    • Jeff Baker went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Mariners.
Advice: Baker is only playing against left-handers, so manager Ron Washington made the switch back to David Murphy when the Mariners brought in a righty. Baker has been terrific at his job so far, hitting .354 with five homers in 48 at-bats. Still, his fantasy value is quite limited while he plays on average twice a week.

    • Joe Saunders fell to 3-5 after giving up six runs in five innings against the Rangers on Friday.
Advice: The Mariners had to know Saunders would give up more than his share of homers and hits after adding him to their rotation; the surprise is that he's already walked 22 batters in 57 2/3 innings. Last year, he walked a total of 39 in 174 2/3 innings. Saunders is at best a matchup guy in AL-only leagues. He'll be worth playing next week when he gets a road start in San Diego.

    • Brandon Belt (back) returned to action Friday against the Rockies.
Advice: Belt played all nine innings in the loss and finished 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. He had been dealing with lower back tightness, but was able to return following Thursday's off day. Belt is batting .300 (6-for-20) with one home run over his last seven games.

    • Brandon Belt is out of Wednesday's lineup due to back tightness.
Advice: It isn't a major concern, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy didn't want to take any chances. Consider him day-to-day for now. Brett Pill is filling in at first base Wednesday.

    • Brandon Belt went 4-for-5 with his sixth home run of the season and four runs scored in Monday's 8-0 blowout of the Nationals.
Advice: Belt has reached base safely in 10 of his last 11 starts. Belt suffered through a forgettable April, batting .235/.287/.353, but his playing time and production have both spiked in May. Belt cut down his strikeouts and increased his rate of walks and his numbers reflect an improved approach at the plate. In May, he's slashing .250/.357/.521 with three homers over 48 at-bats.

    • Brandon Beachy (elbow) allowed two runs over four innings in his first official minor league rehab start Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Advice: It was his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. Beachy is expected to make around five starts in the minors, so he should be an option for the Braves' rotation in 3-4 weeks if he can avoid setbacks.

    • Michael Bourn is not in Saturday's lineup against the Red Sox.

    • Matt Dominguez (quad) was 1-for-3 with a home run Friday in his return to the lineup.
Advice: Dominguez missed two days with a quad injury, but it was never a major concern. The 23-year-old now has five home runs and is batting .247/.389/.670 in 44 games this season.

    • Matt Dominguez (quad) is expected to return to the Astros' starting lineup on Friday evening.
Advice: Dominguez sat out Wednesday and will also use Thursday's scheduled team off day to rest his tight left quad. "I'm starting to figure certain things out at the plate, and I like to play," said the third baseman, "but it's better to take the two days off now than risking weeks when it's something that can be treated pretty easily."

    • Matt Dominguez is out of the Astros' lineup on Wednesday night because of left quad tightness.
Advice: The Astros have a scheduled team off day on Thursday, so giving Dominguez the night off Wednesday affords him two full days of rest. The 23-year-old third baseman is batting just .245/.275/.371 in 43 games this season but he's one of the best defensive infielders in MLB.

    • Matt Dominguez went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run homer off Jeremy Guthrie as the Astros topped the Royals 6-5 on Monday.
Advice: Dominguez has four homers in 10 days after going his first 33 games without one. Unfortunately, that is all he's done in the 10 days; he has just two other hits and no walks besides the homers, and his average has dipped to .239. Still, it's a whole lot better than no homers.

    • Jeremy Hefner gave up two runs in six innings Friday against the Braves.
Advice: The game was suspended after eight innings and will resume Saturday. Hefner gave up a two-run homer to Freddie Freeman in the first inning, but retired 16 out of the final 19 batters he faced before exiting. However, LaTroy Hawkins coughed up the lead in the top of the eighth, which means that Hefner is still winless. He stuck out seven and walked two in the no-decision and owns a 4.67 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across nine starts and one relief appearance this season. He's not an option outside of deeper NL-only formats.

    • A.J. Pollock went 3-for-4 with an RBI from the leadoff spot in Friday's win.
Advice: Pollock was probably looking at a demotion right about now if Adam Eaton's rehab went as hoped. As is, he'll remain in the majors and continue to start against lefties for a few more weeks. He's 8-for-14 the last five days after breaking out of a 1-for-19 slump.

    • Chris Capuano gave up six runs -- five earned -- in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Advice: Capuano turned in back-to-back strong outings before tonight's stinker against a fine St. Louis offense, so we'll let him off the hook. It wouldn't have mattered much if he had allowed only one or two runs anyway; the Dodger offense wasn't getting anything done in the shutout tonight.

    • Justin Grimm won after allowing three runs and 10 hits in 6 1/3 innings versus the Mariners on Friday.
Advice: With some help from Jeff Nelson. Grimm intercepted an attempted 3-6-3 double-play relay in the second inning tonight while first baseman Mitch Moreland was still reaching for the ball. Nelson never realized that the pitcher, not the first baseman, caught the ball and gave the Rangers the out. It proved to be an especially big play when Brendan Ryan followed with a rare double. Were the call gotten right, it doesn't seem nearly so likely that Grimm would have pitched into the seventh inning tonight.

The veteran infielder went 2-for-5 with two RBI on the night and is hitting .343 (11-for-32) over his last nine games.
