  • Moustakas collects three hits as Royals roll
Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Royals outlasted the Orioles 5-3 on Thursday.

Advice: Moustakas also scored a run in the contest. After a small slump coming out of the All-Star break, Moustakas has really picked up the pace offensively in recent weeks. With his three-hit attack he's now hitting .283/.350/.449 with 56 RBI on the year. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 4:50 pm
  • Jung Ho Kang out of Pirates' lineup Thursday
Jung Ho Kang is out of the Pirates' lineup Thursday.

Advice: Kang was also given a day off Tuesday. He's been worked hard in his first major league season and Jordy Mercer is back from his knee injury to take some of the reps at shortstop. Mercer will start there and bat eighth versus Miami on Thursday evening. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 12:26 pm

The third baseman has been on the disabled list since July 23 with a non-displaced fracture in his right index finger. • Ryan Flaherty goes 2-for-3, homers
Ryan Flaherty went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk versus the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: Flaherty should be the Orioles' primary shortstop the next week with J.J. Hardy out. It doesn't make him a great mixed-league option, but he could be a cheap DFS play from time to time. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:54 pm

  • Mike Moustakas hits 15th homer
Mike Moustakas went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Orioles on Wednesday.

Advice: Moustakas has four homers in six games, bringing his season total to 15 homers and 54 RBI in 430 at-bats. Last year, he finished with 15 homers and 54 RBI in 457 at-bats. The big difference this year is that he's hitting .279, compared to .212 last year. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:49 pm
  • Adonis Garcia goes 3-for-5, homers
Adonis Garcia went 3-for-5 and hit his sixth homer Wednesday against the Rockies.

Advice: Garcia has shown ample pop, but he has a .256 OBP in 114 at-bats and he's a bad defender at third. He's due to become a backup next week when Hector Olivera arrives in the majors. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 8:31 pm

  • Eduardo Escobar homers twice in Twins' win
Eduardo Escobar hit a pair of solo homers to lead the Twins to a 5-3 win over the Rays on Wednesday.

Advice: That's three homers and three doubles in five games for Escobar, who has pushed his OPS over .700. He's going to finish out the season as the Twins' starting shortstop after spending much of the first half as a utilityman. Still, he doesn't really have a lot to offer mixed leaguers. • Castellanos drills solo homer in win vs. LAA
Nick Castellanos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run as the Tigers topped the Angels 5-0 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos started the scoring in the second inning with a solo homer off of Hector Santiago. It's his ninth home run in 36 second-half games, accounting for 60 percent of his 15 total long balls on the season. Castellanos has driven in 63 runs and compiled an adequate .248/.303/.424 batting line. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:19 pm
  • Chris Johnson (infection) hits off tee
Chris Johnson (infection) hit balls off a tee on Monday.

Advice: Johnson has been on the shelf since a spider bite on his left thumb on August 14 became infected. He's had to have the infection drained twice. "I ended up having an infection and they had to treat it with antibiotics," said Johnson. "The last two days I've finally been able to swing the bat." Advice: Freese has been with Salt Lake since Sunday, but he won't be tried in the field for another 3-4 days. Jung Ho Kang is out of the Pirates' lineup Tuesday against the Marlins.

Danny Valencia had two hits in five at-bats, including a two-run home run, as the Athletics defeated the Mariners on Monday.

  • Moustakas homer sends Royals past Orioles
Mike Moustakas hit a game-tying two-run home run, allowing the Royals to come back to win against the Royals on Monday.

Advice: Moustakas, who finished 1-for-4 on the evening, turned a 3-1 deficit into a 3-3 tie when he slugged a Ubaldo Jimenez offering to right-center for his 14th home run of the season. The third baseman has homered in three of his last four games, continuing to hit in what has been a breakout age-26 season. Moustakas is hitting .274/.341/.432 with 51 RBI along with the 14 round-trippers. Rotoworld.com Monday, 8:02 pm

"Moose" is batting .274/.342/.426 with 13 homers, 23 doubles, and 49 RBI on the season for the Royals, who hold a massive 13-game lead in the American League Central standings. Jed Lowrie left Sunday's game against the Dodgers with an undisclosed injury.

Danny Valencia has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his right knee.

Kaleb Cowart hit his first major league home run Saturday off the Blue Jays' Marco Estrada.

  • Danny Valencia (hamstring) will have an MRI
Danny Valencia (hamstring) is not in the Athletics starting lineup Saturday against the Rays.

  • Kaleb Cowart still hitless since callup
Kaleb Cowart went 0-for-3 on Friday and has opened his big-league career 0-for-13 with six strikeouts.

Advice: It's no surprise that Cowart is looking overmatched against big-league pitching. It's also something that doesn't figure to change right away. The Angels really should have stuck with Conor Gillaspie at third base and hoped for the best. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:42 pm

  • Freese to begin rehab assignment on Sunday
David Freese (finger) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday.

Advice: Freese has been hitting for a while with no issues but only recently has been able to throw. • Eduardo Escobar goes 3-for-5, homers
Eduardo Escobar went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double as the Twins' No. 9 hitter on Thursday.

Advice: It's bizarre how little shortstop Escobar was playing there for a spell, particularly after the Twins initially sent down Danny Santana, but he's getting his chance to claim the job now. He's not a great hitter or a great defender, but he'd seem to offer the best mix of offense and defense in the organization. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:33 pm

  • Mike Moustakas hits 12th homer
Mike Moustakas hit his 12th homer to give the Royals their only run Thursday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Moustakas has gone back to pulling the ball, and he's hitting just .196 in 112 at-bats since the All-Star break, though that does come with a nice 15/13 K/BB ratio. As long as the strikeouts stay down, his average figures to come back at least a little bit. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:44 pm
  • Nick Castellanos homers twice, doubles twice
Nick Castellanos went 4-for-5, two homers, two doubles and five RBI as the Tigers smoked the Cubs 15-8 on Wednesday.

Advice: Castellanos joined Denard Span and Jackie Bradley Jr. as the only players with four extra-base hits in a game this season. He's the first Tiger to do it since Ivan Rodriguez on Apr. 5, 2006. Castellanos seemed to be turning his season around in July, but he had gone right back to slumping this month (.222, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 13 games) before busting out tonight. The talent is there for him to turn into a quality regular, but he's only shined against lefties this season (all four hits tonight came off southpaws). He's not going to be promised anything in 2016 unless he puts together a strong finish. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 9:20 pm

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday that David Freese's (finger) rehab is going "slowly, but it’s moving in the right direction."

Advice: Freese threw Tuesday without pressure on his broken finger and the hope is that he’ll be able to throw with pressure by the end of the week. Angels purchased the contract of 3B Kaleb Cowart from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Advice: Cowart, the 18th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft, has hit .323/.395/.491 with six home runs and 45 RBI in 62 games this season at the Triple-A level. He should see semi-regular starts at third base while David Freese recovers from a fractured index finger. The 23-year-old will be making his major league debut Tuesday night against the White Sox.
