brought a run in on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He worked around a bases-loaded jam in the second, then gave up three runs, including a two-run blast by Gabriel Moreno, in the third. That was it for Stone, ending his day with a 3.03 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 73/28 K/BB ratio across 92 innings. He’ll take on the Phillies in Philadelphia on Tuesday.       Advice: Sale has allowed just one run in each of his last three starts, though he was unlucky to come away with just two wins in that span. His 11 wins rank first in the National League, and Sale is tied with Kansas City's Seth Lugo for the major-league lead. Sale is now at a 2.71 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 127:19 K:BB through 99.2 innings over 16 starts this season. The southpaw's next start is projected to be on the road in Arizona.       Blake Snell delivered a dominant performance in his final minor league rehab start at Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday, piling up nine strikeouts over five scoreless frames.

      Advice: The reigning National League Cy Young award winner didn’t allow a hit in the contest, allowing just one base on balls. Snell got up to 67 pitches (46 strikes) in this one, cruising through his five innings. As long as he checks out fine physically, expect him to rejoin the Giants’ rotation next week.       Yordan Alvarez went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk in the Astros’ 9-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

      Advice: Alvarez came into this game ready for Yusei Kikuchi’s fastball and twice put first pitch fastballs in play, once for a homer, and also worked a long at-bat that wound up in a double also off that same fastball.       Daulton Varsho went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Wednesday against the Astros.

      Advice: The Blue Jays once again shook up their lineup and Varsho landed in the fifth spot with George Springer back to lead-off and Bo Bichette fourth. Regardless, it still could not spark their struggling offense. Varsho briefly got his average back above the Mendoza-line before it sunk back to .199.     • Chris Sale’s dominance continues against Giants
      Chris Sale struck out nine batters across six innings in a 3-1 win over the Giants on Wednesday while allowing just one run. He walked two batters and earned his league-leading 11th win of the season.

      Advice: Once again, Sale was magnificent in this start. The Giants were helpless against his vaunted slider as it earned five swings-and-misses and an additional 12 called strikes. He was ahead in the count all night and showed a willingness to use that slider in whatever count he needed it. His 11th win tied Seth Lugo for the league lead and he could be well on his way to his first Cy Young award at 35-years-old. What a remarkable season it’s been for Sale.     • Oneil Cruz delivers walk-off hit to beat Cardinals
      Oneil Cruz delivered a game-winning single in the 10th inning on Wednesday, leading the Pirates to a 5-4 walk-off victory over the Cardinals.

      Advice: Cruz followed Bryan Reynolds’ game-tying single in the bottom of the 10th-inning by scalding a 106-mph line-drive to right field off Cardinals reliever JoJo Romero that sent the Pirates faithful home in walk-off fashion. The 25-year-old shortstop recorded an impressive three batted ball events in the extra-inning marathon with exit velocities over 106 mph. There have been some considerable ups and down this season for Cruz, which isn’t totally unexpected after missing nearly all of last year due to a serious leg injury, but he’s had some extremely promising moments.
