Advice: Alex Guerrero and Alberto Callaspo will continue to hold down the fort at the hot corner until Turner is ready to return. He's in the midst of an outstanding season offensively, slashing .323/.387/.563 with 13 homers and 44 RBI in just 254 at-bats. Today, 3:55 pm

  • Joe Panik (back) returns to Giants' lineup
Joe Panik (back) is back in the Giants' lineup Friday.

Advice: Panik missed a couple games with a stiff back. He returns to a .309/.375/.440 batting line. Today, 12:28 pm
  • Hanley Ramirez (shin) not in lineup Friday
Hanley Ramirez (shin) is not in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

  • Marlins activate, then release Jeff Baker
Marlins activated INF Jeff Baker from the 15-day disabled list; released hmi.

Advice: Baker is apparently over his intercostal strain but is now looking for a new job. The 34-year-old has hit only .208/.288/.375 this season, but he's been a big weapon versus lefties in the past so someone figures to take a shot on him. Today, 11:40 am

  • Eddie Rosario homers, triples, doubles
Eddie Rosario missed the cycle by a single, knocked in three runs and scored three runs Thursday as the Twins beat the Mariners 9-5.

Advice: Rosario was hitting .272/.296/.396 a week ago. Eight extra-base hits in five games have changed that in a hurry, pushing him up to .294/.316/.462. One would think his lack of plate discipline will catch up to him at some point, but even if that happens, his defense in left field will help him stay in the lineup. Yesterday, 10:20 pm
  • Lindor batting .329 in his last 18 games
Francisco Lindor went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the A's.

Advice: The rookie shortstop had a three-run homer and four RBI in his last game, Wednesday against the Royals. His fireworks weren't as bright tonight, but this was another promising showing by Lindor, who is really heating up. He's hit safely in 15 of his last 18 games to raise his average from .205 to .264. During that stretch, he's gone 25-for-76 (.329) with 11 runs, 13 RBI, four homers and a .358 OBP. Yesterday, 9:44 pm
  • D.J. LeMahieu goes 3-for-4 against Cards
D.J. LeMahieu went 3-for-4 on Thursday, raising his average to .325.

Advice: That's three three-hit games in four days for the NL All-Star. Still, LeMahieu's value is down since the start of the week, since he's now batting lower in the Rockies order following the Jose Reyes acquisition. With Reyes taking over the second spot, LeMahieu hit sixth tonight. Yesterday, 9:19 pm
  • Phillips fills it up: 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 SB
Brandon Phillips went 4-for-5 with two homers, seven RBI and two steals as the Reds smoked the Pirates 15-5 on Thursday.

Advice: That's about as good of a game for fantasy purposes as you'll see. According to Baseball-Reference's Play Index, he's the first player since Ryan Spilborghs in 2009 with two homers and two steals in a game. He's just the third since at least 1914 with seven RBI and two steals, joining Mickey Mantle in 1962 and Gary Sheffield in 1995. Yesterday, 9:09 pm
  • Mariners option Chris Taylor to Triple-A
Mariners optioned SS Chris Taylor to Triple-A Tacoma.

Advice: Taylor went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored on Thursday, but is hitting just .170/.220/.223 on the season. Perhaps he'll benefit from playing everyday at Triple-A, giving him a chance to get back on track. Yesterday, 8:53 pm

Dodgers acquired UTIL Jose Peraza from the Braves in the 13-player, three-team Hector Olivera trade.

Advice: Peraza entered the 2015 season as a consensus top-100 prospect, but some of that shine has worn off. As of Thursday's official trade announcement, he was batting just .294/.318/.379 in 96 games at Triple-A Gwinnett. • Astros activate Jed Lowrie from disabled list
Astros activated INF Jed Lowrie from the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: Lowrie was the Astros' regular shortstop prior to suffering a torn ligament in his right thumb in late April, but he now figures to get the majority of the playing time at third base. Sure enough, he's starting at the hot corner Thursday while Luis Valbuena plays first base. Lowrie was batting .300/.432/.567 with four homers and 10 RBI in 18 games prior to the injury. • Cubs aggressively trying to move SS Castro
ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Cubs are "aggressively trying to include Starlin Castro in any deal."

Advice: It's notable that Addison Russell started at shortstop on Wednesday. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said earlier this week that Castro would not be traded, but that's not a promise he can keep. The 25-year-old is batting just .237/.271/.305 in 406 plate appearances this season and his defense at shortstop has deteriorated. There's been talk of interest from the Padres. Yesterday, 11:32 am
  • Lawrie's 4 hits, 4 RBI not enough to beat LAD
Brett Lawrie went 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a homer, three runs scored and four RBI in a loss Wednesday to the Dodgers.

Advice: He also stole a bag in the monster performance. Lawrie started at third tonight, but he's expected to also draw starts at second base in the wake of Tuesday's Ben Zobrist trade. He's slashing .280/.314/.412 and is on pace for 14 homers, 67 RBI, 54 runs and eight steals. Wednesday, 10:49 pm

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that Jose Peraza would head to the Dodgers in the rumored three-team deal with the Marlins.

Advice: Cabrera's solo shot in the fifth inning represented the lone run for the Rays. He also gave it back and then some, as a crucial error by the shortstop in the seventh led to the Tigers' only two runs. Cabrera is batting just .231/.281/.373 for Tampa this season. Wednesday, 11:54 am

D.J. LeMahieu went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored in the Rockies' 7-2 win over the Cubs on Tuesday.

Advice: LeMahieu got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first inning, coming around to score later in the inning. He fell a homer shy of a cycle, but that's not terribly surprising given that he's hit just 13 homers in 469 career games. Still, the 27-year-old is on fire in July, riding an 18-game hitting streak en route to a .324/.381/.423 overall line. His 56 runs scored are eighth-most in the National League. Tuesday, 8:44 pm

Devon Travis hit a leadoff home run in a 1-for-2 effort before leaving Tuesday's loss to the Phillies with a left shoulder injury.

Advice: Travis was batting leadoff following the departure of shortstop Jose Reyes in the Troy Tulowitzki trade. He greeted Adam Morgan rudely with a home run to lead off the game. He struck out to end the second inning before leaving the game with a left shoulder injury, likely a re-aggravation of the issue which forced him to the disabled list for five weeks earlier this season. FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Padres have discussed Starlin Castro with the Cubs.

Advice: Morosi adds that the Cubs have inquired on the Padres' starters and he opines that a Castro-for-James Shields swap might make some sense. Castro has been a colossal disappointment with the Cubs this season, hitting just .233/.268/.302 with five homers. Advice: The home run was Lindor's third of the season. He's hitting a relatively unimpressive .246/.284/.349 across 126 at-bats, but there's possible value to be had here in deeper AL-only formats so long as he continues to hit in the two-hole. Wednesday, 3:03 pm
  • Starlin Castro sitting out on Wednesday
Starlin Castro is absent from the Cubs' lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Reds.

Advice: Addison Russell is at shortstop, with Jonathan Herrera covering second base. Castro will be back out there for the nightcap. Wednesday, 7:03 am
  • Altuve reaches four times, scores two runs
Jose Altuve went 2-for-3 with two walks, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: As he's done for years, Altuve served as a catalyst for the Astros offense in the win. He walked to lead off the bottom of the first inning, stole second base and scored later in the inning. He added another run and an RBI single later in the game. Altuve is now hitting .296/.342/.419 with 49 runs scored, 41 RBI and an AL-best 27 steals on the year. Tuesday, 9:39 pm

  • Turner belts 12th home run in loss to Braves
Justin Turner hit his 12th home run of the season in a loss to the Braves on Tuesday.

Advice: A night after going 4-for-4 with three singles, Turner connected on a solo shot against Braves starter Alex Wood in Tuesday's contest. It ended up being his only hit on the night. The infielder continues to enjoy a breakout year in Los Angeles, as he's now hitting .322 with a .940 OPS and a career-high 12 homers. Tuesday, 7:48 pm

  • Lowrie (thumb) to begin rehab games on Wed.
Jed Lowrie (thumb) is set to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Double-A Corpus Christi.

Advice: Lowrie has been taking rounds of batting practice without issue since late last week. The 31-year-old underwent surgery in April to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb and Carlos Correa has since taken over at shortstop for Houston. But the switch-hitting Lowrie could work his way into playing time at the hot corner -- stealing some starts from lefty Luis Valbuena -- and he'll be a nice bench piece for the stretch run.
