  • Donaldson homers, but Jays fall to Palehose
Josh Donaldson ripped his 20th home run of the season, but the Blue Jays suffered a 4-2 loss to the White Sox on Monday.

Advice: Donaldson finished 2-for-3 on the night. He drilled a solo home run to left field off of Chris Sale in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The Blue Jays' slugger was the leading vote-getter in All-Star balloting, setting a new record for votes in fact. It has a lot to do with his .300/.357/.537 batting line with 20 home runs and 57 RBI.

  • Cubs expected to pursue Kendrick over winter
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Cubs are expected to target Howie Kendrick over the offseason.

Advice: They'll have to free up the logjam on their infield first, which likely would involve trading Starling Castro. Rosenthal notes that the Dodgers could attempt to re-sign Kendrick, and the Yankees would be a possible landing spot, as well. Kendrick, who will turn 32 on Sunday, is batting .292/.342/.416 with seven homers and 36 RBI this season.

  • Yunel Escobar leaves game with injury
Yunel Escobar exited Monday's game versus the Reds with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Escobar was seen stretching his legs a few times, so it appears to be something related to his lower half. The Nationals should provide an update on him later Monday.

  • Marco Gonzales (shoulder) nearly game ready
Marco Gonzales (shoulder) is expected to return to game action on Friday with High-A Palm Beach.

Advice: Gonzales has been limited to just six starts this season due to an impingement in his left shoulder. He's expected to be built up to 100 pitches by the end of the month, so he could be an option for the Cardinals by that time if he's pitching well.

Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

Advice: Ellsbury missed a few games during his rehab assignment last week due to fatigue in his legs, but he went through simulated game activities on Monday and the Yankees were apparently happy with what they saw. The outfielder has been on the shelf since mid-May with a right knee sprain.

Yimi Garcia will start Monday's game versus the Phillies.

Yordano Ventura (hand) has officially been cleared to start on Thursday against the Rays after a successful bullpen session Monday.

Advice: Ventura had been slated for another rehab start, but the Royals changed their mind after he felt good in a 'pen session over the weekend. Given the nice matchup, fantasy owners can probably go ahead and roll with the righty this week. Joe Blanton will head back to the bullpen following Ventura's return.

  • Marte (oblique) absent from Monday's lineup
Starling Marte (oblique) is not in the Pirates' lineup Monday.

Advice: The Pirates are calling him day-to-day for now even though it's almost surely a strained oblique Marte is dealing with (the club has only said he has discomfort in his left side). It appears he'll avoid the disabled list for now, but fantasy owners would be wise not to count on him for a few days. Sean Rodriguez is in left field Monday.

  • Gary Sanchez continues his home run binge
Yankees C prospect Gary Sanchez pounded his third home run in as many games Sunday in a victory for Double-A Trenton.

Advice: He contributed three of Trenton's season-high 18 hits. The hot-hitting Thunder have scored a combined 44 runs during their four-game winning streak. Sanchez has hit safely in six of his last seven games with six RBI. The 22-year-old has homered once every 20.7 plate appearances this season, a significant improvement from last season when he homered only once every 36.7 plate appearances.

Travis Ishikawa will take Josh Harrison's (thumb) place on the Pirates' active 25-man roster.

  • Reds call up Yorman Rodriguez
Reds recalled OF Yorman Rodriguez from Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Rodriguez was ranked as the No. 10 prospect in the Reds' system by Baseball America over the winter. An early cut from spring training this season, he hit .272/.310/.432 with nine homers and 40 RBI across 287 at-bats in Triple-A prior to the promotion.

  • Brewers place Garza (shoulder) on DL
Brewers placed RHP Matt Garza on the disabled list, retroactive to July 3, with right shoulder tendinitis.

Advice: This is somewhat surprising, as there was little indication that Garza was dealing with arm troubles. It's unknown if this has been impacting his recent performance, but in his last two starts, he's been hit hard to the tune of 11 runs on 23 hits over 11 1/3 innings. For the season, Garza holds a 5.55 ERA and 68/33 K/BB ratio. No timetable has been set for his return as of yet.

  • Starling Marte exits with side discomfort
Starling Marte exited Sunday's game against the Indians with discomfort in his left side.

Advice: The Pirates don't want to provide a definitive diagnosis until Marte is re-evaluated on Monday. The fear, obviously, is that he's suffered a strained oblique, which would surely require a trip to the disabled list. More will be known about Marte on Monday.

  • Pirates claim Travis Ishikawa off waivers
Pirates claimed 1B/OF Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the Giants.

Advice: Ishikawa was actually the Pirates' Opening Day first baseman last season but didn't last with the club for long. The veteran has spent almost all of 2015 at Triple-A, batting .271/.342/.421 with four homers over 34 games. He'll give the Pirates a backup option at first base and the corner outfield spots.

  • Marte exits game with apparent side injury
Starling Marte left Sunday's game against the Indians with an apparent injury to his side.

Advice: Marte grabbed his side after a swing in the bottom of the fourth inning and eventually walked off the field after a conversation with the Pirates' trainer and manager Clint Hurdle. Obviously, the fear is that he might had strained his oblique, but the club should offer an update on Marte shortly.

"His legs aren’t where they need to be for him to play on a consistent basis," manager Joe Girardi said. "That’s our concern because they’re so important to him." • Marte strikes out twice in hit-less effort
Starling Marte went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Indians.

Advice: The 0-for-4 jaunt snapped Marte's eight-game hitting streak. It's been a career best season to this point for the outfielder, who will set a personal best for homers when he hits his next one (he's currently at 13, same as the number he hit all of last year). • Matt Garza gives up four runs in no-decision
Matt Garza struggled in a no-decision against the Phillies on Thursday, giving up four runs on 10 hits over his six frames.

Advice: Garza struck out three on the night while issuing one free pass. He left with his team maintaining a 7-4 advantage, but the Brewers bullpen was unable to hold on and provide his fifth victory. Mired in a high disappointing season, he'll carry a 5.55 ERA and 68/33 K/BB ratio into Tuesday's matchup against the Braves.

Starling Marte doubled and homered in a 4-for-5 effort as the Pirates trounced the Tigers on Wednesday.

He's now on a seven-game hitting streak, but entered the game with a .518 OPS in his previous 10 contests. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) could still be activated on Friday even after sitting out Tuesday's rehab game because of fatigue.

  • Josh Donaldson launches 18th homer
Josh Donaldson singled and belted a solo homer in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: Donaldson's towering blast off of Chi Chi Gonzalez in the fourth inning got the scoring going and the Blue Jays held on for a one-run victory. The third baseman now has 18 longballs and 48 RBI for the season to go along with a .301/.360/.540 batting line. Toronto's trade for Donaldson looks smarter by the day.
