  • Yangervis Solarte returns after wife's death
Yangervis Solarte has rejoined the Padres.

Advice: He hasn't played since his wife passed away from cancer last weekend. Solarte has had a strong season for the Padres, hitting .284 with a career-high 15 HR and 68 RBI. Ryan Schimpf handed third base during his absence. Rotoworld.com Today, 3:34 pm

  • Holliday scratched from another BP session
Matt Holliday (thumb) will not take batting practice this weekend.

Advice: He's going to meet with a specialist and hopefully try again Monday. Holliday has encountered numerous setbacks in his recovery from thumb surgery and is running out of time to make his return with only a week left in the regular season. The 36-year-old hasn't played since August 11. Rotoworld.com Today, 3:28 pm

  • Flores (wrist) could be done for the year
ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports Wilmer Flores (wrist) may be done for the season.

Advice: He isn't close to swinging a bat and has already received two cortisone shots since going down with a bruised wrist two weeks ago. Flores could return if the Mets make a deep postseason run but it's a near certainty he won't be back for the final week of the regular season. Assuming that's the case, Flores will close out the 2016 campaign with 16 HR, 49 RBI and a .267 average across 307 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:46 pm

  • Cron has three hits, two RBI in win over HOU
C.J. Cron went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Friday’s 10-6 victory over the Astros.

Advice: Cron had two doubles and a single on the night. He knocked in a run with a double in the second inning and later plated the go-ahead run with a single off Ken Giles in the ninth. The 26-year-old got off to a hot start after returning from the disabled list last month, but he hasn’t been able to sustain it in September. This was his first multi-hit game since September 5. • Duda doubles in win over Phillies
Lucas Duda went 1-for-3 with a double against the Phillies on Friday.

Advice: Mets manager Terry Collins went with Duda on Friday after watching him almost hit a game-winning homer in Thursday’s game. He’s being thrown into the fire, but it looks like he’s getting his timing back at the plate. James Loney has been handling first base duties since the end of May, but that time could be coming to an end. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:14 pm
  • Butler hitless against Jays on Friday
Billy Butler went 0-for-2 with a walk Friday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Tyler Austin replaced him as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning. The Yankees signed Butler in order to give him some at-bats against left-handed starters as they tried to hang in the Wild Card race, but now that they are fading, it’s probably time to commit to Austin as they look toward 2017. • Gerardo Parra (illness) not in Rockies lineup
Gerardo Parra (illness) is not in the Rockies starting like for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Parra was a late scratch from Thursday's lineup due to an illness. It's unclear if Friday's absence is related to him still feeling under the weather, or it's simply a product of the matchup against left-hander Scott Kazmir. He's still considered day-to-day. • Matt Holliday (thumb) to take live BP again
Matt Holliday (thumb) will take live batting practice again this weekend before being activated from the disabled list.

Advice: Holliday took live BP on Friday with no issues but the Cardinals want to see him do it once more before they return him to the active roster. Matt Holliday (thumb) took live batting practice Friday at Wrigley Field.

Advice: Holliday was scratched from a simulated game last Saturday due to swelling in his surgically-repaired right thumb, but he resumed live hitting earlier this week. It seems likely that he's not going to be 100 percent at any point the rest of the way, but the Cardinals could wind up activating him, anyway, even it's to be used in a secondary role. Joe Mauer might not start again until Sunday due to ongoing soreness in his right quad.

Advice: Mauer hasn't started since last Saturday, although he had been slated to play Wednesday before that game was rained out. After a terrific August, Mauer has fallen off to .119/.245/.238 in September. Kennys Vargas has been filling in at first base. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:45 am

  • Mancini belts three-run homer against Red Sox
Trey Mancini went 2-for-3 with a double and a three-run home run in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox.

Advice: Mancini was the only Orioles hitter with an answer for David Price and company, collecting two of the team's six hits and notching the only two Orioles extra-base hits in the game. The three-run homer in the third inning came off David Price. It was the 24-year-old's second homer in three games since being promoted on September 18 after he hit 20 homers between Double-A and Triple-A this year. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:13 pm

  • Butler picks up pair of hits in loss to Rays
Billy Butler went 2-for-4 in a loss to the Rays on Thursday.

Advice: Butler served as the designated hitter and batted cleanup in the game, knocking a pair of singles. He's now hit in each of his six games as a member of the Yankees, going 8-for-18 with a homer and four RBI since signing with the New York club earlier this month. He's hitting .289/.340/.427 overall and at 30 years old, it will be interesting to see if anyone is willing to give him more than a one-year, incentive-laden deal this winter. • Wilmer Flores (wrist) won't play on Thursday
Mets manager Terry Collins has ruled out Wilmer Flores (wrist) for Thursday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Collins deemed the worry-level surrounding Flores' wrist as a "DEFCON 4," so that is somewhat disconcerting. The team had hoped that the 25-year-old infielder would be able to return to the lineup against Phillies southpaw Adam Morgan on Thursday. Flores is currently sidelined by a left wrist injury suffered in a collision at home plate on September 10. Adam Rosales went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

  • Joe Mauer out of action Wed. with quad injury
Joe Mauer (quad) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Mauer has been experiencing soreness in his quads since the middle of August, though he has been able to play intermittently. The veteran first baseman last saw the field on September 10. Kennys Vargas will man first against the Tigers in Mauer's absence and is batting fourth. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:33 pm
