  • Steve Lombardozzi called up from Triple-A
Pirates purchased the contract of INF/OF Steve Lombardozzi from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Lombarddozzi was off to a .379/.460/.483 start at the plate at Indy. He's operate in a utility role.

  • Jose Pirela (concussion) to be activated Wed.
Jose Pirela (concussion) will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

Advice: Pirela has been over his concussion issues for a while, but the Yankees wanted to get him a good number of rehab at-bats (33). He's expected to take Gregorio Petit's roster spot.

  • Panik provides Giants insurance with a homer
Joe Panik went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, helping the Giants emerge victorious over the Padres on Tuesday.

Advice: Panik belted a solo home run to right field in the fifth inning off of Andrew Cashner, pushing the Giants' lead to 6-0, the score by which they would eventually win. It's the second long ball of the season for Panik, who has driven in nine runs and is hitting .292/.350/.438. Panik is hitting nearly as well as he did last year in terms of average and has shown more power, which the Giants are certainly happy to see.

  • Miller to see time in the outfield
Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said that he's going to start playing Brad Miller in the outfield and at first base, as well as at shortstop.

Advice: McClendon envisions Miller as a sort of "super-utility" player. It's a little difficult to see the "super" part of that equation, as Miller is hitting .250/.301/.382 and has never played the outfield. Miller's made it clear that he still views himself as a shortstop, but he also indicated that he'll do whatever the team asks of him.

  • Steve Tolleson clears waivers for Blue Jays
Blue Jays sent INF Steve Tolleson outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: The Blue Jays designated Tolleson for assignment on April 24. He got 16 plate appearances with the team this season and didn't do much with them, but over 170 at-bats in 2014, he hit .253/.308/.371. He offers some versatility and his bat plays OK for a utility role.

  • Scooter Gennett activated from DL
Brewers activated INF Scooter Gennett from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Gennett had been rehabbing from a lacerated left hand, which he suffered in the shower. His stitches have been removed and he should be ready to play when the Brewers need him.

  • Heyman: Rougned Odor could be demoted
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman writes that Rougned Odor is a candidate for a demotion.

Advice: It's unclear whether Heyman is just speculating or has inside information, but it wouldn't be surprising if the possibility is on the table. The 21-year-old has struggled to the tune of a .146/.263/.244 batting line across his first 25 games this season. He was rushed to the majors out of need last year, so some more seasoning in the minors might not be the worst thing for him.

  • Hector Gomez triples, homers in Brewers' win
Hector Gomez went 2-for-3 with a triple and a solo home run Monday in a victory over the Dodgers.

Advice: Gomez tripled and scored the Brewers' first run in the sixth inning, then hit a solo home run in the eighth off of Clayton Kershaw in what became a three-run inning. Gomez got the start at shortstop as Jean Segura was hit in the helmet on Sunday. Gomez is batting .250/.286/.450 in 44 plate appearances.

  • Rougned Odor sitting out on Monday
Rougned Odor is not in the Rangers' lineup Monday.

Advice: It looks like a routine day off. Adam Rosales is at second base in Odor's place.

  • Eddie Rosario recalled from Triple-A
Twins recalled OF Eddie Rosario from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: He's taking Oswaldo Arcia's (hip) spot on the roster and should see ample playing time. A former top-100 prospect, Rosario has really struggled the last two seasons since returning from a PED suspension, hitting just .242/.280/.379 this year at Rochester.
    Monday, 1:28 pm
  • Asdrubal Cabrera dropped to seventh Mon.
Asdrubal Cabrera has been dropped to the seventh spot in the Rays' batting order Monday.

Advice: Cabrera had been hitting third for the Rays, but he's in a bad slump so manager Kevin Cash will try something different. James Loney is batting third on Monday night.

  • Franklin (oblique) ready for rehab assignment
Nick Franklin (oblique) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Franklin had been aiming to join the Rays' roster by mid-April, but the left oblique strain he suffered at the end of spring training turned out to be rather serious. He should be starting games at second base for Tampa Bay by next week and the talented 24-year-old carries some fringe fantasy potential in deeper mixed leagues.

  • Carlos Sanchez drives in seven runs Saturday
White Sox prospect Carlos Sanchez has gone 9-for-9 over his last two games for Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: Saturday's outing included two homers and seven RBI. Sanchez has hit safely in 17 of 19 games this season and reached base in all but one. Sanchez still swings and misses too much (20 Ks in 86 at-bats this year), but other than that, it's hard to find fault with anything he's done this season. If Sanchez keeps this up, it's going to be hard for the White Sox to keep him in Triple-A.

Ryan Flaherty (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday.

  • Asdrubal Cabrera getting a day of rest
Asdrubal Cabrera is not in the Rays' lineup Sunday.

Advice: It appears to simply be a day of rest. Tim Beckham is handling shortstop in Cabrera's place.
    Sunday, 7:41 am
  • Wilmer Flores sitting out again Sunday
Wilmer Flores is not in the Mets' lineup Sunday.

Advice: It's the second straight day he's been on the bench in favor of Ruben Tejada. Flores is clearly overmatched defensively at shortstop, and it's possible we could start seeing Tejada more and more at the position.

  • Franklin (oblique) set for rehab assignment
Nick Franklin (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment on Monday.

Advice: The Rays haven't decided which affiliate he'll be assigned to yet, and it's also unclear how many rehab games Franklin is expected to require. The infielder figures to be tracking towards a mid-May return and is expected to take over at second base even though Logan Forsythe and Tim Beckham have been pretty productive.

  • Flaherty on track to begin rehab assignment
Ryan Flaherty tested his injured groin Saturday by running the bases.

Advice: Flaherty is hoping to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Monday. He could be joined there by J.J. Hardy (shoulder), who also worked out on Saturday. Flaherty is eligible to come off the disabled list Friday when the Orioles visit the Yankees. Reynaldo Navarro will likely be the odd man out when Flaherty returns to the infield.

  • Lawrie hits go-ahead double as A's stun Texas
Brett Lawrie delivered a go-ahead two-run double in Friday's 7-5 win over the Rangers.

Advice: After being quiet for the first seven innings of the game, the Athletics' offense erupted for seven runs in the eighth against the Rangers' bullpen. Lawrie was involved in a close call on a check-swing against Neftali Feliz, but he stayed in the at-bat and poked an opposite-field double to put the Athletics in front. The 25-year-old has driven in nine runs over his last five games.

  • Pirela (concussion) shifts rehab to Triple-A
Jose Pirela (concussion) has shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: He's 1-for-14 in four rehab games between High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton, but the Yankees aren't going to be too worried about those results. Pirala should join the big league roster as a utility infielder by early next week. The 25-year-old suffered a concussion on March 22 when he knocked into a wall at spring training.

  • Rougned Odor goes 0-for-4
Rougned Odor went 0-for-4 as the Rangers' No. 2 hitter in Wednesday's loss.

Advice: Odor has mostly hit in the bottom third of the order, but he's made three starts hitting first or second and gone 1-for-11 with a walk. He'd be a better bet in fantasy leagues if he could claim the two hole for himself, but that .147 average isn't getting it done.

  • Gennett to begin rehab assignment Friday
Scooter Gennett (hand) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Wisconsin on Friday.

Advice: Gennett had the stitches removed from his left hand Wednesday. He'll play four games for Wisconsin before returning on the disabled list next Tuesday when first eligible, assuming he doesn't have any issues.

  • Ryan Flaherty (groin) takes batting practice
Ryan Flaherty (groin) took batting practice on Wednesday.

  • Lawrie smacks three-run homer as the A's win
Brett Lawrie went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run to help the Athletics beat the Angels on Tuesday.

Advice: Lawrie added a big blow in the first inning against Jered Weaver, breaking a 2-2 tie with a three-run home run. The 25-year-old third baseman has had trouble gaining traction at the plate thus far, as the homer was only his second of the season. He's also hitting a meager .224/.259/.329 with 10 RBI.

  • Jose Pirela (concussion) could return Wed.
Jose Pirela (concussion) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Wednesday.

Advice: Pirela has appeared in two rehab games. The Yankees sent Gregorio Petit down Tuesday to make room for spot starter Chase Whitley. It's likely that they'll then replace Whitley with Pirela, who would serve in a utility role.

  • Nick Franklin (oblique) near rehab assignment
Nick Franklin (oblique) expects to begin a minor league rehab assignment at some point this week.

Advice: Franklin seemed to be trending toward minor league games early last week, but the Rays slowed his rehab as a precautionary measure. The 24-year-old was poised to open the 2015 season as Tampa Bay's starting second baseman before suffering an oblique strain at the end of spring training. He should be ready to rock in early May and may carry some value in deep fantasy leagues.

  • Pirela (concussion) begins rehab assignment
Jose Pirela (concussion) began a rehab assignment Sunday with the High-A Tampa Yankees.

Advice: Pirela served as Tampa's designated hitter in his rehab debut and went 0-for-4. The 25-year-old catcher had been on the shelf since March 22 with a bad concussion. He'll head to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once he's fully healthy and his timing is right.
