  • Holt (concussion) has two doubles in return
Brock Holt (concussion) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in his return from the disabled list Friday versus the Angels.

Advice: Both of his hits were doubles. Holt ended up missing about five weeks with concussion symptoms, but he should see a lot of time in left field now that he’s back in action. He doesn’t offer a lot of upside in fantasy leagues, but his multi-position eligibility can help some rosters. 55 minutes ago

  • Nimmo connects for first MLB homer in win
Brandon Nimmo connected for his first major league homer in a 10-2 win over the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: According to StatCast, Nimmo’s fourth-inning blast traveled 442 feet, which is the longest home run by a Mets player this season. The 23-year-old went 2-for-3 on the night and is batting .280 (7-for-25) through his first six games in the majors. He’s bringing some energy out of the leadoff spot for New York and could be worth a try in deeper mixed leagues for however long he stays there. Today, 9:34 pm
  • Steven Souza to rejoin Rays on Saturday
Rays manager Kevin Cash announced Friday that Steven Souza (hip) will be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

Advice: Taylor Motter has been optioned to Triple-A to create a spot on the roster. The Rays are in desperate need for help on offense, which Souza should provide. Before landing on the shelf with his hip injury, Souza was hitting .255/.315/.443 with 10 homers and 25 RBI. Today, 9:05 pm
  • Rays option Taylor Motter back to Triple-A
Rays optioned INF/OF Taylor Motter to Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Steven Souza will be activated from the disabled list on Saturday, and someone had to be sent out to make room, with Motter being the odd-man out. The utility man should get another shot with the big league club later this summer. Today, 9:03 pm

  • Ender Inciarte day-to-day with groin injury
Ender Inciarte was forced to leave Friday's game against the Marlins due to a minor right groin injury.

Advice: He's listed as day-to-day and should return to the lineup before the end of the weekend. Fantasy owners should have an alternative option ready though if he isn't in Saturday's lineup. Today, 9:01 pm

  • Dodgers bring back Will Venable from Triple-A
Dodgers purchased the contract of OF Will Venable from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Venable had just been outrighted to Triple-A last week, but he's needed back to provide depth in the outfield with Joc Pederson heading to the disabled list. He could be worth a look in NL-only formats where you can skim him against right-handed pitching. Today, 3:56 pm

  • Presley declines assignment, now free agent
Alex Presley has elected free agency.

Advice: The veteran outfielder declined an outright assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs and will look for work elsewhere. He hit just .198/.271/.293 in 47 games with the Brewers. Today, 3:25 pm

  • Piscotty (foot) not starting but is available

    W, 7-1 vs x Mil
  • Juan Lagares (thumb) likely back Sunday
Juan Lagares (thumb) will be activated from the disabled list no later than Sunday.

Advice: It's possible he could return Saturday, but Lagares is slated to start Sunday against Cubs lefty Jon Lester. The outfielder has missed the last two weeks with a sprained left thumb. Today, 1:16 pm

  • Blake Swihart (ankle) hits in the cage
Blake Swihart (ankle) hit in a batting cage on Friday.

Advice: It's a big step in his recovery process. The Red Sox thought initially that Swihart might miss the rest of the season when he severely sprained his left ankle in early June, but he's made a quicker-than-expected recovery. Today, 1:03 pm
    15-Day DL

  • Jason Heyward (side) returns to Cubs' lineup
Jason Heyward (side) is back in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Advice: Heyward missed a couple days of action with some tightness in his left side. He's in right field and batting second against Jacob deGrom and the Mets. Today, 12:40 pm
  • Desmond Jennings (hamstring) sitting out
Desmond Jennings (hamstring) is not in the Rays' lineup Friday.

Advice: Jennings tweaked his left hamstring on Thursday and is likely to miss a few games. Nick Franklin is handling left field. Today, 12:23 pm

  • Alex Presley outrighted to Triple-A

  • Brock Holt activated from disabled list
Red Sox activated INF/OF Brock Holt from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: The Red Sox have said that Holt is still dealing with some symptoms of a concussion, but they apparently think it's something he'll be able to play through. He should get regular time in left field. Today, 11:27 am

  • Hyun Soo Kim homers, drives in two in loss
Hyun Soo Kim went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Mariners.

Advice: Kim cracked a solo home run off Mariners starter Taijuan Walker to lead off the seventh inning. One inning later, he notched an RBI single. The 28-year-old rookie has been used as a part-time piece this season and is hitting a crisp .344/.433/.484 with eight doubles, three homers and 11 RBI across 122 at-bats. Yesterday, 10:33 pm
    L, 5-2 ^ @Sea
  • Maybin's three-run double caps crazy comeback
Cameron Maybin went 3-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run double in the ninth inning that capped an eight-run inning for the visitors, as the Tigers beat the Rays 10-7 on Thursday.

Advice: Maybin led off the ninth inning with a single, and five runs later, he finished off the Rays with a bases-loaded double that put the Tigers ahead for good. During a modest six-game hitting streak, Maybin is 11-for-24 with three doubles, seven RBI and five runs scored. He's got 20 RBI and 25 runs scored in 39 games total, and the 29-year-old is hitting .359/.413/.428 on the season. Yesterday, 9:51 pm
  • Desmond Jennings leaves with tight hamstring
Desmond Jennings left Thursday's game against the Tigers with a tight left hamstring.

Advice: Jennings doubled in his lone at-bat before exiting in the third inning. Brandon Guyer, who started the game in right field, took over for Jennings in center with Nick Franklin substituting in right. Jennings is day-to-day. Yesterday, 6:24 pm

  • Lagares (thumb) could be activated Friday
Mets GM Sandy Alderson says Juan Lagares (thumb) could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Advice: Lagares went on the disabled list a couple weeks ago with a sprained left thumb. So far he's recorded three hits in his first two rehab games for Double-A Binghamton. Before the injury, Lagares was hitting .289 with two homers in 90 at-bats. He could see regular playing time with Curtis Granderson still recovering from a strained calf. Yesterday, 2:15 pm

  • Jason Heyward dealing with side soreness
Jason Heyward has been dealing with muscle tightness in his left side for a few days.

Advice: Heyward suffered the injury making a throw from right field. He's healthy enough to play but manager Joe Maddon decided to play it safe by giving him another day off Thursday against Mets left-hander Steven Matz. Heyward should be back in the lineup on Friday. Yesterday, 2:01 pm
  • Stephen Piscotty (foot) not in Cards lineup
Stephen Piscotty (foot) is not in the Cardinals starting lineup on Thursday.

Advice: Piscotty bruised his left foot while attempting to make a diving catch during Wednesday's game, so he'll sit out on Thursday as a precautionary measure. Brandon Moss will start in right field with Kolten Wong manning center. Yesterday, 1:37 pm
    W, 7-1 vs x Mil
  • Steven Souza begins rehab assignment Friday
Steven Souza (hip) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Charlotte on Friday.

Advice: Souza took live batting practice against Alex Cobb and Chase Whitley on Thursday, taking each right-hander deep in the process. He should only need a couple of games on the farm and could be looking at a return to the Rays lineup for the beginning of next week. Yesterday, 1:27 pm
  • Jason Heyward sitting out on Thursday
Jason Heyward is not in the Cubs' lineup Thursday.

Advice: He's sitting out for the second straight day against a lefty. The Cubs have Ben Zobrist in right field, Matt Szczur in left, Albert Almora in center and Javier Baez at second base. Yesterday, 12:40 pm
  • Ender Inciarte not in lineup Thursday
Ender Inciarte is absent from the Braves' lineup Thursday.

Advice: It appears to just be a day of rest. Chase d'Arnaud is filling in in center field. Yesterday, 12:09 pm

  • Stephen Piscotty nursing foot injury
Stephen Piscotty might not play Thursday due to a bruised left foot.

Advice: Piscotty banged his left foot while making an attempt at a diving catch Wednesday. He remained in the game but didn't look totally comfortable. X-rays ruled out any fractures, though, and he should be considered day-to-day. "Double-swelling going on there," he said. Yesterday, 8:31 am

  • Piscotty hits extra-inning home run vs Royals
Stephen Piscotty hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the 10th inning on Wednesday.

Advice: The Cardinals eventually lost to the Royals in 12 innings. Piscotty went 2-for-6 to boost his line to .288/.369/.466 on the season. He has nine home runs, 45 runs and 40 RBI. Even though he is not a big slugger, his blend of power and average is valuable to any fantasy roster. Wednesday, 10:06 pm
    W, 7-1 vs x Mil
  • Souza (hip) hits, runs bases Tuesday
Steven Souza (hip) hit and ran the bases Tuesday.

Advice: Souza said Monday that he was hoping to begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week, but he hasn't been cleared yet. It's possible he'll take batting practice against rehabbing right-handers Alex Cobb and Chase Whitley on Thursday. We should know more on his status after that. Wednesday, 8:37 am
  • Heyward not in Wednesday's lineup
Jason Heyward is not in Wednesday's lineup versus the Reds.

Advice: The Cubs will go with Matt Szczur, Albert Almora, and Ben Zobrist from left to right in their outfield. Javier Baez, fresh off his grand slam in extras on Tuesday, will play second base. Wednesday, 6:56 am
  • Brewers designate OF Presley for assignment
Brewers designated OF Alex Presley for assignment.

Advice: Jake Elmore was called up Tuesday and took his spot on the 40-man roster. Presley is batting just .198/.271/.293 over 47 games this season, but he could draw some interest on waivers. Tuesday, 11:26 am

  • Brandon Nimmo notches first two hits
Brandon Nimmo notched his first two major league hits in Monday's loss to the Nationals.

Advice: They weren't exactly screamers, as Nimmo hit a soft liner that fell in right field in his first at-bat and then hit a cue shot to third base in his second at-bat that went for an infield single. But, hey, the youngster will take it. Nimmo is in line to receive regular playing time in left field against righties while Michael Conforto irons out his issues in the minors. Monday, 8:11 pm
  • Lagares (thumb) to begin rehab stint Tuesday
Juan Lagares (thumb) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton.

Advice: He's expected to be joined by the newly-signed Jose Reyes, who will move up from Low-A Brooklyn on Tuesday. Lagares has been sidelined since June 14 with a sprained left thumb and still hopes to avoid surgery. Monday, 2:49 pm

  • Holt still dealing with concussion symptoms
Brock Holt is still dealing with some symptoms from his concussion.

Advice: Holt began a minor league rehab assignment last week and concussion specialist Micky Collins thinks that he could be able to push through his current symptoms. The Red Sox expect Holt to be activated on Friday if all goes well. Monday, 2:35 pm

  • Souza (hip) nearing rehab assignment
Steven Souza (hip) is optimistic he'll be able to begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week.

Advice: Souza reported feeling good after hitting in the cage in each of the past two days. He was also scheduled to do some running Monday for the first time since his hip injury earlier this month. Barring a setback, he should rejoin the Rays before the All-Star break. Monday, 1:49 pm
  • Souza (hip) to take batting practice Monday
Steven Souza (hip) will take batting practice on Monday.

Advice: Souza has been limited to hitting in a cage so far but he'll be on the field for Monday's BP session at Tropicana Field. He should be close to beginning a rehab assignment. Souza received a cortisone shot for a strained hip about a week and a half ago. He'll be back before the All-Star break. Monday, 5:53 am
  • Juan Lagares (thumb) resumes activities
Juan Lagares (thumb) has resumed baseball activities at the Mets' spring training complex.

Advice: There's no word yet on when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment. Lagares has decided to put off surgery on his sprained left thumb for now, although we'll have to see how he progresses. Sunday, 9:06 am

  • Will Venable accepts demotion to OKC
Dodgers sent OF Will Venable outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Advice: Venable cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Friday. He logged just one hit in 10 at-bats during his six-game stint with Los Angeles. The 33-year-old is now off the Dodgers' 40-man roster. Saturday, 4:23 pm

  • Brandon Nimmo won't start Saturday's game
Brandon Nimmo won't be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Braves.

Advice: He didn't arrive in Atlanta until late in the afternoon so manager Terry Collins decided to give him a day to get settled. Alejandro De Aza will grab the start in left field and bat seventh against Braves right-hander Julio Teheran. Nimmo should be in the lineup to make his major league debut Sunday in the series finale. Saturday, 2:12 pm
  • Motter hitless in loss to Orioles
Taylor Motter went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday versus the Orioles.

Advice: Motter is now batting .174/.275/.290 on the year. He’s been getting playing time in the outfield recently due to a long list of injuries for the Rays, but Oswaldo Arcia’s arrival should change that. Saturday, 1:27 pm
    L, 10-2 vs x Det
  • Mets recall OF Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A
Mets recalled OF Brandon Nimmo from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: With Michael Conforto headed down the minors, Nimmo should see plenty of playing time in the Mets' outfield in the coming days. He could slot in as the primary left fielder against right-handed pitching, but he's also capable of playing center field. The 2011 first-round pick was batting .328/.409/.508 with five home runs, 37 RBI, and five stolen bases over 63 games this season in Triple-A. He's worth a shot in deeper fantasy leagues. Saturday, 12:30 pm
  • Mets calling up prospect OF Brandon Nimmo
The Mets are expected to call up prospect outfielder Brandon Nimmo on Saturday.

Advice: He's set to replace Michael Conforto, who will reportedly be demoted. The Mets' first-round pick from 2011, Nimmo has put himself back on the prospect map this season by batting .328/.409/.508 with five home runs, 37 RBI, and five stolen bases over 63 games this season in Triple-A. Of course, those numbers are in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so they have to be taken with a grain of salt, but he figures to see plenty of playing time in the Mets' outfielder now that Conforto is headed to the minors. He's more of a wait-and-see option in mixed fantasy leagues, but he should be owned in NL-only formats. Saturday, 10:06 am
  • Jennings out for first game of doubleheader
Desmond Jennings is not in the lineup for the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Advice: Jaff Decker will make the start in center field instead. Taylor Motter will play right field and Corey Dickerson is in left. Saturday, 8:06 am

  • Maybin nets three hits but Tigers lose
Cameron Maybin continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 night at the plate on Friday.

Advice: All three hits were singles. He also drew a walk. Maybin has hit only one home run in 34 games, but his .821 OPS is by far the best of his career. He is now batting .352/.413/.408 in his first season in the American League since his brief debut with the Tigers in 2007. Friday, 7:52 pm
  • Will Venable designated for assignment
Dodgers designated OF Will Venable for assignment.

Advice: Signed less than two weeks ago, Venable picked up one hit in 10 at-bats during his brief time with the Dodgers. He'll likely clear waivers and accept an outright assignment in order to retain a big league contract. Friday, 12:33 pm
    W, 5-0 vs x Col
  • Brandon Nimmo drives in four runs Wednesday
Mets OF prospect Brandon Nimmo reached base four times in Wednesday's win for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: He walked, doubled, singled twice and drove in four runs as the 51s outlasted Reno for a 12-10 win. The 2011 first-round pick has enjoyed a breakout year, hitting .329 with five homers, 37 RBI and five steals. He leads the Pacific Coast League with seven triples and is also sixth in one base percentage (.413). It's going to be hard for the Mets to keep Nimmo in the minor leagues if he continues to swing a hot bat. Thursday, 11:22 am
  • Blake Swihart (ankle) sheds walking boot
Blake Swihart (ankle) is out of a walking boot and has been cleared for throwing.

Advice: Red Sox manager John Farrell called the progress "encouraging" while also cautioning that Swihart is still a long way away from playing in games. Swihart suffered a severe left ankle sprain while jumping against an outfield wall back in early June. The initial thought was that he might miss the remainder of the 2016 season, but a return in August seems plausible. Thursday, 8:17 am

  • Cameron Maybin getting day off Thursday
Cameron Maybin is sitting out Thursday.

Advice: Andrew Romine will start in center field and bat ninth versus Mariners right-hander Adrian Sampson. Thursday, 6:57 am
  • Maybin has two-run triple against Mariners
Cameron Maybin went 2-for-5 with a two-run triple and a run scored Monday against the Mariners.

Advice: The fourth-inning triple was surprisingly the first of the year for the speedy Maybin, who now has 25 for his career. He's got 13 RBI and 19 runs scored in 30 games since coming off the disabled list, and the 29-year-old is batting a cool .354/.411/.416. If he keeps his spot near the top of the Tigers order, those counting stats should continue to swell as the season wears on. Jun 20, 9:02 pm
