    • Takes tough-luck loss
Blanco (9-4) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts across six innings.

Advice: All the damage against Blanco came in the first inning, when Josh Smith launched a two-run home run. However, the Astros managed to score only one run until the ninth inning, sticking Blanco with the loss despite logging a quality start. The 30-year-old has been outstanding this season, owning a 2.56 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over 109.0 innings at the All-Star break. Before 2024, Blanco had a career 4.78 ERA in 58.1 innings and had primarily been utilized out of the bullpen, making him one of baseball's biggest breakouts so far. • Carries Texas to win
Smith went 2-for-4 with two two-run home runs during Sunday's 4-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: As a team, the Rangers logged only three hits Sunday. Two of those came off Smith's bat, and each wound up in the stands for the 26-year-old's first career multi-homer game. During his last 11 games, Smith is batting 13-for-40 (.325) with three homers, seven runs scored, eight RBI and a stolen base. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:21 pm

    • Picks up sixth win
Walker (6-3) retired both batters he faced and earned the win Sunday over the Twins.

Advice: Walker was called on for damage control after Camilo Doval blew a save chance. Walker got Willi Castro to ground out and Brooks Lee to fly out, keeping the game tied at 2-2 before Mike Yastrzemski tripled and scored on an error to win it for the Giants. Aside from a three-run stumble versus the Blue Jays on Tuesday, Walker continues to be quite steady in a high-leverage role. He's at a 2.32 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 62:10 K:BB through 50.1 innings while adding 17 holds and two blown saves this season. While reliever wins can be tricky to project, Walker's steady ratios, high strikeout rate and setup duties make him a reliable option for fantasy managers. Rotowire.com Sunday, 4:52 pm

    • Josh Smith carries Rangers with two home runs
Josh Smith went 2-for-4 with two two-run homers in a 4-2 win over the Astros.

Advice: Smith was the Rangers’ offense in this one. His first inning home run produced their only runs, only hard-hit ball, and one of just two hits in total off Astros’ starter Ronel Blanco. Then his eighth inning long ball gave Texas their only insurance. Smith has been one of the surprise performers of the first half with 10 homers, five stolen bases, and an .861 OPS. • Ronel Blanco tough luck loser against Rangers
Ronel Blanco allowed two hits and two earned runs across six innings on Sunday against the Rangers. He struck out five and walked two in defeat.

Advice: Blanco made precisely one mistake in this game: a 3-0 fastball to Josh Smith that got a little bit too much plate and left the yard. Otherwise, the Rangers had just one more hit and zero hard hit balls off Blanco. His slider forced an astounding 12 swings-and-misses as his primary pitch and he heads into the All-Star break with 11 quality starts, a 2.96 ERA, and 0.97 WHIP. Rotoworld Sunday, 1:51 pm

    • Falls to Friars
Lopez (7-3) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs on 11 hits over six innings as Atlanta was downed 4-0 by the Padres. He struck out two without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander didn't give up a lot of hard contact, as nine of the 11 hits were singles and the other two were well-placed doubles, but it was still a season high in knocks allowed for Lopez. It's his first loss since May 25, snapping a seven-start stretch in which he'd gone 5-0 with a 1.64 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB through 38.1 innings. Fatigue could be creeping in for the converted reliever, as his 95.2 innings on the year are already his highest total since 2019, but he may not get much of a rest over the break after earning an All-Star Game berth for the first time in his career. • Connor Wong sitting again Sunday vs. Royals
Connor Wong is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Royals.

Advice: Wong will sit for a second consecutive game to end the first half of the campaign. Reese McGuire will hit eighth and handle catching duties against Brady Singer and Kansas City while Wong gets another breather. Rotoworld Sunday, 6:52 am
    • Getting rest Sunday
Wong is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: Wong will get two straight days off to close out the Red Sox's pre-All-Star-break schedule, as Reese McGuire gets another nod behind the plate in the series finale. Despite his limited usage this weekend, Wong remains entrenched atop the depth chart at catcher after producing a .309 batting average and .812 OPS through 269 plate appearances on the season. • Steal, run scored in win
Smith went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base, a caught stealing and a run scored in Saturday's 2-1 extra-inning win over Houston.

Advice: Smith scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning as the automatic runner and stole his first base in 29 games. The theft was his fifth (in six attempts), a new career high in the majors. Smith was also hit by a pitch for the 15th time this season, most in MLB. Rotowire.com Sunday, 6:41 am
