• Cooper Criswell gets first MLB win as starter
Cooper Criswell blanked the Guardians for five innings Wednesday to earn his first major league victory as a starter.

Advice: Criswell did have one previous win as a reliever. The 27-year-old was 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in his three career starts. He succeeded tonight even though his hardest pitch checked in at 90.1 mph. What he does have is very good command and ample movement on his cutter and changeup. It won’t be enough to make him much more than a fifth starter, but he’s looking like a nice find for the Red Sox. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago

  • Joel Payamps slams door on Pirates on Wednesday
Joel Payamps slammed the door on the Pirates on Wednesday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a one-run lead and earn his fourth save of the season.

Advice: It wasn’t as easy as it could have been, as two hitters reached via error in his inning of work. Payamps was able to bear down though, getting Jared Triolo to line out and Andrew McCutchen on strikes to end it. While the Brewers are set to mix and match in the ninth inning in the absence of Devin Williams, Payamps does seem to be gaining traction in that role. Trevor Megill pitched the eighth inning on Wednesday, working a perfect frame with a strikeout. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago
  • Bryse Wilson strikes out three in no-decision
Bryce Wilson wasn’t overly impressive in a no-decision against the Pirates on Wednesday, giving up a pair of runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings.

Advice: The 26-year-old right-hander also issued three free passes while striking out three batters on the night. All of the damage done against him came on one mighty swing of the bat by Bryan Reynolds in the third inning. He was pulled with a man on and one out in the fifth inning, just two outs from qualifying for a victory. Wilson got just five whiffs on 75 pitches on the night, posting an underwhelming CSW of 23 percent. He now holds a 3.50 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 15/5 K/BB ratio over 18 innings on the season. He’ll do battle against the Rays his next time out at home on Monday. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago

  • Josh Fleming gives up two unearned runs as opener
Josh Fleming pitched decently as an opener against the Brewers on Wednesday, giving up a pair of unearned runs on one hit over 2 1/3 innings.

Advice: The 27-year-old left-hander walked two batters while recording only one strikeout on the night. All of the damage came in his final inning of work, as Sal Frelick reached on an error to start the inning and Fleming issued a one-out walk before exiting. Both runs ultimately came around to score against the Pirates’ bullpen. For the season, he now sports a stellar 1.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and an 8/5 K/BB ratio across 12 2/3 innings of work. • Alec Marsh leaves start with forearm contusion
Alec Marsh was removed from Wednesday’s start against the Blue Jays with a right forearm contusion.

Advice: Marsh was drilled by a 94-mph line drive off the bat of Addison Barger in the fifth inning, which prompted his removal from the game. He’ll likely undergo additional testing just to be sure there’s nothing wrong structurally. It’s probably going to take a couple of days to determine whether or not he’ll be able to make his next scheduled start. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

  • Chase Anderson to start for Red Sox on Thursday
Chase Anderson will start for the Red Sox on Thursday against the Guardians.

Advice: The Red Sox are in a tough spot with Brayan Bello heading to the injured list and need to scramble to fill his spot in the starting rotation. Anderson has been used in a multi-inning role out of the bullpen, but he has thrown 25 or fewer pitches in each of his last four outings. Don’t expect him to work more than two or three innings before passing the baton on Thursday. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago

  • Exits with injury
Marsh was removed from his start Wednesday versus Toronto after getting hit by a comebacker, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Marsh took a 94-mph line drive off his right forearm during the fifth inning and looked to be in a considerable amount of pain before leaving the game with trainers. The Royals will take a closer look at him and should offer an update on his status after Wednesday's game. The 25-year-old righty pitched 4.1 innings of shutout ball before exiting. • Rangers claim Kolton Ingram off of waivers
Rangers claimed LHP Kolton Ingram off of waivers from the Mets.

Advice: The Mets were the latest team to try to slip the 27-year-old southpaw through waivers unclaimed, but once again someone was willing to take a flier on him. Ingram posted a 7.20 ERA, 2.20 WHIP and a 3/6 K/BB ratio across five innings at Triple-A Syracuse. Rotoworld 52 minutes ago
  • Ian Gibaut (forearm) resumes rehab assignment
Ian Gibaut (forearm) resumed his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.

Advice: The 30-year-old right-hander had been working his way back from a forearm strain that he suffered early in spring training, but he was pulled off of the rehab assignment in mid-April after suffering a minor setback. It’s good to hear that he’s back on the mound and trending in the right direction now though. If all goes according to plan, he could be an option for the Reds in a week or two.
