  • Crawford goes yard on two-hit night
Brandon Crawford roped a solo home run on a two-hit night as the Giants lost to the Braves on Saturday.

Advice: The shortstop was batting in the clean-up spot tonight and obliged by hitting his 12th home run of the season. The solo shot gave the Giants an early lead but they couldn't hold on. Crawford carries a .274 batting average with 75 RBI and 55 runs scored. Yesterday, 9:23 pm
  • Ramirez goes 3-for-4 with a triple Saturday
Jose Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a triple as the Indians got shut out by the Rangers on Saturday.

Advice: He grabbed three of the Indians' seven total hits. Known as a slick fielder with a weak bat as a prospect, Ramirez has disproven that notion by breaking out at the plate this year. He is now batting .310 with 10 homers, 58 RBI and 70 runs scored in 120 games. His 20 stolen bags are perhaps his most valuable fantasy contribution this year. Yesterday, 8:56 pm

  • Bregman hits a two-run bomb versus Rays
Alex Bregman continued his hot streak, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in a win over the Rays on Saturday.

Advice: The homer came in the third inning with George Springer aboard. In the fourth inning he drove in Marwin Gonzalez with a single to center. Bregman's slash line is improving on a daily basis and now sits at .242/.301/.435 in 30 games since being called up from the minors. That represents a nice recovery from the epic slump that started his career. The home run was his 5th -- all of them coming in his last 11 games. Yesterday, 7:52 pm
  • Beckham goes 3-for-4 on Saturday
Tim Beckham drew a start at first base and went 3-for-4 with a double in a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

Advice: One of the hits was a double but none of his three hits factored into the scoring. He was the first overall pick of the 2008 draft but failed to develop into anything more than a utility infielder in the major leagues. He is batting .235/.285/.433 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 187 at-bats on the season. Yesterday, 7:43 pm
  • Cabrera has three hits, homer in win over PHI
Asdrubal Cabrera continued his hot hitting on Saturday against the Phillies by going 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk, and two runs scored.

Advice: Cabrera has three homers over his last two games and is now up to 16 for the year, which is one more than his total from all of last season. The bleach-blonde infielder has been red-hot since returning from his knee injury, hitting .438 (14-for-32) over eight games. Yesterday, 7:22 pm
  • Galvis slugs homer in loss to Mets
Freddy Galvis slugged a solo homer in Saturday’s loss to the Mets.

Advice: His third-inning blast was the only offense the Phillies could muster against Noah Syndergaard and the Mets’ bullpen. In fact, they managed just three hits. Galvis has three homers in his last seven games and is now up to 14 homers and 12 steals through 126 games overall. While he has an ugly .233/.266/.380 batting line, he has managed to salvage some value in deeper fantasy formats. Yesterday, 7:21 pm
  • Segura exits game due to illness
Jean Segura exited Saturday's game against the Reds due to illness.

Advice: Segura walked in his lone plate appearance before leaving the game. Consider him day-to-day for now. Brandon Drury replaced him at second base. Yesterday, 6:42 pm

  • Seager slugs solo homer in win over Cubs
Corey Seager slugged a solo homer in Saturday’s win over the Cubs.

Advice: Seager finished the day 1-for-4. He’s now up to 23 home runs on the year to go along with a .322/.376/.545 batting line. The Rookie of the Year Award appears to be a lock at this point and he could even get some love for the NL MVP Award. Yesterday, 4:44 pm
  • Cozart (knee, heel) returns to Reds' lineup
Zack Cozart (knee, heel) is back in the Reds' lineup Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Cozart missed seven games with knee and heel injuries before returning as a pinch-hitter on Friday night. He's back at shortstop and hitting second against D'Backs right-hander Zack Godley. Cozart has already matched a career-high with 15 homers this season. Yesterday, 2:20 pm
  • Brad Miller not in Rays lineup on Saturday
Brad Miller is not in the Rays starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Nothing more than a routine day of rest for the power-hitting infielder. Tim Beckham is drawing the start in his place at first base and will bat fifth against Dallas Keuchel and the Astros on Saturday. Yesterday, 12:19 pm

  • Tigers activate Jose Iglesias from 15-day DL
Tigers activated SS Jose Iglesias from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: He's active and with the club for Saturday's game against the Angels. With Erick Aybar filling in nicely in his absence, it'll be interesting to see how playing time is dished out in the coming weeks. Iglesias missed over two weeks of action with an injured hamstring. Yesterday, 12:15 pm
  • Zack Cozart collects double as pinch hitter
Zack Cozart (knee, heel) collected a double as a pinch hitter in Friday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Cozart had missed over a week's worth of games due to his various ailments, but was available off of the bench on Friday and is expected to rejoin the starting lineup on Saturday. The hard-hitting shortstop is slashing .265/.315/.446 with 15 homers and 46 RBI on the season. Yesterday, 5:23 am
  • Correa hits game-tying homer vs. Rays
Carlos Correa connected for a game-tying solo homer Friday against the Rays.

Advice: The Rays grabbed the lead with a solo homer from Mikie Mahtook in the top of the ninth inning before Correa led off the bottom of the frame with a home run of his own. Evan Gattis quickly followed with a walk-off homer to give the Astros the win in dramatic fashion. Correa is now up to 19 homers and 88 RBI through 124 games this season. Friday, 10:07 pm
  • Sardinas homers, drives in four in loss
Luis Sardinas went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, four RBI, and two runs scored in Friday’s loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Sardinas just missed a grand slam in the fourth inning, but he settled for a bases-clearing double. He didn’t miss in his next at-bat, as he took Mike Dunn deep for a solo blast in the sixth inning. The 23-year-old was recently acquired from the Mariners and should get a chance to show what he can do at shortstop down the stretch, though we aren't expecting much in the way of fantasy value. Friday, 9:17 pm
  • Jordy Mercer's grand slam powers Pirates
Jordy Mercer blasted a grand slam in the sixth inning on Thursday, powering the Pirates to a 5-3 victory over Matt Garza and the Brewers.

Advice: Garza and Pirates' starter Ryan Vogelsong had been engaged in a scoreless pitcher's duel through five innings, until Mercer and the Pirates erupted in the sixth inning. It was Mercer's lone hit in four at-bats on the evening. The lefty-masher is now hitting .264/.341/.386 with 10 homers and 49 RBI on the season. Friday, 8:51 pm
  • Orlando Arcia belts first career homer Friday
Orlando Arcia belted the first home run of his big league career on Friday as the Brewers fell to the Pirates.

Advice: His three-run shot off of Ryan Vogelsong got the Brewers on the board in the sixth inning, but it would wind up being the extent of their offense in the ballgame. The rookie shortstop finished the night 1-for-4 and is now hitting a paltry .185/.267/.284 with eight RBI on the year. Friday, 8:40 pm
  • Cabrera homers twice in win over Phillies
Asdrubal Cabrera homered from both sides of the plate Friday against the Phillies.

Advice: Cabrera launched a solo homer from the right side in the first inning before socking a two-run blast from the left side in the sixth. It was his fifth career multi-homer game. He’s now up to 15 homers on the year, which matches his total from all of last season. Friday, 7:28 pm
  • Flores slugs grand slam in win over Phillies
Wilmer Flores slugged a grand slam in Friday’s victory over the Phillies.

Advice: It was his only hit in four at-bats on Friday, but it was a huge one, as his fifth-inning blast extended the Mets’ lead to 6-1. They added three more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Flores hasn’t done much against right-handers this season, but he continues to mash lefties. 10 of his 14 homers have come against left-handers. Friday, 7:27 pm

  • Hernandez has two-run double vs. Mets
Cesar Hernandez delivered a two-run double and scored a run Friday against the Mets.

Advice: Hernandez went 1-for-5 on the night. The 26-year-old had a lowly .248 batting average back on June 20, but he’s hitting .348 over his last 53 games and has claimed the leadoff spot in the Phillies’ lineup. He can be erratic on the bases at times, but he’s capable of helping mixed fantasy leagues right now. Friday, 7:26 pm
  • Machado homers twice in loss to Yankees
Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI in Friday’s loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Machado was the only bright spot on this night for Baltimore, as he slugged a solo homer in the first inning before going deep again in the sixth, this time for a two-run blast. This was the ninth multi-homer game of his career and his third of the season. He’s batting .305/.358/.564 with 31 homers and 81 RBI through 123 games on the year. While the speed hasn’t been for fantasy owners, he’s poised to blow away his career-highs in the power department. Friday, 7:17 pm
  • Cozart expected to return to lineup Saturday
Zack Cozart (knee, heel) is expected to rejoin the Reds starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Cozart has missed more than a week's worth of action due to knee and heel ailments. He is available off of the bench on Friday and should take his rightful place at shortstop for Saturday's contest against the Diamondbacks. Friday, 4:13 pm
  • Iglesias (hamstring) to be activated Sat.
Jose Iglesias (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

Advice: The feeling had been that he'd return Friday, but the Tigers will give him an extra day. Iglesias has missed the last couple weeks with a hamstring issue. Friday, 1:21 pm
  • Marcus Semien back from paternity leave
Athletics activated SS Marcus Semien from the paternity leave list.

Advice: Semien and his wife had a baby boy earlier this week. He's taking the roster spot of Marc Rzepczynski, who was traded to the Nationals on Thursday. Friday, 10:24 am
  • Seager ends no-no with ninth-inning single
Corey Seager picked up a dunker of a single with two outs in the ninth inning of Thursday's loss to the Giants, ending Matt Moore's no-hit bid in the process.

Advice: Seager stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth having previously walked against Moore. He would deny him the no-hitter with a little flare single that landed in right field. For the season as a whole, Seager has done quite a bit more than just dunk singles left and right. He is slashing a meaty .322/.377/.538 with 22 homers, 61 RBI and 86 runs scored over 494 at-bats. Thursday, 10:40 pm
  • Franklin (concussion) to return this weekend
Nick Franklin (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte on Friday.

Advice: Franklin expects to join the Rays in Houston later this weekend so it looks like he'll only need a game or two in the minors to get back up to speed. He suffered a concussion last week after getting hit by Kevin Kiermaier's backswing in the on-deck circle. Franklin has hit .292 with six steals in 34 appearances for Tampa Bay this year. • Danny Santana goes 0-for-4 in loss
Danny Santana went 0-for-4 on Thursday and is 1-for-18 over the Twins' last five games.

Advice: Yes, the Twins' last five games. He's started them all, for some bizarre reason. Santana is hitting .240 with 14 extra-base hits and 12 walks in 229 at-bats, yet he's an everyday player at the moment, mostly starting in the outfield corners. Before he played center today, each of his previous 12 starts had been in left or right. Thursday, 1:41 pm
  • Blue Jays option Ryan Goins back to AAA
Blue Jays optioned INF Ryan Goins to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: The move clears a 25-man roster spot for Jose Bautista, who was activated from the disabled list in a corresponding move. Goins has batted just .186/.231/.314 in 184 plate appearances this season with Toronto. Thursday, 12:51 pm

  • Iglesias (hamstring) could be activated Fri.
Jose Iglesias (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Advice: Iglesias is 4-for-12 with a homer in three rehab games with Triple-A Toledo. The shortstop has been sidelined since August 12 because of a left hamstring strain. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Thursday that he plans to keep Erick Aybar active even when Iglesias returns, for what it's worth. Thursday, 8:54 am
  • Red Sox recall Marco Hernandez from AAA
Red Sox recalled INF Marco Hernandez from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: He'll provide depth for the Boston bench with Andrew Benintendi (knee, ankle) landing on the disabled list Thursday. Hernandez is 13-for-44 this year in the majors. Thursday, 8:21 am
  • Tim Beckham (hamstring) remains out Thurs.
Tim Beckham (hamstring) remains out of the Rays' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon.

Advice: Beckham made an early exit Tuesday after experiencing tightness in his left hamstring and did not play Wednesday. He usually starts somewhere when the Rays face a left-handed pitcher, but the versatile 26-year-old is on the bench Thursday versus Red Sox southpaw Drew Pomeranz. Thursday, 7:39 am
  • Saladino (back) singles, steals base
Tyler Saladino (back) singled in three at-bats and stole a base on Wednesday.

Advice: Saladino had missed four straight games due to back soreness. It obviously wasn't anything too serious. He's hitting .258/.295/.385 with 10 steals in 70 games this season as a utilityman for the White Sox. Thursday, 5:51 am

  • Brock Holt (oblique) hitless in return Wed.
Brock Holt (oblique) went hitless in three at-bats Wednesday in his return to the Red Sox lineup.

Advice: It was the first game in five days for Holt, who has been battling oblique tightness. He might be looking at a bigger workload for the stretch run with starting left fielder Andrew Benintendi (knee, ankle) possibly done for the season. Chris Young will also draw starts in left, but he struggles against right-handed pitching. Thursday, 5:45 am

  • Machado finishes 4-for-6 with two-run bomb
Manny Machado went 4-for-6 with a homer and four total RBI to lead the Orioles over the Nationals 10-8 on Wednesday.

Advice: Machado's two-run bomb in the first inning set the tone for the high-scoring night. He then added run-scoring singles in the second and eighth innings. The four hits raised his batting average to .306 in 494 at-bats. The home run was his 29th. Machado has scored 87 runs and driven in 78. He has yet to steal a base after swiping 20 last year, but that's kind of a side concern at this point for his fantasy owners. Wednesday, 9:13 pm
  • Bregman doubles again as Astros top Pirates
Alex Bregman hit another double Wednesday in the Astros' 5-4 defeat of the Pirates.

Advice: That's the ninth double and 13th extra-base hit in the last 18 games for Bregman, who is having a big August after struggling out of the gate following his July 25 promotion to the major leagues. The 22-year-old top prospect looks like a must-own in standard leagues for the stretch run. He had a .469 OPS nine days ago. It's now up to 694. Wednesday, 12:50 pm
  • Cozart (knee, heel) remains sidelined Wed.
Zack Cozart (knee, heel) remains out Wednesday.

Advice: Cozart has now missed a full week due to soreness in his right knee and Achilles. The hot-hitting Jose Peraza will get another start at shortstop versus the Rangers. Wednesday, 11:24 am
  • Athletics place Semien on paternity leave
Athletics placed SS Marcus Semien on the paternity leave list.

Advice: Semien and his wife Tarah welcomed a son on Monday night. He should be back for the start of a three-game weekend series Friday night at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Wednesday, 9:21 am
  • Carlos Correa (illness) in Astros lineup Wed.
Carlos Correa (illness) is in the Astros' starting lineup Wednesday against the Pirates.

Advice: Correa made an early exit from Tuesday night's loss with a stomach bug, but he apparently felt refreshed when he showed back up at Pittsburgh's PNC Park on Wednesday morning. He'll start at shortstop and bat cleanup in the afternoon finale versus Gerrit Cole. Wednesday, 7:24 am
  • Flores hits three-run shot in win over Cards
Wilmer Flores hit a three-run home run as the Mets bested the Cardinals 7-4 on Tuesday.

Advice: Getting a start against a lefty as per usual, Flores turned on an inside fastball in the first inning for the three-run dinger. It was his only hit in the game and Flores' 13th homer of the year. With first base still a big question mark and Flores' ability to hit left-handed pitching, the 25-year-old should continue to draw starts at the less-hot corner going forward. Flores is hitting .259/.315/.447 in 87 games total. Tuesday, 10:00 pm

  • Cabrera collects three more hits since return
Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Garcia now has two RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in four games since being activated from the disabled list on August 19. He's 6-for-16 in those four games, raising his overall line to .260/.310/.414 with 13 homers, 35 RBI and 43 runs scored. The stolen base, swiped against the great Yadier Molina as part of a double steal, was just Cabrera's second on the year. Tuesday, 9:52 pm
  • Saladino still sidelined by back discomfort
Tyler Saladino missed a fourth straight start Tuesday due to back soreness.

Advice: But the 27-year-old infielder did say Tuesday that it's "feeling better." Saladino hasn't appeared in a game for the White Sox since last Thursday. He had been serving as their primary starter at second base with Brett Lawrie (hamstring, quad, knee) on the disabled list. Tuesday, 8:56 pm

  • Galvis swats 13th homer in loss to White Sox
Freddy Galvis hit his 13th home run of the year in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.

Advice: Galvis hit the solo shot in the seventh inning, the only Phillies run on the night. The 13 home runs are easily a career high for the 26-year-old, who had just 20 in parts of four seasons coming into 2016. Despite the sudden power, Galvis is hitting a disappointing .233/.265/.375 overall. Tuesday, 8:17 pm
  • Beckham leaves game with tight hamstring
Tim Beckham left Tuesday's game against the Red Sox with a tight left hamstring.

Advice: He was replaced in the lineup by Richie Shaffer before the top of the eighth inning, finishing the night 1-for-3 with a single. Beckham will be reevaluated by the Rays' medical team on Wednesday. Tuesday, 7:11 pm
  • Correa left game early Tuesday due to illness
Carlos Correa was lifted from Tuesday's loss to the Pirates due to illness.

Advice: Correa has been battling a stomach bug and was 0-for-3 when Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided to pull him with his team trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning. They went on to lose 7-1. Alex Bregman moved from third base to shortstop and Marwin Gonzalez took over at the hot corner. Correa might have to be held out of Wednesday afternoon's series finale in Pittsburgh. Tuesday, 6:57 pm
  • Semien (paternity) likely out until Friday
Marcus Semien (paternity leave) is not expected back until Friday.

Advice: Semien was excused from the A's on Monday to welcome a child and will remain absent Tuesday and Wednesday. Oakland kicks off a weekend series in St. Louis on Friday. Tuesday, 4:26 pm
  • Padres call up INF Sardinas
Padres recalled INF Luis Sardinas from Triple-A El Paso.

Advice: He'll replace the injured Jabari Blash (finger) on the active roster. Sardinas was just acquired from the Mariners last week and owns a lowly .218/.257/.268 batting line in the majors. He figures to serve in a utility infielder role. Monday, 3:36 pm
  • Semien not in Monday's lineup
Marcus Semien is not in Monday's lineup against the Indians.

Advice: Semien is expected to be placed on the paternity leave list soon, though it's not clear if he has officially left the team yet. Chad Pinder will start in his place at shortstop while Max Muncy will play second base. Monday, 3:31 pm
  • Seager goes 4-for-5 with a homer in win
Corey Seager went 4-for-5 with homer, a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored in Monday’s blowout win over the Reds.

Advice: Seager slugged a two-run blast off Josh Smith in the fifth inning before driving in another run with a single in the eighth. The rookie shortstop has five multi-hit games in his last six and is hitting .385 during the second half. He's batting .321/.375/.540 with 22 homers and 61 RBI on the year. Monday, 1:45 pm
  • Cozart (knee, heel) out until Wednesday?
Reds manager Bryan Price said Zack Cozart (knee, heel) probably won't be ready Tuesday.

Advice: Cozart is out for a fifth straight game Monday with soreness in his right knee and Achilles and it sounds like he'll get an additional day off healing on Tuesday, but the hope remains that he won't require a trip to the disabled list. Jose Peraza is starting at shortstop for the Reds on Monday versus Dodgers left-hander Scott Kazmir. Monday, 8:44 am
  • Zack Cozart (knee, heel) remains out Monday
Zack Cozart (knee, heel) remains out of the Reds' starting lineup on Monday afternoon.

Advice: Cozart hasn't appeared in a game since last Wednesday due to soreness in his right knee and Achilles, but he is expected to avoid the disabled list. Jose Peraza will start at shortstop and bat second Monday versus Dodgers left-hander Scott Kazmir. Monday, 6:50 am
  • Carlos Correa plates two in victory Sunday
Carlos Correa went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI as the Astros topped the Orioles 5-3 in a rain-soaked contest on Sunday.

Advice: Correa's two-run double in the fifth inning increased the Astros advantage to 4-1 and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. He also swiped his 11th base of the season in the ballgame. With his two-hit day, Correa is now hitting .272/.365/.468 with 18 homers and 86 RBI on the year. Aug 21, 6:01 pm
  • Jose Ramirez clocks go-ahead homer in eighth
Jose Ramirez connected for a go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning of Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Ramirez came up clutch with a two-run homer off reliever Brett Cecil with two outs in the eighth inning, flipping a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead and eventual win. The Tribe took two of three games in the weekend series, with Ramirez proving instrumental in both wins. In addition to Sunday's heroics, he also notched a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning of Friday's victory. The 23-year-old third baseman has been nothing short of phenomenal of late and has picked up hits in nine of his last 10 games. For the season as a whole, Ramirez is slashing .310/.365/.461 with 10 homers, 57 RBI and 20 steals across 415 at-bats. Aug 21, 1:30 pm

  • Zack Cozart (knee, Achilles) out again Sunday
Zack Cozart (knee, Achilles) remained out of the Reds' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He hasn't played since Wednesday due to soreness in his right knee and Achilles. Jose Peraza is again filling in at shortstop and in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. The Reds are also giving Joey Votto and Scott Schebler a breather Sunday, as Ivan DeJesus Jr. is at first base and Tyler Holt is in right field. Aug 21, 7:22 am
  • Hernandez homers among three hits vs. Cards
Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to help the Phillies double up the Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday.

Advice: Given that Hernandez has nine triples this season, it's actually worth saying that he finished just a triple shy of the cycle in the game. The homer was his fourth of the year, giving him 30 RBI and 49 runs scored. The 26-year-old has fairly quietly put up a nice season at the dish, batting .298/.358/.400 after Saturday's win. Aug 20, 8:25 pm
  • Bregman goes 3-for-6 with a two-run homer
Alex Bregman went 3-for-6 and blasted a two-run homer as the Astros beat the Orioles on Saturday.

Advice: George Springer led off the game with a walk and Bregman followed that with a home run to give the Astros a quick lead they would keep adding to all night. The 22-year-old started his career with a horrible slump but is quickly making that a distant memory. He has been on fire lately and his slash line now looks respectable despite the rough start. He is batting .238/.291/.396 with three homers in 101 at-bats. Aug 20, 7:57 pm

Advice: Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot earlier in the week and was forced to sit out a pair of games. He's back in the leadoff spot in the Phillies lineup for Saturday's showdown against Luke Weaver and the Cardinals. Aug 20, 12:54 pm
  • Cozart (Achilles) remains out of Reds lineup
Zack Cozart (knee, Achilles) remains out of the Reds starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Jose Peraza was recalled from Triple-A and will start in his place at shortstop, batting second for the Reds. Cozart is still considered day-to-day and isn't yet considered a candidate for the disabled list. Aug 20, 11:53 am
  • Brock Holt leaves with left oblique soreness
Brock Holt was forced to leave Friday's game against the Tigers with left oblique soreness.

Advice: Red Sox manager John Farrell indicated that Holt only feels the injury when he throws. It wouldn't be surprising to see him rest on Saturday as a precautionary measure, though he could be available as a pinch hitter or runner off of the bench. Aug 20, 5:59 am

  • Jean Segura goes 5-for-6 in loss
Jean Segura finished 5-for-6 with three steals Friday against the Padres.

Advice: One Dave Stewart move that's worked out was the Segura acquisition; Segura is hitting .321 after coming in at .246 and .257 in his last two years in Milwaukee. He also has as many homers (11) and doubles (31) as the last two years combined. Aug 19, 11:47 pm

  • Seager has nice night in loss to Reds
Corey Seager went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, two walks, and a run scored Friday versus the Reds.

Advice: Seager has now hit safely in 10 straight games. Eight of them have been multi-hit games. He has pulled his batting average up to .313, which is the highest it's been since early April. With Trevor Story done for the year, Seager would appear to have a clear path to the NL Rookie of the Year Award. Aug 19, 8:54 pm
  • Rays place Nick Franklin on concussion DL
Rays placed INF/OF Nick Franklin on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Advice: Franklin suffered a head injury on Wednesday when he was hit by the backswing from Kevin Kiermaier while standing in the on-deck circle. While he passed all of his concussion tests and was cleared to play on Friday, something clearly wasn't right when he entered as a defensive replacement, lasting only two innings before leaving the game himself. At this point, there's no clear timetable for his potential return. Aug 19, 7:36 pm

  • Ramirez hits game-tying homer vs. Jays
Jose Ramirez launched a game-tying solo homer in the ninth inning Friday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: His homer set the stash for Tyler Naquin to walk it off with an inside-the-park home run. Ramirez went 1-for-4 on the night and continues to be a pleasant surprise for the Indians and fantasy owners. Boosted by a red-hot August, he’s slashing .311/.367/.457 with nine homers, 54 RBI, 20 steals, and 67 runs scored through 112 games. Aug 19, 6:54 pm

  • Nick Franklin (head) leaves game on Friday
Nick Franklin (head) was removed from Friday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Franklin, who passed concussion tests and was available off of the bench, entered the game when Kevin Kiermaier was lifted with a hip injury. He was replaced himself just two innings later though, and no reason has been given for the departure. There's a good chance that the issue could be related to the head injury he sustained on Wednesday when he was struck inadvertently by a teammate's backswing. Aug 19, 5:46 pm

  • Mets activate Asdrubal Cabrera from 15-day DL
Mets activated INF Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: He's back in the lineup on Friday night, as is lineup-mate Yoenis Cespedes. Cabrera returns to a .255/.308/.410 slash line on the season, where he has been a solid performer and capable run producer. His bat has been sorely missed in the Mets lineup. Aug 19, 5:16 pm
  • X-ray on Cesar Hernandez's foot is negative
An X-ray on Cesar Hernandez's right foot came back clean.

Zack Cozart (knee, Achilles) has been scratched from the Reds' lineup.

Advice: Cozart had been set to return after missing a game with soreness in his surgically-repaired and also his Achilles, but apparently he's not quite ready yet. Ivan De Jesus Jr. will handle the shortstop duties again. Aug 19, 11:46 am

  • Jean Segura raps two-run homer in loss
Jean Segura went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Padres.

Advice: Segura scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch by Paul Clemens in the first inning. The 26-year-old second baseman would do louder damage with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. For the season, Segura is slashing .315/.362/.473 with 11 homers, 47 RBI and 24 steals. On the micro level, he is 7-for-14 over his last three games. Aug 18, 11:23 pm

  • Rodon limits Indians to two runs over six
Carlos Rodon held the Indians to two runs over six innings in a no-decision Thursday.

Advice: As has been the case more than a few times this year, Rodon deserved better than the fate he sustained after the White Sox bullpen relinquished his lead. Before exiting, Rodon had scattered eight hits without walking a batter and striking out five. Without the win, Rodon remains 3-8 with a 4.26 ERA through 20 starts. The good news for the southpaw is that he's pitched well in his past three starts, even if he's just 1-0 in that span. Rodon will try for that elusive fourth win when he takes on the Phillies on Wednesday. Aug 18, 9:16 pm

  • Cesar Hernandez dealing with right foot issue
Cesar Hernandez missed Thursday's win over the Dodgers with a right foot injury.

Advice: Hernandez fouled a ball off his foot earlier this week and is still feeling the effects. He was in the Phillies' original starting lineup for Thursday night but was scratched just before first pitch. Taylor Featherston filled in and went 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Hernandez is day-to-day. Aug 18, 7:56 pm
  • Machado homers, drives in three versus Astros
Manny Machado went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in a win over the Astros on Thursday.

Advice: Machado swatted one of the Orioles' six homers on the evening. The dinger was his 27th of the season, giving him 72 RBI and 83 runs scored. He's cooled from his early season pace -- how could he not have, batting .334 with a 1.001 OPS through June -- but the 24-year-old is now hitting .304/.361/.552 overall. Aug 18, 7:54 pm
  • Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) to be activated Friday
The Mets will activate Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) from the 15-day disabled list on Friday.

Advice: Yoenis Cespedes (quad) will also come off the DL on Friday. The Mets were originally planning to activate Cabrera on Thursday but they decided to wait another 24 hours. Cabrera missed a couple weeks with a strained patellar tendon. He sports a pedestrian .255/.308/.410 slash line over 373 at-bats this season. Aug 18, 5:12 pm
  • Cesar Hernandez a last-minute scratch Thursday
Cesar Hernandez was a late scratch Thursday against the Dodgers.

Advice: The reason for his absence is unknown. Taylor Featherston will sub in for Hernandez at second base and bat eighth against Dodgers right-hander Ross Stripling. The Phillies should have an update on Hernandez's status after the game. Aug 18, 4:16 pm
  • Red Sox option Marco Hernandez to AAA
Red Sox optioned INF Marco Hernandez to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Advice: Hernandez was only in the majors for a couple days this time around and did not see a plate appearance. He is 13-for-44 this season at the major league level. Aug 18, 7:28 am
  • Asdrubal Cabrera (knee) returning Thursday
