    • Tommy Edman to start rehab assignment on Tuesday
Tommy Edman (wrist, ankle) will begin a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.

Advice: Edman is set to take live batting practice on Friday and Saturday before heading out to finally begin his minor league rehab assignment. Given the long layoff, he’s probably going to need quite a few games there before he’s deemed ready to join the Cardinals. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until after the All-Star break. • Out again versus lefty
Gorman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: It's the second straight day that Gorman will be on the bench as the opposition sends a left-hander -- in this case, Patrick Corbin -- to the hill. Brendan Donovan will play second base for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Today, 12:31 pm

    • Slated for return Friday
Harrison (ankle) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list Saturday to make a start in Cleveland.

Advice: As anticipated, Harrison will bypass a rehab assignment and step right back into the San Francisco rotation after having missed just under a month with a right ankle sprain. During his absence, Harrison has been able to build his arm back up through bullpen sessions and live batting practice sessions, so he likely won't face any major restrictions in his first start since June 10. Harrison went 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 77.1 innings over his first 14 starts with the Giants prior to landing on the shelf. Rotowire.com Today, 10:14 am

    • Steals base in loss
Garcia went 0-for-3 with a walk and a steal in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Padres.

Advice: Garcia stole his seventh bag of the season in fourth inning then was thrown out at home trying to score on Leody Taveras' single. Garcia, who stole 25 bases (31 attempts) in 2022, is an occasional base stealer these days. He was successful on nine of 10 attempts last year and seven of nine thus far in 2024. Thursday's walk extended Garcia's on-base streak to 14 games (.350 OBP). Rotowire.com Today, 6:15 am

    • Reaches 10-steal mark
Gelof went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 5-0 win over the Angels.

Advice: The steal was Gelof's 10th of the year. He's picked up two of those thefts during an eight-game stretch in which he's gone 7-for-27 with a 4:13 BB:K. The second baseman is at a .201/.263/.361 slash line with nine home runs, 23 RBI and 30 runs scored over 67 contests, and his 36.2 percent strikeout rate is weighing down the rest of his stat line. • Bryce Harper (hamstring) getting closer to return
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said both Bryce Harper (hamstring) and J.T. Realmuto (knee) are running at 75% intensity.

Advice: The Phillies will be home for six games next week and then have the All-Star break, so there’s no reason to rush either Harper or Realmuto, but Thomson said that the Phillies won’t hold either of them back if they’re ready to go before the break. Given the nature of Realmuto’s injury and his age, it’s more likely Harper will return before the break than Realmuto. However, the Phillies have a solid lead in the NL East, so the team could decide to be cautious with both and hold them out for next week. One would assume that if the Phillies don’t bring either Harper or Realmuto back for the early week series against the Dodgers, they will certainly hold them out for the weekend series against the Athletics. • Doing drills at 70-to-75 percent
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Thursday that Harper (hamstring) is currently able to go through drills at 70-to-75 percent intensity, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Harper is eligible for activation July 9 as he works his way back from a strained left hamstring. While the Phillies won't hesitate to activate Harper next week if he's ready, they do have the All-Star break looming the following week if they decide to give the first baseman a little more time. • Taking BP with Double-A affiliate
Edman (wrist) will take live batting practice Friday and Saturday at Double-A Springfield, Lynn Worthy of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Advice: If that goes well, Edman should be cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Springfield. Edman was recently set back a few days by a sprained ankle, but that appears to be a non-issue now. The Cardinals had been hoping to get Edman back prior to the All-Star break, but it's possible the little hiccup with the ankle last week will convince the club to push Edman's return back until the start of the second half. He's been out all season while recovering from wrist surgery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 am

    • Taking seat against southpaw
Gorman is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh.

Advice: Left-hander Martin Perez is drawing the start on the mound for the Pirates, so the lefty-hitting Gorman will begin this one on the bench. Jose Fermin will occupy second base for the Cardinals. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:58 am
