      Justin Steele went the distance for his first win of 2024, pitching a two-hitting in a 5-1 game against the Angels.

      Advice: The Cubs didn’t need to turn to their shaky pen this time out, as Steele finished off the Angels in just 95 pitches. He struck out seven and walked two for his first win in 13 starts this season and 18 outings dating back to last year, when he opened up 16-3 before going 0-2 in his final four turns and perhaps costing himself a Cy Young Award.     • Ian Happ drives in two runs in Cubs’ victory
      Ian Happ had two more hits and two more RBI against the Angels in Friday’s win.

      Advice: Just like last night, it was again Happ and Seiya Suzuki, who hit a two-run homer, doing the heavy lifting for the Cubs offense. They both have .806 OPSs at the moment and, given the state of the NL outfield poor, legitimate cases for All-Star nods.     • Throws complete game for first win
      Steele (1-3) earned the win against the Angels on Friday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over nine innings.

      Advice: Steele needed just 95 pitches to toss his first career complete game. The only blemish was an RBI single by Taylor Ward in the fifth, but the lefty responded by retiring 13 consecutive batters to seal his much overdue first win of the year. The 29-year-old has logged six straight quality starts and owns a 2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77:18 K:BB over 79.1 innings this season. He lines up for a road matchup with the Orioles next week.       Chisholm went 1-for-4 with two walks, an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's extra-innings loss to the Red Sox.

      Advice: He was also caught stealing, giving the center fielder 15 steals in 23 attempts on the season. Chisholm had drawn just one free pass over his prior 13 games, so his display of patience was unexpected and not likely to be repeated any time soon. On the year, 26-year-old is slashing .259/.326/.416 through 84 contests with 10 homers, 37 runs and 40 RBI, and most importantly Chisholm has stayed healthy after missing 167 games across the last two seasons.       Marsh (6-6) took the loss against the Rays on Thursday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over three innings while striking out one.

      Advice: Marsh struggled out of the gate, issuing a walk to each of the first two batters he faced before allowing two runs to come across in the opening frame. He threw only 10 of his 17 first pitches for strikes and lasted just three innings before being relieved by Carlos Hernandez to open the fourth. It marked the second time this season in which Marsh was unable to go beyond three frames and the fourth time that he's surrendered at least five runs.     • Surrenders four runs in defeat
      Bassitt (7-7) took the loss against Houston on Thursday, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out three batters over five innings.

      Advice: Bassitt got off to a terrible start in allowing six of the first seven batters he faced to reach base, resulting in three Astros runs. The veteran hurler bounced back to give up just one more run over the remainder of his five frames, but the first-inning damage was enough to send him to his seventh loss of the season. Bassitt had been rolling coming into Thursday, posting a 1.41 ERA across his previous five starts, and the four runs he yielded against Houston were his most since he gave up seven runs against the Dodgers on April 26. Bassitt's overall numbers this season have been pretty much in line with what fantasy managers have come to expect from him -- he has a 3.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 94:41 K:BB across 102.1 frames.       Steer went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, an additional run and a walk against the Yankees in an 8-4 victory Thursday.

      Advice: Steer gave the Reds a 5-0 lead with his three-run blast to the short porch in right field in the fifth inning. The long ball was his 11th of the campaign, and he's just shy of the halfway point to reaching the 23 homers he hit last season.     • Marsh allows five in loss to Rays on Thursday
      Alex Marsh allowed five runs in three innings and took the loss against the Rays on Thursday.



      Advice: Marsh gave up six hits, walked three and struck out one. The Royals had seen enough after three innings and 75 pitches from Marsh. He allowed two runs in the first on an RBI groundout by Randy Arozarena and an RBI double by Josh Lowe. Jonny DeLuca hit a solo home run and Richie Palacios had an RBI single in the second inning. DeLuca added an RBI single in the third inning and Marsh didn’t come back out for the fourth inning. Marsh has a 4.57 ERA, but has won six games this season. The 26-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cardinals on the road next week.

      Suarez allowed a walk during a scoreless inning of relief Thursday to pick up the save against the Rangers. He struck out one.
