      J.D. Martinez stayed hot with his second homer and fourth extra-base hit in five games for the Mets on Wednesday in their loss to the Phillies.

      Advice: Martinez has shrugged off a sluggish start to his season. He’s hitting .350 since last Saturday with his six hardest balls of the season coming in that span. The Mets’ offense is scuffling now, but Martinez should have plenty of run producing opportunities this season hitting behind Brandon Nimmo, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor.     • Michael King hit hard in loss to Rockies
      Michael King was hit hard in Wednesday afternoon’s loss to the Rockies, surrendering six runs on eight hits across his 5 1/3 innings of work.

      Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, King racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while issuing just two free passes. The Rockies scored three times in the second inning — including a solo blast by Brenton Doyle — then tacked on two more in the third. King settled in nicely afterwards though and kept them at bay until the sixth, where he exited after allowing single that eventually came around to score. King got 14 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the afternoon while registering a CSW of 33 percent. With extreme inconsistency on the season, he now sports a 4.31 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and a 60/26 K/BB ratio over 54 innings through his first 10 appearances (nine starts).       Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

      Advice: After Jordan Westburg led off the ninth with an infield hit, Rustchman launched a deep fly ball off Jordan Romano that just cleared the right-field fence, giving the Orioles a 3-2 walk-off victory. Rutschman's now homered in three straight games, totaling four long balls in that span.       The Rangers transferred Scherzer (back/arm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

      Advice: Scherzer surprisingly avoided the 60-day IL to begin the season after the Rangers were encouraged enough by his recovery from his Dec. 15 back surgery during spring training to keep the door open for him to make his 2024 debut before May 27. Though Scherzer remained on track to meet the Rangers' goal as recently as a few weeks ago, it became clear that his absence would extend into June after he dealt with a thumb issue coming out of his first rehab start April 24 with Triple-A Round Rock. He hasn't been able to do much activity ever since, but he'll play light catch Wednesday while he contends with a nerve issue in addition to ramping back up from his herniated disc surgery. Fortunately for Scherzer, Jeff Wilson of RangersToday.com relays that the right-hander has had MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck that all returned clean, so the nerve problem is believed to be something that he'll be able to manage.       Advice: Scherzer is dealing with a nerve problem which has affected his throwing arm. He was given a cortisone injection in his right thumb to combat the issue, but it's something he might just have to learn to pitch through. Scherzer revealed that he underwent MRIs on his triceps, elbow and neck to make sure there wasn't something else going on, and all of those tests came back negative. The righty had begun a rehab assignment last month, but he's been shut down for a couple weeks with the nerve issue. Scherzer initially went on the IL after offseaon back surgery.       Adley Rutschman hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Orioles a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

      Advice: It was a towering blast, but it traveled only 345 feet, and a fan interfered with the ball over the fence, though it was correctly decided that it would have been a homer anyway. Statcast said it would have left nine of the 30 ballparks. It was Rutschman’s second career walkoff homer. He has four homers in his last three games after totaling five in his first 37.
