  • Justin Turner (hamstring) returns to action
Justin Turner (hamstring) is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: Turner was pulled from Monday's showdown with the Pirates due to a hamstring cramp and sat out Tuesday's contest. As expected, this was something of a precautionary move. In Wednesday's return to the lineup, Turner is slated to hit third. Today, 3:33 pm
  • Tex not in Wednesday's lineup
Mark Teixeira is not in Wednesday's lineup versus the Rangers.

Advice: Teixeira has hit safely in three out of four games since coming off the DL, but he'll sit against right-hander Nick Martinez. Rob Refsnyder will start at first base and bat ninth. Today, 12:31 pm
    Bot 2, 1-1 vs x Tex
  • Bour not in Wednesday's lineup
Justin Bour is not in Wednesday's lineup versus the Tigers.

Advice: He'll take a seat with left-hander Daniel Norris on the hill for Detroit. Chris Johnson will start at first base and bat sixth. Today, 7:09 am
  • Morrison not in Wednesday's lineup
Logan Morrison is not in Wednesday's lineup versus the Red Sox.

Advice: He'll take a seat against left-hander David Price. Taylor Motter will play first base while Brandon Guyer will play left field and bat fifth. Today, 6:43 am
  • Smoak (knee) appears as defensive replacement
Justin Smoak (knee) served as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Smoak has been held out of the starting lineup since last Wednesday due to knee soreness. He appeared as a pinch hitter on Monday and played defense on Tuesday, so it sounds like he's getting close. Today, 5:36 am

  • Howard comes up clutch with go-ahead RBI walk
Ryan Howard snapped a 3-3 tie with a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning of Tuesday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Howard finished the game 0-for-3, but did manage two walks. His second free pass of the evening would be the key one, as he drew it against Brad Ziegler with the bases loaded to push the Phillies to a 4-3 advantage in the top of the ninth inning. They would win by that final score. Veteran slugger Howard is hitting just .151/.211/.349 this season and lost his starting job to Tommy Joseph earlier this month. Yesterday, 11:34 pm
  • Adams has two hits, RBI in return to lineup
Matt Adams (back) went 2-for-3 with an RBI in his return to the lineup Tuesday.

Advice: Adams hadn't played in almost a week as he battled lower back stiffness, but the big first baseman showed little effects in swatting a couple singles off Royals starter Yordano Ventura. He added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Adams is batting .305/.352/.530 with 34 RBI in 62 games, and he'll need to continue hitting -- and stay healthy enough to be in the lineup -- to hold off Brandon Moss and keep finding starts at first base. Yesterday, 8:31 pm
  • Derek Norris not in Padres lineup on Tuesday
Derek Norris is not in the Padres starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles.

Advice: He'll take a seat in the first game of a brief two-game series against the O's. Christian Bethancourt will suit up behind the plate and bat sixth against Ubaldo Jimenez on Tuesday. Yesterday, 4:07 pm

  • Athletics option INF Max Muncy to Triple-A
Athletics optioned INF Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: The 25-year-old utility man became the odd-man out with Josh Reddick returning on Tuesday. He hit a respectable .257/.366/.314 with a pair of RBI in just 41 plate appearances during his time with the big league club. Yesterday, 3:37 pm

  • Justin Turner (hamstring) absent from lineup
Justin Turner (hamstring) is not in the Dodgers starting lineup on Tuesday.

Advice: Turner was removed from Monday night's game due to a hamstring cramp and is likely sitting out again as a precautionary measure. Chris Taylor is starting in his place at the hot corner and will bat eighth against Chase Anderson and the Brewers. Yesterday, 1:56 pm
  • Smoak (knee) fouled out as pinch-hitter
Justin Smoak (knee) fouled out as a pinch-hitter Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: Smoak has been held out of action since last Wednesday with left knee soreness. That he was able to pinch-hit indicates that he's close to returning to the lineup. Yesterday, 6:06 am
    W, 5-3 x @Col
  • Mark Teixeira homers in loss to Rangers
Mark Teixeira went 3-for-5 with a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

Advice: Teixeira's dinger off of Luke Jackson in the seventh inning looked like it would prove to be the winning run, but the Rangers came back with four runs in the top of the ninth in the rain-delayed marathon. The Yankees' first baseman has gone deep in two of three games since returning from the disabled list. Monday, 11:46 pm
    Bot 2, 1-1 vs x Tex
  • Tommy Joseph strikes out four times
Tommy Joseph fanned four times as part of an 0-for-5 night against the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Advice: The Phillies never should have let Ryan Howard take Joseph under his wing. Following a fast start, Joseph's average now sits at .234, with a .714 OPS. He should continue to start over Howard, but he doesn't look like a mixed-league option right now. Monday, 10:06 pm
    W, 9-8 ^ @Ari
  • Kendrys Morales goes 4-for-4 on Monday
Kendrys Morales went 4-for-4 with a two-RBI single in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: He had four of the Royals' 11 base knocks on the night, as Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar also had multi-hit games. Morales' four-hit night comes on the heels of a two-homer game that he had Sunday. He now has 15 hits over his last 27 at-bats. Monday, 8:51 pm
  • Nick Franklin homers, drives in five for Rays
Nick Franklin went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and five RBI in Monday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Franklin was making just his second start in a week since being recalled and he certainly made it count. He doubled in two runs in the first, singled in one in the third and then took Koji Uehara deep in the seventh. While he might have earned another start or two with this performance, Franklin probably isn't going to play regularly enough to produce stable fantasy value. Monday, 8:35 pm

  • Holt still dealing with concussion symptoms
Brock Holt is still dealing with some symptoms from his concussion.

Advice: Holt began a minor league rehab assignment last week and concussion specialist Micky Collins thinks that he could be able to push through his current symptoms. The Red Sox expect Holt to be activated on Friday if all goes well. Monday, 2:35 pm

  • Turner exits game with hamstring cramp
Justin Turner was removed from Monday's game against the Pirates due to a hamstring cramp.

Advice: His exit was precautionary, so it doesn't sound like a major concern. Consider him day-to-day for now. Monday, 1:35 pm
  • Turner exits game with possible injury
Justin Turner exited Monday's game against the Pirates in the ninth inning with a possible injury.

Advice: Turner appeared to have some cramping in his leg before exiting. The Dodgers should provide an update after the game. Monday, 1:07 pm
  • Yanks outright Davis to Triple-A
Yankees sent 1B Ike Davis outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Davis passed through waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. He has expressed a willingness to stick around as depth in the minors, but it's unclear if he's made an official decision. Monday, 1:03 pm

  • Justin Turner stays hot in loss to Pirates
Justin Turner continued his hot-hitting ways in Sunday's loss to the Pirates, going 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBI.

Advice: Turner accounted for all of the Dodgers offense in this one, smacking a two-run homer off of Chad Kuhl in the third inning and adding on an RBI double in the fifth. He finished the night 2-for-3 and is now slashing .250/.332/.437 with 11 homers and 37 RBI. Sunday, 7:52 pm
  • Teixeira socks first homer since DL return
Mark Teixeira went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Twins

Advice: Teixeira was just activated off the disabled list on Saturday after missing close to a month due to a cartilage tear in his right knee. His solo homer off Twins starter Tyler Duffey in the eighth inning provided the only Yankees run of the afternoon. Prior to the injury, the veteran slugger was slashing just .180/.271/.263. Fantasy owners should feel free to utilize him as normal moving forward, though it might be best to keep him on the bench until he starts to find something of an offensive groove. Sunday, 12:42 pm
    Bot 2, 1-1 vs x Tex
  • Ryan Zimmerman sitting out on Sunday
Ryan Zimmerman is absent from the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's one of a few Nationals regulars getting a day off, as Wilson Ramos and Danny Espinosa are also on the bench. The Nats have Clint Robinson at first base, Jose Lobaton at catcher and Stephen Drew at shortstop. Sunday, 8:25 am
  • Zimmerman has RBI, two runs against Brewers
Ryan Zimmerman went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored Saturday against the Brewers.

Advice: Zimmerman had a sacrifice fly RBI in the seventh inning and scored following a single and a walk in two other innings. The 31-year-old has 33 RBI and 38 runs scored to go with a disappointing .230/.288/.410 line through 64 games. Saturday, 6:57 pm
  • Bour homers in third straight to topple Cubs
Justin Bour homered in his third straight game, racking up three RBI, as the Marlins outlasted the Cubs 9-6 on Saturday.

Advice: Bour is as hot as the day is long, as he's now got four homers in his last six games and is hitting .339 with five homers, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored in the month of June. His home run Saturday was a two-run job, and he also added an RBI double. Bour has 10 home runs, 43 RBI and 27 runs scored with a .273/.342/.535 line on the year. Saturday, 5:59 pm
  • Norris pilfers another base in win over Reds
Derek Norris went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Reds.

Advice: Not known for his speed, Norris now has a stolen base in each of his past two games and three overall this year. He's been finding ways to contribute in recent days, homering three times with 10 RBI and eight runs scored in his last eight games played. He's hitting a less inspiring .213/.269/.394 overall. Saturday, 5:09 pm
    L, 12-6 vs ^ Bal
  • Matt Adams (back) out for second straight game
Matt Adams (back) is absent from the Cardinals' starting lineup Saturday against the Mariners.

Advice: Adams was scratched from Friday's game with lower back stiffness and will sit again Saturday. Brandon Moss will take over for Adams at first base and bat fifth against M's right-hander Nathan Karns. Adams remains day-to-day. Saturday, 3:30 pm
  • Smoak (knee) not in Saturday's lineup
Justin Smoak (knee) is not in Saturday's lineup versus the White Sox.

Advice: Smoak has been dealing with some swelling in his knee this week, so he'll get another day to rest. Edwin Encarnacion will start at first base while Josh Donaldson will slide into the DH spot. Ryan Goins will play third. Saturday, 10:19 am
    W, 5-3 x @Col
  • Yanks designate Ike Davis for assignment
Yankees designated 1B Ike Davis for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot for Mark Teixeira's return from the disabled list. Davis went 3-for-14 (.214) with an RBI during his brief stint with the Yankees. He told reporters that he'll consider staying with the organization if he passes through waivers unclaimed. Saturday, 8:17 am

  • Yankees activate Mark Teixeira from 15-day DL
Yankees activated 1B Mark Teixeira from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: The corresponding roster move isn't yet known. Teixeira has been sidelined since June 3 with a cartilage tear in his right knee, but he'll make his return Saturday and bat sixth against Twins right-hander Ervin Santana. The veteran slugger went 1-for-9 during a brief minor league rehab assignment and will return to a disappointing .180/.271/.263 batting line. Rob Refsnyder played well during his absence, but he's headed back to the bench for now. Saturday, 7:13 am
    Bot 2, 1-1 vs x Tex
  • Bour smashed grand slam but Marlins lose
Justin Bour swatted a grand slam in the first inning but that was all the Marlins could muster in a loss to the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: Bour's slam tied the game at 4-4 in the first inning but only one more run was scored the rest of the game. The big fly was the 13th of the season for Bour, who sports a .268/.339/.515 line on the season. Those rate stats look good but he doesn't have the counting stats to match. His 26 runs and 40 RBI with no steals are not what his owners need from their first baseman. Friday, 8:12 pm
  • Matt Adams scratched from lineup
Matt Adams was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Mariners due to back stiffness.

Advice: Jedd Gyorko made the start at first base in his place. Consider Adams day-to-day. Friday, 7:28 pm
  • Norris hits three-run homer in win over Reds
Derek Norris hit a three-run home run, and the Padres bested the Reds 7-4 on Thursday.

Advice: The Padres were trailing 4-3 when Norris connected on a JC Ramirez pitch for the three-run bomb in the sixth inning. The homer was his second in as many games and his third in his last five contests, giving him 10 home runs and 25 RBI on the year. The power is nice, but Norris' on-base skills have disappeared completely this year en route to a paltry .215/.266/.402 line overall. Thursday, 9:02 pm
    L, 12-6 vs ^ Bal
  • Tommy Joseph scratched Thursday with cold
Tommy Joseph was scratched from the Phillies' lineup Thursday due to an illness.

Advice: It sounds like the same bug that has been traveling around MLB clubhouses over the last week. Andres Blanco will get the start at first base versus the Twins. Thursday, 9:16 am

  • Morrison manages Rays' only extra-base hit
Logan Morrison managed the Rays' only extra-base hit of the evening Wednesday, finishing 1-for-3 with a double.

Advice: The Rays got only three hits all night as they were shut down by Trevor Bauer of the Indians. Morrison has bounced back from an unbelievably terrible month of April to garner some fantasy consideration in deep leagues. The former elite Marlins prospect is now 28 years old and unlikely to ever reach the potential he once had. Wednesday, 6:58 pm
  • Teixeira (knee) feels good after rehab debut
Mark Teixeira (knee) felt good after his rehab debut Tuesday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Advice: Teixeira went 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, but those results are not all that important. "It’s really all about the health," he said. "There’s really nothing else that you can really simulate playing in a full game, and that’s what I have to get to." The veteran first baseman is hoping to be activated from the disabled list this Saturday. He was diagnosed with a cartilage tear in his right knee in early June. Wednesday, 8:21 am

  • Rays recall Nick Franklin from Triple-A
Rays recalled INF/OF Nick Franklin from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Franklin had a brief stint with the Rays earlier this month and he's back now that Mikie Mahtook is headed to the disabled list. The 25-year-old was batting .247/.316/.388 over 58 games in Triple-A this season. He's unlikely to provide fantasy value. Tuesday, 9:52 am

  • Justin Turner hits 10th homer
Justin Turner went 2-for-4 and hit his 10th homer against the Nationals on Monday.

Advice: Turner has raised his OPS a full hundred points, from .668 to .768, while collecting five homers over the last week. It's hard to imagine he's still unowned in any mixed leagues now. Monday, 10:13 pm
  • Brock Holt (concussion) set for rehab games
Brock Holt (concussion) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment on Monday.

Advice: Out since May 28 because of a concussion, Holt will be in the starting lineup at Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday night. And he should be back on the Red Sox active roster before the end of the week. The super-utilityman was batting .239/.310/.354 through 130 plate appearances when he landed on the concussion disabled list. Jun 20, 11:36 am

  • Teixeira (knee) hopes to be activated Sat.
Mark Teixeira (knee) is hoping to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

Advice: Teixeira will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday and will play three games for them before returning to the big club if all goes well. Teixeira has a cartilage tear in his right knee but will attempt to play through it rather than have surgery. Jun 19, 10:11 am

  • Turner fills the scoresheet vs Brewers
Justin Turner went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, one walk and a stolen base on Saturday.

Advice: The home run was of the three-run variety and was Turner's ninth of the season. That follows the two longballs he hit the night before. The stolen base was his first. Turner is batting .248 and has 28 runs and 30 RBI in 236 at-bats. Those are not the kind of numbers that will lead your fantasy team to the championship, but he can be useful as a backup or spot starter, especially if he has multi-position eligibility in your format. Jun 18, 11:24 pm
  • Morales smacks four hits, snares five RBI
Kendrys Morales led the Royals to a 16-5 victory over the Tigers on Saturday by going 4-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored.

Advice: Morales' great game helped the Royals score 16 times without the benefit of a home run. Two of his hits were doubles. The five RBI tied a career high. Morales hit very poorly for the first two months of the season but has been much better in June. Even factoring in the hot streak his .225/.293/.372 season line still looks poor, especially compared to the excellent .290/.362/.485 line he put up last year. Jun 18, 9:48 pm
