  • Carlos Correa goes 3-for-5, hits fourth homer
Carlos Correa went 3-for-5 with a homer, a double and three RBI in the Astros' 16-4 rout of the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: Correa was due to bust out with one of these; since hitting two home runs on April 6 he had remained quiet, going 23 straight games without a homer. There was no way American League pitchers were going to keep him down for much longer. He's back up to .276/.388/.469 for the year now. Yesterday, 9:19 pm
  • Xander Bogaerts goes 3-for-4
Xander Bogaerts reached four times Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a walk against the White Sox.

Advice: Bogaerts hit second tonight, rather than his usual third. That wouldn't be good for his RBI production if it sticks, though it wouldn't matter a whole lot overall. Bogaerts is batting .321 in 106 at-bats. He's homered just once, but he already has 10 doubles. The really nice surprise is his five steals in five attempts. Yesterday, 8:25 pm
  • Machado doubles twice in loss
Manny Machado doubled twice in Wednesday's shutout loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Machado was the only ray of sunshine for the Orioles. He doubled twice, collecting doubles 12 and 13 on the year, and is now hitting .355/.410/.673 in 117 plate appearances. That's a slash line that even makes Daniel Murphy blush these days. Machado is one of the best five players in all of baseball and will only see his fantasy value increase with more starts at shortstop. Yesterday, 8:09 pm
  • Corey Seager reaches three times
After sitting against a left-hander Tuesday, Corey Seager started against one Wednesday and contributed a double and two walks against the Rays.

Advice: Seager is hitting .252/.322/.398 in 103 at-bats, which, while not up to expectations, is hardly a disaster. He still has some work to do before earning an everyday spot near the top of the Dodgers' lineup, but he'll get there before the year is out. Yesterday, 8:04 pm
  • Semien smashes seventh homer in loss
Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Semien connected for a solo home run off Mariners starter Felix Hernandez in the third inning. It was his seventh homer of the young season. The 25-year-old shortstop is already almost halfway home to matching his career-best 16 homers from 2015. Through his first 91 at-bats, he is slashing .209/.284/.451. Semien is never going to be confused with Tony Gwynn in terms of the average, but he should be able to raise that mark closer to his career number of .246 as the season progresses. Yesterday, 4:01 pm
  • Brock Holt sits against Carlos Rodon
Brock Holt is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest with the White Sox.

Advice: Holt will sit against opposing southpaw starter Carlos Rodon. In his place, Chris Young earns a start in left field. Young is hitting sixth. This is nothing new for Holt. He has seen just nine at-bats all season against left-handed pitchers. Yesterday, 1:35 pm

  • Segura (hip) out again Wednesday vs. Marlins
Jean Segura (hip) is out again Wednesday.

Advice: Segura also sat out Sunday and Tuesday with a nagging hip issue. It's thought to be minor. Phil Gosselin will start at second base and bat leadoff for Arizona on Wednesday night against Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. Yesterday, 12:51 pm
    4:10 pm @Mia
  • Eugenio Suarez homers, drives in three vs. SF
Eugenio Suarez went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the Reds' 7-4 win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Advice: Suarez slugged a two-run homer off Giants starter Jake Peavy in the bottom of the second -- one of three homers in that frame versus Peavy. The third baseman then added an RBI single in the bottom of the third. Suarez has been slumping a bit since his hot start, but he now boasts six homers and 18 RBI in just 27 games. Yesterday, 12:28 pm
  • Aledmys Diaz batting leadoff on Wednesday
Aledmys Diaz is batting leadoff for the Cardinals on Wednesday night against the Phillies.

Advice: It will be his first time hitting anywhere higher than seventh in the St. Louis lineup. Diaz boasts an incredible .388/.424/.700 slash line with five home runs and 14 RBI over his first 25 major league games. Yesterday, 11:51 am
  • Dodgers suspend Arruebarrena for the season
Dodgers director of player development Gabe Kapler announced Wednesday that Erisbel Arruebarrena has been suspended for the rest of the season "for repeated failure to comply with the terms of his contract."

Advice: This is the same thing the Dodgers tried to do last May, but a grievance was filed and the suspension was reduced to 30 days. It might be best if these two parties simply go their separate ways, though the Dodgers still owe Arruebarrena around $17.5 million. The 26-year-old infielder was signed out of Cuba in 2013 and has been a major disappointment both off and on the field. He was slashing .182/.224/.400 with four home runs and 21 strikeouts in 17 games this season at Double-A Tulsa. Yesterday, 10:04 am
  • Cozart (knee) returns to Reds' lineup on Wed.
Zack Cozart (knee) is back in the Reds' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Giants.

Advice: Cozart tweaked his surgically-repaired right knee in Sunday's series finale against the Pirates and was held out of the first two games of this three-game set with the Giants. It sounds like that was all mostly precautionary. The 30-year-old shortstop has an impressive .347/.350/.533 batting line in 19 games this season for Cincinnati. Yesterday, 6:47 am
  • Escobar has four-hit night in win over Nats
Alcides Escobar went 4-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a steal in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

Advice: Escobar swatted four singles on the evening, including a big one with two outs in the ninth inning to extend the game for Lorenzo Cain, who promptly ended it with an RBI single of his own. The stolen base was Escobar's seventh of the season, third-most in the American League. Royals manager Ned Yost is a subscriber to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory, leaving Escobar atop a lineup that won the 2015 World Series despite Escobar's .259/.288/.321 line through 26 games. Tuesday, 10:13 pm
  • Santana hits first homer of 2016 vs. Astros
Danny Santana went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: Leading off the game, Santana took Astros starter Collin McHugh deep to get the Twins on the board. It also got him on the board, as the homer was his first in 12 games this season. It was also his first since his breakout 2014 season. A hamstring injury sidelined him early, but the 25-year-old is batting .283/.298/.391 with the homer and four steals and may once again be a cheap source of speed if he continues to find his way into the lineup regularly. Tuesday, 9:39 pm
  • Francisco Lindor has big night in Tribe's win
Francisco Lindor went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and three runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: Lindor's long three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Justin Verlander effectively ended the game, extending the Indians' lead to 7-2 at the time. It was the young shortstop's second longball of the season and pushed his RBI total up to 12. With a .315/.380/.438 batting line in his first 23 games, Lindor has certainly avoided a sophomore slump to this point. Tuesday, 6:41 pm
  • Jean Segura out Tues. because of hip issue
Jean Segura is out of the Diamondbacks' starting lineup on Tuesday due to a hip issue.

Advice: It's not considered serious and Segura is hoping to return Wednesday. Phil Gosselin is at second base and Nick Ahmed is at shortstop Tuesday versus the Marlins. Tuesday, 1:29 pm
    4:10 pm @Mia
  • Manny Machado now at SS for O's on Tues.
Manny Machado is starting at shortstop on Tuesday.

Advice: Machado was originally penciled in at third base, but the O's have decided to let him play short with Ryan Flaherty covering the hot corner. Machado should get regular starts at shortstop while J.J. Hardy recovers from a small fracture in his left foot. Tuesday, 1:06 pm
  • Robertson ends slump with epic four-hit game
Rays SS prospect Daniel Robertson ended a three-game hitless streak by providing four hits Monday in a win for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Robertson had been just six for his last 29 before Monday's explosion. The 22-year-old finished a home run shy of the cycle. He also scored twice while plating four runs. Robertson earned his promotion to Triple-A this year by hitting .274 across 299 at-bats for Double-A Montgomery in 2015. He homered 15 times in 2014 but has only logged five round-trippers since then. Tuesday, 12:42 pm

  • Franklin Barreto stays hot with three hits
Athletics SS prospect Franklin Barreto paced Double-A Midland with three hits including a solo home run Monday in a win over visiting San Antonio.

Advice: Barreto got off to a sluggish start this season but has raised his average over 200 points since April 22 by going 20 for his last 46 at the plate. He's collected at least two hits in five of his last six games, stealing four bases over that stretch. The 20-year-old is tied for eighth in the Texas League with 20 runs scored this year. Tuesday, 12:25 pm

  • Machado at 3B, Flaherty at SS on Tuesday
Manny Machado will start at third base Tuesday against the Yankees.

Advice: Many were expecting Machado to get the first crack to fill in for J.J. Hardy (foot) at shortstop, but he's staying put on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the newly-recalled Ryan Flaherty will start at shortstop. We still think Machado still has a chance to see some time at shortstop, which would obviously be nice for his fantasy value. Tuesday, 12:18 pm
  • Orioles place SS Hardy (foot) on 15-day DL
Orioles placed SS J.J. Hardy on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 2, with a left foot fracture.

Advice: Hardy suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot in the fourth inning of Sunday's game. He's expected to miss around 6-8 weeks. Manny Machado is an option to fill in at shortstop during Hardy's absence, though Ryan Flaherty is getting the first start there Tuesday. Chris Davis and Pedro Alvarez could see time at third base if Machado makes the move to shortstop. Tuesday, 12:12 pm

  • Orioles recall INF Flaherty from Triple-A
Orioles recalled INF Ryan Flaherty from Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: He'll replace the injured J.J. Hardy (foot) on the active roster. It's unclear how the Orioles intend to play it in their infield with Hardy sidelined, but Flaherty should see some starts. The 29-year-old is a .215 hitter in the majors, but he offers some pop and could be relevant in AL-only leagues if the playing time is there. Tuesday, 12:09 pm

  • Seager not in Tuesday's lineup
Corey Seager is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Rays.

Advice: He's sitting against southpaw Matt Moore. Charlie Culberson will start at shortstop and bat ninth. Tuesday, 11:19 am
  • Twins option INF Polanco to Triple-A
Twins optioned INF Jorge Polanco to Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: The move clears the way for Trevor Plouffe's return from the disabled list. Polanco has already had two stints with the Twins this season and should be back again at some point this summer. Monday, 9:21 pm
    Not Active
  • Eduardo Nunez hits first homer
Eduardo Nunez homered, walked and drove in two runs Monday against the Astros.

Advice: The Twins are getting Trevor Plouffe back, so Nunez is about to lose almost all of his playing time at third base. It'll be interesting to see what the Twins do now, given that he's been one of their most productive players (.371/.415/.441 in 59 AB). He's a big defensive downgrade from Eduardo Escobar at shortstop, and while he has some outfield experience, he's never played center in the majors. Most likely, Nunez will sit most of the time, though he should get the occasional start in left. Monday, 8:57 pm
  • Jonathan Villar knocks in two
Jonathan Villar doubled in two runs, walked and stole a base Monday against the Angels.

Advice: Villar has five steals in five games, raising his season total to seven. He's doing a great job of getting on base for the Brewers, and it now seems pretty likely that he'll remain a regular once Orlando Arcia gets the call, probably at third base. Monday, 8:46 pm
  • Crawford powers Giants to comeback win
Brandon Crawford's three-run homer in the seventh inning propelled the Giants to a comeback win over the Reds on Monday.

Advice: The Reds tagged Johnny Cueto for six runs in the third inning, but then the Big Dread Machine known as the Reds bullpen went to work. JC Ramirez and Drew Hayes were lit up for six runs over their two innings, highlighted by Crawford's bomb. The Giants shortstop also tacked on an RBI single in the ninth. Crawford is hitting .253/.343/.414 with three homers and 10 RBI. Monday, 8:04 pm
  • Lowrie (calf) available off bench Monday
Jed Lowrie (calf) is available off the bench Monday against the Mariners.

Advice: Lowrie is still dealing with a bit of a calf issue, so the A's are being cautious. Chris Coghlan is starting at second base Monday while Mark Canha will play third. Monday, 5:10 pm

  • Drew to serve as DH Monday vs. Royals
Stephen Drew will serve as the designated hitter Monday versus the Royals.

Advice: Nationals manager Dusty Baker said he's going with Drew because of his success vs. Edinson Volquez in the past. That success? 4-for-11 with four singles and a walk. Baker plans to rotate the DH spot for the rest of the series, with Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman also seeing time there. Monday, 3:23 pm
    5:05 pm @ChC
  • Cozart (knee) not expected to miss much time
Zack Cozart (knee) is not expected to miss much time.

Advice: Cozart gave the Reds a bit of a scare when he was forced to exit Sunday's game against the Pirates with an injury to his surgically-repaired right knee, but he's merely dealing with some tendinitis and should be fine. He could play on Monday, but the Reds are understandably being cautious with him. Consider him day-to-day. Monday, 1:11 pm
  • Ryan Flaherty expected to join O's on Tues.
Ryan Flaherty is expected to return to the Orioles' active roster on Tuesday.

Advice: Flaherty was just optioned to Norfolk a week ago, but the O's need him again to provide infield depth while J.J. Hardy recovers from a fracture in his foot. Paul Janish will also be worked into the mix once he returns from the Triple-A paternity leave list. Manny Machado could be the everyday guy at short. Monday, 12:15 pm

  • Hardy has a left foot fracture, out 6-8 weeks
J.J. Hardy has been diagnosed with a small fracture in his left foot and will be placed on the disabled list.

Advice: Hardy fouled a ball off the foot in the fourth inning Sunday and a CT scan taken Monday morning revealed a broken bone. MASN's Roch Kubatko says the Orioles are expecting this to be an absence of 6-8 weeks. Manny Machado moved from third base to shortstop Sunday and Pedro Alvarez took over at the hot corner. Ryan Flaherty and Paul Janish will likely factor into the mix at those positions over the next couple of months. Chris Davis can play a little third base too. Monday, 11:18 am

  • Zack Cozart (knee) not in Reds lineup Mon.
Zack Cozart (knee) is out of the Reds' starting lineup on Monday against the Giants.

Advice: Cozart left Sunday's series finale against the Pirates after suffering a right knee injury. He walked off the field under his own power, but it's the same knee Cozart had surgery on in 2015 so there's reason for concern. Look for more information from the Reds soon. Ivan DeJesus Jr. is starting at shortstop and batting second Monday versus Giants right-hander Johnny Cueto. Monday, 10:42 am
  • Red Sox send Marco Hernandez back to AAA
Red Sox optioned INF Marco Hernandez to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: The move opens up a roster spot for Carson Smith, who will join the Red Sox bullpen on Tuesday after missing the first month of the season with a flexor muscle strain. Hernandez was only in the majors for a couple days. Monday, 6:09 am

  • J.J. Hardy to undergo further tests on Monday
J.J. Hardy is scheduled to undergo a CT scan on his injured foot on Monday.

Advice: Hardy left Sunday's game after fouling a ball off of his left foot. O's skipper Buck Showalter indicated that the X-ray showed things, but wasn't specific about the severity of the injury. The club should have an update on his status after Monday's exam, but a trip to the disabled list wouldn't be surprising. Sunday, 2:05 pm

  • Manny Machado singles twice in lost cause
Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Machado was the only Oriole with more than one hit. As a team, they did not record an extra-base knock. The 23-year-old slugger is slashing a stupendous .350/.404/.660 with seven homers, 16 RBI and (already) 10 doubles. Almost half of his 35 hits have gone for extra bases. Sunday, 2:02 pm
  • Zack Cozart exits with apparent knee injury
Zack Cozart left Sunday's game against the Pirates with an apparent right knee injury.

Advice: Cozart reached on an error to start the top of the eighth inning but then was met by a trainer at second base. He appeared to point to his right knee and then walked off the field. It's the same knee that Cozart had ACL surgery on last season, so it's reasonable to have some concern. The Reds should have more on Cozart's status later Sunday. Sunday, 12:56 pm
  • J.J. Hardy exits after fouling ball off foot
J.J. Hardy departed Sunday's game against the White Sox after fouling a ball off his left foot.

Advice: It's unclear whether Hardy will undergo an X-ray or whether his exit was purely precautionary. The Orioles should have an update on their shortstop's status later Sunday. Sunday, 12:30 pm
    15-Day DL
    4:05 pm vs NYY
  • Jean Segura sitting out on Sunday
Jean Segura is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's just getting a day off. Phil Gosselin is at second base and in the leadoff spot. Welington Castillo and Jake Lamb are also on the bench, as the D'Backs have Chris Herrmann at catcher and Brandon Drury at third base. Sunday, 9:36 am
    4:10 pm @Mia
  • Escobar goes scoreless in loss to Mariners
Alcides Escobar went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: The speedy shortstop is mired in a bit of a slump, going 4-for-35 (.114) over his last eight games. Manager Ned Yost continues to pencil him in atop the lineup, though, which is about the only good thing the 29-year-old has going for his fantasy value at the moment. Saturday, 10:28 pm
  • Aledmys Diaz not in Cardinals starting lineup
Aledmys Diaz is not in the Cardinals starting lineup for Saturday's showdown against the Nationals.

Advice: Ruben Tejada will start in his place and bat seventh against opposing right-hander Joe Ross. Diaz, who is hitting a ridiculous .420/.452/.739 with four homers and 13 RBI on the season, should return to the lineup on Sunday. Saturday, 8:24 am
  • Red Sox recall Marco Hernandez from Triple-A
Red Sox recalled INF Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: The 23-year-old infielder appeared in one game with the Red Sox earlier this month, going 1-for-2 plus a walk in his three plate appearances. He provides depth on the bench for the Red Sox, but isn't expected to play enough to generate any type of fantasy value. Saturday, 5:58 am

  • Machado's grand slam helps O's down White Sox
Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, five RBI and three runs scored as the Orioles trounced the White Sox 10-2 on Thursday.

Advice: Machado jumped on a slider from reliever Jake Petricka in the sixth inning to turn a relatively close game into a blowout. The homer was his seventh of the season, tying him for second-most in the American League (including with his teammate Chris Davis). The 23-year-old has 16 RBI and 19 runs scored to go with a .333/.389/.678 line through 21 games. Thursday, 7:55 pm
  • Villar has three hits, three steals in loss
Jonathan Villar went 3-for-4 with a walk, three stolen bases, and two runs scored Thursday against the Cubs.

Advice: Domingo Santana got the day off Thursday, so Villar made his second start of the season out of the leadoff spot. He took advantage of the opportunity, increasing his batting average from .230 to .262 with his big day at the plate. He was also finally active on the base paths. The 24-year-old entered the day just 2-for-4 in stolen base attempts this season. Thursday, 5:51 pm
  • Holt not in Thursday's lineup
Brock Holt is not in Thursday's lineup against the Braves.

Advice: Chris Young will make the start in left field despite right-hander Jhoulys Chacin on the mound. Holt is batting just .188/.293/.229 over his last 14 games. Thursday, 1:23 pm

  • Aledmys Diaz stays scorching hot in Arizona
Aledmys Diaz had a homer, a walk, and a single in the Cardinals' 11-4 rout of Arizona on Wednesday.

Advice: Diaz finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, and he's now batting .468/.500/.823 with four home runs over his first 66 major league plate appearances. This incredible start from the 25-year-old Cuban shortstop is already in historic territory. Maybe it's time for Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to hit him higher than eighth. Wednesday, 10:22 pm
  • Cozart homers in loss to the Mets
Zack Cozart homered against the Mets on Wednesday, ultimately going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored.

Advice: Cozart mashed a 2-1 slider from Matt Harvey over the left-field wall to leadoff Wednesday night's game. It's been a hot start to the season for the shortstop. He's hitting .397/.388/.603 on the year with two homers and seven doubles. That .411 BABIP is going to come crashing down to earth; however, he's a good bet for double-digit homers if he can stay healthy. That's not something to sneeze at for a shortstop, either. Only 17 of them did that a year ago. Wednesday, 8:12 pm
  • Lowrie (calf) drives in run versus Tigers
Jed Lowrie (calf) went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: Lowrie missed a game this past weekend with a sore calf, but it was clearly nothing serious. The second baseman has 11 RBI in 20 games this season and he batted cleanup for Oakland on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. Wednesday, 6:03 am
    Player Note

  • Santana has three hits in second game back
Danny Santana went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Indians.

Advice: Santana got the start in center field and batted leadoff. It wasn't all good -- he was caught stealing in the ninth inning of a tie game, but was bailed out by his teammates -- but it's hard to complain too much after he missed the past two weeks with a strained right hamstring. With Byron Buxton at Triple-A, Santana should see more starts in center, and possibly more atop the lineup as well, in the weeks ahead. Tuesday, 8:15 pm
  • Xander Bogaerts gets three hits, two SBs
Xander Bogaerts went 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in Tuesday's win over the Braves.

Advice: Bogaerts adding steals to his game would be pretty sweet for fantasy owners. He's never had more than 10 in a season in the majors or minors but already has five this month. He also has his batting line up to .291/.341/.430 after a slow start. Tuesday, 8:01 pm
  • Marcus Semien homers as A's down Tigers
Marcus Semien smacked a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Tigers.

Advice: Semien's two-run blast off of Mike Pelfrey in the seventh inning essentially put the game out of reach. It was his fifth home run of the season, which is tops among all American League shortstops in the early going, although Semien is batting only .197/.270/.439 overall. Tuesday, 7:08 pm
  • Twins recall Jorge Polanco from AAA level
Twins recalled INF Jorge Polanco from Triple-A Rochester.

  • Jorge Polanco recalled from Rochester
Twins recalled INF Jorge Polanco from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Polanco has done a lot of traveling lately. In the last week, he's been promoted to Minnesota, sent down to Rochester and called back up again. The additions of Polanco and top prospect Jose Berrios suggest Ervin Santana (back) is headed to the disabled list. Tuesday, 11:25 am

  • Jean Segura homers to lead Diamondbacks
Jean Segura went 4-for-6 and hit his fourth homer Monday as the Diamondbacks topped the Cardinals 12-7.

Advice: Segura's homer was a three-run shot off Kevin Siegrist in the sixth. Segura has four homers in 91 at-bats this year after hitting six in 560 at-bats last season and five in 513 at-bats in 2014. He was playing in a better home run park then, too. He leads the NL with 32 hits this season. Monday, 11:03 pm
    4:10 pm @Mia
  • Cozart drives in two runs versus Mets
Zack Cozart drove in two runs in Monday’s loss to the Mets.

Advice: Cozart delivered a sacrifice fly in the third inning before hitting an RBI single in the seventh. The 30-year-old has only drawn one walk this season, so he's not an ideal fit for the leadoff spot, but it hasn't mattered much so far. He's batting .389 (21-for-54) through his first 14 games. Monday, 7:56 pm
  • O's option INF Flaherty to Triple-A
Orioles optioned INF Ryan Flaherty to Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: The move clears a spot for Kevin Gausman to make his season debut Monday. The Orioles will go short-handed on their bench for the time being. Monday, 3:10 pm

  • Corey Seager not in Monday's lineup
Corey Seager is not in Monday's lineup against the Marlins.

Advice: He'll get a day off with lefty Wei-Yin Chen on the mound. Charlie Culberson will start at shortstop and bat eighth. Monday, 3:06 pm
  • Twins activate OF Danny Santana from the DL
Twins activated OF Danny Santana from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Santana missed two weeks with a strained right hamstring. He will return Monday to a semi-regular role in the Minnesota outfield with Byron Buxton getting sent to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding roster move. Santana has some fantasy appeal as a base-stealer, but we wouldn't expect much consistency in any statistical department from the 25-year-old. Monday, 12:25 pm
