  • Rays place OF Jennings on release waivers
The Rays have placed Desmond Jennings on release waivers.

Advice: He'll officially become a free agent on Monday, assuming he clears waivers (which will surely happen given his $3.3 million salary). It ends a seven-year run with the Rays that included many highs and lows. There were definitely more lows with Jennings of late, as he's batted just .222/.295/.347 since the beginning of 2015 while being limited to 93 games because of injury. Some team will give him a shot, but Jennings will turn 30 in October and hasn't been a very good player for a while. Rotoworld.com 24 minutes ago

  • Trayce Thompson (back) to be re-examined
Trayce Thompson (back) will be re-examined on Monday or Tuesday in hopes of gaining clearance for increased activities.

Advice: Thompson hasn't been able to do much since being diagnosed with two stress fractures in his lower back earlier this month. The outfielder said Saturday that he feels "great" and is still hopeful of returning at some point this season, but it's not a given. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:38 am

  • Colby Rasmus (ear) might not need rehab
Colby Rasmus (ear) might not need a rehab assignment before rejoining the Astros.

Advice: Rasmus on Saturday ran and went through a normal pre-game routine for a second time. He's eligible to return now but it's possible the Astros could wait until rosters expand. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:33 am

  • Evan Gattis not in Sunday's lineup

  • Julio Borbon designated for assignment
Orioles designated OF Julio Borbon for assignment.

Advice: Borbon was just re-added to the roster on Saturday but is out of a job again with the Orioles needing fresh relief arms. He's 3-for-14 in the majors this season. Rotoworld.com Today, 8:20 am
  • Jayson Werth getting a breather Sunday
Jayson Werth is not in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's just receiving some rest. Ben Revere is in left field in Werth's place. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:50 am
  • Herrmann (hamstring) on track for Sept. 1
Chris Herrmann (hamstring) could return from the disabled list when rosters expand on September 1.

Advice: Herrmann has been catching and playing the outfield while on a rehab assignment and hasn't had any setbacks with his hamstring. He could see some playing time in the outfield down the stretch. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:22 am

  • Jon Jay (forearm) moved to 60-day DL
Padres transferred OF Jon Jay from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Oswaldo Arcia. It doesn't change Jay's early September timetable, as he's already missed 60 days. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:17 am

  • Nick Franklin activated from concussion DL
Rays activated INF/OF Nick Franklin from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

  • Hernan Perez homers twice in loss to Pirates
Hernan Perez homered twice and drove home four runs on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Brewers to victory over the Pirates.

Advice: Perez got the scoring started with a three-run blast off Jameson Taillon in the first inning, and he added a solo shot off the right-hander in the third. That gave the Brewers an early 5-1 lead, though they were unable to hold onto it. Perez has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball this season, slashing .281/.308/.470 with 13 homers, 47 RBI and 26 stolen bases. He has come from nowhere to develop into a very capable five-category producer in mixed leagues. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:32 pm

  • Pence (hamstring) had MRI on Saturday
Hunter Pence (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Saturday.

Advice: Pence hasn't played since he left Thursday's game with right hamstring tightness, but it doesn't appear to be a major concern. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said it's realistic he could return Tuesday, but that Pence could push to play sooner. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 4:59 pm

  • Hunter Pence (hamstring) out again Saturday
Hunter Pence (hamstring) is not in the Giants' lineup Saturday against the Braves.

Advice: Pence hasn't played since leaving Thursday's game with hamstring tightness. Gorkys Hernandez will draw the start in right field Saturday while batting eighth against Braves righty Mike Foltynewicz. The Giants are hoping Pence will return for Sunday's series finale. • Oswaldo Arcia resurfaces with Padres
Padres claimed OF Oswaldo Arcia off waivers from the Marlins.

Advice: It's his fourth team in a span of three months. He'll draw the start in right field Saturday and bat sixth against his former team, the Marlins. Arcia has struggled to a .226 average with six homers and 19 RBI in 55 games for the Marlins, Rays and Twins. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:05 pm
  • Justin Ruggiano (shoulder) heads to 15-day DL
Mets placed OF Justin Ruggiano on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder discomfort.

Advice: Ruggiano was lifted from Friday's game against the Phillies and evidently the team felt his injury was significant enough to keep him out for at least 15 days. T.J. Rivera, who was sent down on Friday, is headed back to the big leagues. Ruggiano has hit .333 with two homers and seven RBI across 24 at-bats this season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:15 pm

  • Scott Van Slyke to undergo wrist surgery
Scott Van Slyke is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist.

Advice: He sustained the injury in May and there had been hope that he could rehab and return before the end of the season, but they'll opt for surgery instead. He should be fully recovered and ready to go for spring training. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:22 am

  • Orioles purchase contract of Julio Borbon
Orioles purchased the contract of OF Julio Borbon from Double-A Bowie.

Advice: With Adam Jones sidelined with a hamstring injury, Borbon is being added once again to provide depth in the outfield, specifically another option who can handle center field defensively. The 30-year-old is just 2-for-9 in his limited time with the O's this season. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:27 am
  • Jorge Soler goes 0-for-4
Jorge Soler went 0-for-4 before being lifted from Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: He also had a really ugly play in left field in which a ball that should have been caught bounced in front of him and then by him. It didn't hurt the Cubs, though, since it came with two outs and no one on and the next batter was retired. Still, Soler's glove is a problem and he's cooled off some of late after his fast start in his return from the DL. He might be a bit player down the stretch. Rotoworld.com Friday, 11:01 pm
  • Gattis hits dramatic walk-off HR vs. Rays
Evan Gattis slugged a walk-off solo homer in Friday’s 5-4 victory over the Rays.

Advice: Carlos Correa led off the bottom of the ninth with a game-tying solo homer off Alex Colome and Gattis followed him with a long home run which hit the train behind the Crawford Boxes in left field. The 30-year-old went 2-for-4 with two RBI on the evening. He has gone deep in back-to-back games and now sits at 21 homers on the year. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:09 pm

  • Ruggiano leaves game with shoulder injury
Justin Ruggiano was forced to leave Friday's game due to left shoulder discomfort.

Advice: It's unclear at the moment just how severe the injury is or how much time the outfielder will stand to miss. Add him to the lengthy list of walking wounded that the Mets have been forced to deal with this season. Rotoworld.com Friday, 6:01 pm

  • Pence should avoid DL, hopes to play Saturday
Hunter Pence (hamstring) indicated feeling much better on Friday and hopes to return to the Giants lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Even if he sits out Saturday's game as a precautionary measure, he should have no problem returning on Sunday. Pence is hitting .273/.341/.422 with eight homers and 41 RBI in 74 games in what has been an injury-plagued season for the Giants' right fielder. Rotoworld.com Friday, 4:31 pm

Hunter Pence (hamstring) is not in the Giants starting lineup on Friday.

  • Rays to release Desmond Jennings on Saturday
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Rays plan on releasing Desmond Jennings on Saturday.

Advice: Once considered one of the most promising young outfielders in the game, the 29-year-old has battled injuries and poor performance for much of the past three seasons. In 65 games this year, Jennings hit just .200/.281/.350 with seven homers, 20 RBI and a 58/21 K/BB ratio in 225 plate appearances. Still, he's only 29-years-old and there should be plenty of clubs willing to take a chance on him. Rotoworld.com Friday, 3:26 pm

  • Hunter Pence injures right hamstring Thursday
Hunter Pence said that he is dealing with tightness in his right hamstring.

Advice: Pence was lifted for a defensive replacement in the middle innings of Thursday's win over the Dodgers. He will be reevaluated on Friday, but a disabled list stint would be in the cards if this is any kind of a lasting injury. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:53 pm

  • Werth hammers 17th homer in win over Orioles
Jayson Werth went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in Thursday's win over the Orioles.

Advice: Werth's solo homer in the fourth inning got the Nats on the board, and it ended up being all starter Max Scherzer would need. The homer was Werth's 17th of the year, giving him 56 RBI and 68 runs scored. The 37-year-old is hitting .251/.347/.436 overall. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:43 pm
  • Van Slyke (wrist) transferred to 60-day DL
Dodgers transferred OF Scott Van Slyke to the 60-day disabled list.

Advice: That opens up a spot for Shawn Zarraga on the 40-man roster. With less than two months to go, this move effectively ends Van Slyke's season. He was hitting .225 before a right wrist injury sent him to the disabled list in early May. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:36 pm

  • Franklin (concussion) to return this weekend
Nick Franklin (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte on Friday.

Advice: Franklin expects to join the Rays in Houston later this weekend so it looks like he'll only need a game or two in the minors to get back up to speed. He suffered a concussion last week after getting hit by Kevin Kiermaier's backswing in the on-deck circle. Franklin has hit .292 with six steals in 34 appearances for Tampa Bay this year. • Fish designate Oswaldo Arcia for assignment
Marlins designated OF Oswaldo Arcia for assignment.

Advice: Arcia made it just one game with the Fish, getting the boot Thursday to clear a roster spot for new outfielder Jeff Francoeur after being claimed off waivers from the Rays on Tuesday. Arcia has batted just .226/.299/.390 with six home runs and 19 RBI in 177 plate appearances this season between Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and Miami. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 12:36 pm
  • Soler (leg) returns with a 2-for-3 on Wed.
Jorge Soler (leg) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his return to action Wednesday.

Advice: Soler was out a handful of days after fouling a ball off his leg over the weekend. The double was his seventh of the season. He's slashing .246/.328/.440 in 65 games. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 5:43 am
  • Rasmus (ear) cleared for baseball activities
Colby Rasmus (ear) has been cleared to resume baseball activities.

Advice: Rasmus was placed on the disabled list August 5 with a cyst in his right ear and underwent surgery a week later to remove the thing. It had been bothering him since the All-Star break and he was just 4-for-70 (.057) with 25 strikeouts since the beginning of July. • Perez' two-run triple leads Brewers past Rox
Hernan Perez hit a two-run triple in the seventh inning to help the Brewers get past the Rockies 6-4 on Tuesday.

Advice: The hit was Perez' only one in four at-bats, but it was a big one. With two outs and an 0-2 count, Perez slashed a Carlos Estevez pitch down the right field line and into the corner, plating both Jonathan Villar and Ryan Braun to give the Brewers a late lead. It was just the latest noteworthy performance for the 25-year-old this year, who's hitting .282/.308/.458 with 11 homers, 43 RBI, 35 runs scored and 23 steals in 87 games played. • Marlins claim OF Oswaldo Arcia off waivers
Marlins claimed OF Oswaldo Arcia off waivers from the Rays.

Advice: The Rays designated him for assignment on Friday. This will be the third team Arcia has played for in 2016. The 25-year-old hasn't hit much this year (.229 with six homers in 157 at-bats) but he'll give the Marlins some outfield depth while Giancarlo Stanton recovers from a strained groin. • Jon Jay (forearm) hits off a tee

  • Jorge Soler scratched with sore leg
Jorge Soler was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a sore leg.

  • Rays place Nick Franklin on concussion DL
Rays placed INF/OF Nick Franklin on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Advice: Franklin suffered a head injury on Wednesday when he was hit by the backswing from Kevin Kiermaier while standing in the on-deck circle. While he passed all of his concussion tests and was cleared to play on Friday, something clearly wasn't right when he entered as a defensive replacement, lasting only two innings before leaving the game himself. At this point, there's no clear timetable for his potential return. Rotoworld.com Aug 19, 7:36 pm

  • Nick Franklin (head) leaves game on Friday
Nick Franklin (head) was removed from Friday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Franklin, who passed concussion tests and was available off of the bench, entered the game when Kevin Kiermaier was lifted with a hip injury. He was replaced himself just two innings later though, and no reason has been given for the departure. There's a good chance that the issue could be related to the head injury he sustained on Wednesday when he was struck inadvertently by a teammate's backswing. Rotoworld.com Aug 19, 5:46 pm

  • Rays designate Oswaldo Arcia for assignment
Rays activated OF Oswaldo Arcia from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.

Advice: The 25-year-old got off to a hot start after the Rays acquired him in a trade, but he wound up batting just .259/.328/.444 over 61 plate appearances. Arcia will get another shot somewhere, but the former top prospect has certainly been a bust after a promising start to his career. Rotoworld.com Aug 19, 12:34 pm
  • Ruggiano styles grand slam in return from DL
Justin Ruggiano crushed a grand slam in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Giants.

Advice: Ruggiano was just activated from the disabled list on Thursday after sitting out several weeks due to a strained hamstring. He made sure that his return was a memorable one. Facing off against Madison Bumgarner with the bases loaded and one out in the fourth inning, Ruggiano crushed a bomb to center for the grand slam. It put the Mets up 4-0, but that would be quickly be erased by an ineffective Jacob deGrom, as the Giants scored five runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. While Thursday's dinger was smooth enough for Ruggiano, the veteran outfielder has seen just 10 total at-bats between the Rangers -- who released him near the end of June -- and the Mets. There is no true fantasy relevance here. Rotoworld.com Aug 18, 11:00 pm
