  • Ramiro Pena scratched with sore groin
Ramiro Pena was scratched from the Giants' lineup on Wednesday due to a sore groin.

Advice: Pena took a baseball to a bad place on Tuesday night and wasn't feeling so hot during pregame drills on Wednesday. Grant Green will start at second base versus the Reds. Rotoworld.com Today, 12:10 pm

  • White Sox place Lawrie (hamstring) on DL
White Sox placed INF Brett Lawrie on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 22, with a hamstring strain.

Advice: Lawrie suffered the injury last Thursday and wasn't making enough progress on the side. He should be ready in early August. Carlos Sanchez will join the White Sox in a corresponding 25-man roster move. Rotoworld.com Today, 12:07 pm

  • Stephen Drew lands on DL with vertigo
Nationals placed INF Stephen Drew on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 24, with vertigo-like symptoms.

Advice: Drew has been sick for over a week. It was initially diagnosed as a flu, but there is obviously something more going on. He'll try to get healthy and rejoin the Nationals when first eligible in early August. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:33 am

  • Gallo shows off oppo power on first home run
Joey Gallo hit his first home run of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Athletics.

Advice: So it begins. Gallo muscled a Sonny Gray pitch to left-center in the fifth inning to get the Rangers on the board. It was his only hit in four at-bats, and he struck out in two of the four at-bats. That's a typical Gallo night, as he'll strike out plenty but he hits it plenty far when he makes contact. The power makes him fantasy relevant, but the propensity to swing and miss makes him a high-risk, high-reward player. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:56 pm

  • Gonzalez homers twice in loss to Yankees
Marwin Gonzalez hit two home runs in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Gonzalez was one of the only Astros hitters able to get anything done against CC Sabathia and company, taking Sabathia deep for a solo dinger in the first inning before tacking on a one-run shot in the eighth for good measure. The homers gave Gonzalez 10 on the year to go with 28 RBI and 40 runs scored. The 27-year-old is hitting .256/.295/.426 overall. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:54 pm

  • Jose Reyes diagnosed with intercostal strain
Jose Reyes has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 intercostal strain.

Advice: Reyes went to a local hospital for tests after feeling a muscle tweak on his final swing of Tuesday afternoon's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals -- part of a traditional doubleheader at Citi Field. He did not play in the night game (a 3-1 win) and the Mets are expecting him to miss at least a couple of days. This could easily turn into a DL situation. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:04 pm

  • Garcia hits eighth homer in win over Twins
Adonis Garcia went 2-for-4 with a home run in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

Advice: Garcia went deep off Twins starter Ervin Santana in the second inning for a solo shot. The third baseman is hitting .333 with three home runs, nine RBI and nine runs scored in the month of July. The good month has Garcia's overall line up to .264/.300/.389. • Cody Asche goes hitless in loss
Cody Asche went hitless in Tuesday's defeat and is hitting just .125 in 64 at-bats this month.

Advice: Asche got off to a hot start after coming off the disabled list last month, but he's done absolutely nothing lately. He's now possibly in position to lose his starting job to Aaron Altherr in a week or two, though that will also depend on what happens with Peter Bourjos. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:35 pm

  • Brett Lawrie (hamstring) to be placed on DL
Brett Lawrie is headed to the disabled list with a hamstring strain.

  • Valbuena leaves game due to hamstring strain
Luis Valbuena suffered a right hamstring strain on Tuesday night against the Yankees.

Advice: Valbuena pulled up lame while running to first base in the bottom of the second inning. Houston is calling him day-to-day, but a 15-day disabled list stint seems possible. That would open more playing time at third base for top prospect Alex Bregman, who served as the Astros' designated hitter on Tuesday after starting at the hot corner in his MLB debut on Monday. • Valbuena exits game with apparent leg injury
Luis Valbuena left Tuesday's game against the Yankees with a right leg injury.

Advice: Valbuena fell while running to first base in the bottom of the second inning. He looked to be in a good amount of pain as he limped to the home dugout at Minute Maid Park. Valbuena was starting at third base in this one, with top prospect Alex Bregman serving as the Astros' DH. Marwin Gonzalez moved to the hot corner and Jason Castro took over at first base. • Gallo at 1B and batting sixth Tuesday night
Joey Gallo is starting at first base and batting sixth on Tuesday night against the Athletics.

Advice: Mitch Moreland is at designated hitter and Jurickson Profar is starting at shortstop. Gallo will probably get the majority of his playing time at first base, with Moreland seeing a dip in action. The 22-year-old slugger was sporting a .939 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at Triple-A Round Rock. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:59 pm

  • Rangers promote 22-year-old slugger Gallo
Rangers recalled INF/OF Joey Gallo from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Gallo has posted a .949 OPS with 19 home runs and 47 RBI in 70 games this season at the Triple-A level. Plate discipline remains an issue for the 22-year-old, but he has incredible raw power and could take on significant fantasy value if he finds a good offensive groove and regular playing time in Texas. Gallo has appeared in 23 games at first base and 33 games at third base this year with Round Rock. He played a lot of left field last year. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:35 pm

  • Trevor Plouffe (rib) nearing rehab assignment
Trevor Plouffe (rib) hopes to begin a minor league rehab assignment by the end of this week.

Advice: But manager Paul Molitor cautioned that the middle of next week is more likely. Plouffe has been on the disabled list since July 4 with a fractured rib. He was batting just .252/.283/.399 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 58 games before the injury. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:30 pm

Brett Lawrie (hamstring) is out of the starting lineup again Tuesday against the Cubs.

  • Nunez (2-5, HR, 2 RBI) stars in Monday's win
Athletics 3B prospect Renato Nunez homered and drove in two runs Monday in a win for Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Nunez plated a run with an RBI single in the fourth before driving a solo home run off Omaha right-hander Clayton Mortensen in the fifth inning. The 22-year-old has contributed at least one RBI in each of his last four games. Nunez has shown nice power this year with 15 round-trippers in 359 at-bats, though it's come with a disappointing .228 batting average. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:47 am

  • Eugenio Suarez hits 17th homer
Eugenio Suarez had a two-run homer and a double Monday against the Giants.

Advice: It's disappointing that Suarez's OBP has been hanging right around .300 for much of the year, but he's up to 17 homers now. It's too bad those homers have come with just seven doubles and a 100/27 K/BB ratio in 345 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Monday, 10:53 pm

  • Tyler Saladino delivers game-winner
Tyler Saladino went 2-for-4 with a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth as the White Sox edged the Cubs 5-4 on Monday.

Advice: Saladino is outhitting Brett Lawrie over the last month and is the superior defensive second baseman, so maybe it's time to give him a crack at the starting job. He wouldn't do much for fantasy leaguers if it happens, but as far as the White Sox are concerned, he just needs to be a better player than Lawrie. Right now, Saladino has a .722 OPS in 130 AB, while Lawrie is at .723 in 351 AB. Rotoworld.com Monday, 9:20 pm

  • Javier Baez goes 3-for-4, homers
Javier Baez finished 3-for-4 with a homer and a doubles Monday against the White Sox.

Advice: Most of Baez's success this year has come off lefties, so it was nice to see him collect extra-base hits against a pair of righties in this one. It could help him earn some more playing time. Rotoworld.com Monday, 9:10 pm

  • Luis Valbuena reaches four times
Luis Valbuena went 3-for-3 with a walk Monday in the loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Valbuena reached base safely four times in four plate appearances. The rest of the Astros did so four times in 31 plate appearances in the 2-1 loss. That's why Valbuena won't be losing his starting job to Alex Bergman or Yuleski Gurriel this month. He'll sit against a lot of lefties, but he'll be in there at first base or DH against righties. • Reyes notches RBI triple in win over Marlins
Jose Reyes went 1-for-5 with an RBI triple in Sunday's win over the Marlins.

Advice: Reyes showed that despite his age (33), he still brings a strong speed element to play whenever he steps to the dish. In Sunday's case, he collected an RBI triple against Marlins starter Jose Urena in the third inning. Since the Mets called him up on July 5, the embattled third baseman is slashing .242/.284/.516 with three homers, eight RBI and three steals over the course of 62 at-bats. He has quietly picked up hits in eight of his last 10 games. He is worth a shot in NL-only and deeper mixed-league formats at this juncture. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 1:34 pm

  • Garcia goes 2-for-4 with a run and RBI
Adonis Garcia stroked two hits in four chances, adding an RBI and a run scored on Saturday.

Advice: He singled and scored in the first inning. He singled again in the third inning to drive in Freddie Freeman. The 31-year-old is playing most every day for the Braves but has not put up the kind of numbers to be a viable fantasy option. He is batting .257 with 7 home runs in 299 plate appearances. • Drew strokes walk-off RBI double on Saturday
Stephen Drew was called upon to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth inning and stroked a game-winning RBI double as the Nationals won in walk-off fashion on Saturday.

Advice: Drew has been relegated to part-time duty this season but has hit well when given the chance. After being one of the game's worst batters the last two years, Drew is hitting .255/.313/.539 this year. He has seven home runs in only 103 at-bats. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 7:48 pm

Jose Reyes filled up the box score Friday against the Marlins by going 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base.

Advice: Reyes had a double and a pair of singles. He scored on a pair of sacrifice flies by Yoenis Cespedes. This was Reyes’ first three-hit game of the season and his first multi-hit game since July 10. He’s batting .250/.298/.538 overall. The Mets could use more games like this one from him. Yangervis Solarte went 3-for-4 with a home run in a loss to the Cardinals on Thursday.

Advice: Solarte hit a solo dong in the eighth inning, his 10th homer of the year. He finished the proverbial triple shy of the cycle in the game. Amidst a down year for the Padres, the 29-year-old Solarte is having a quietly good season, batting .297/.366/.530 with 39 RBI and 27 runs scored in 56 games. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 8:49 pm

Advice: Reyes' primary goal is getting more comfortable at third base, but he'll also continuing working in center field just in case. Gallo is still a power-hitting behemoth but he hasn't been able to crack the Rangers' lineup with Adrian Beltre occupying third base and Shin-Shoo Choo and Nomar Mazara blocking his path at corner outfield.
