  • Devin Williams (back) nearing mound work
    Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy told reporters on Saturday that Devin Williams (back) remains on track to return after the All-Star break.

    Advice: Murphy also noted that the 29-year-old hurler is expected to get on a mound soon as he continues his recovery from a pair of stress fractures in his back. While Trevor Megill has been outstanding in his stead, Williams is one of the premiere closers in all of baseball and should jump right back into the Brewers’ ninth inning role as soon as he’s healthy enough to do so.   • Expected to throw off mound soon
    Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Saturday that Williams (back) is expected to be cleared to throw off a mound soon, Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic reports.

    Advice: Murphy also added that Williams remains on track to return just after the All-Star break, although that would seem to be a tentative timetable given that the reliever has yet to resume throwing off a mound.   • Max Scherzer to make rehab start Saturday at Triple-A
    Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a minor league rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A Round Rock.

    Advice: Scherzer appears to be close to making it back for the defending World Series champions after suffering a thumb-related setback during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery.     Gore (6-5) earned the win Friday over the Marlins, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings. He struck out 10.

    Advice: Gore was excellent Friday, holding Miami to a lone second-inning run en route to his fourth win in his last five starts. It's the third double-digit strikeout outing for Gore this year as he lowered his ERA to 3.24 with a 1.32 WHIP and 91:23 K:BB through 14 starts (75 innings) this season.   • MacKenzie Gore strikes out 10 in seven innings
    MacKenzie Gore struck out 10 Marlins across seven innings in an 8-1 win on Friday night. He allowed just one earned run and walked one batter. He earned the win.

    Advice: Gore was downright dazzling in this one. He challenged the Marlins again and again with his fastball high in the zone and they swung and missed at it 12 times in 35 tries. His heater is special sitting 96 MPH from the left side with tons of ride. He’s put an emphasis on throwing it up in the zone this season and that has helped him reach new heights. This was his third start so far with double-digit punch outs and he’s allowed more than three earned runs just once. His breakout is indisputable at this point. Rotoworld Friday, 6:13 pm

    Helsley worked around a pair of walks in the ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Cubs. He struck out two.

    Advice: After recording the first two outs in the ninth, Helsley issued consecutive walks to Seiya Suzuki and Ian Happ before striking out Nico Hoerner to earn his MLB-leading 23rd save of the year. Helsley hasn't blown a save since March 30, in his first appearance of the season. His ERA on the year is down to 2.61 with a 1.13 WHIP and 35:10 K:BB across 31 innings.   • Ryan Helsley picks up 23rd save with hitless ninth
    Ryan Helsley notched his 23rd save Friday with a hitless ninth against the Cubs.

    Advice: Helsley walked a pair of batters with two outs, drawing a visit from the pitching coach, but he then struck out Nico Hoerner to end the game.     Ryan (5-5) earned the win over Oakland on Thursday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out five batters over seven innings.

    Advice: Ryan surrendered a two-run homer to Tyler Soderstrom in the second inning, but those were the only runs the A's managed against the righty hurler. Ryan finished with a stat line very similar to his previous outing, when he gave up two runs on three hits over seven frames versus Pittsburgh, though that performance came in a losing effort. The 28-year-old pitcher has four quality starts over his past five appearances and has posted a 2.73 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 32:7 K:BB across 33 frames during that span. Rotowire.com Friday, 12:42 am

  • Likely stuck at Triple-A, for now
    Scott allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out six over 3.2 innings for Triple-A Syracuse against Lehigh Valley on Wednesday.

    Advice: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said earlier this week -- prior to Scott's outing Wednesday -- that the plan was for the right-hander to remain at Syracuse for the time being, per Alex Smith of SNY. "We're still having conversations, but with all the off days we have coming up, we feel like a five-man rotation is what's best for us moving forward," Mendoza said. The 24-year-old Scott has struck out 49 batters in 34 innings with Syracuse this season, though he has also struggled to keep the ball in the yard, both at Triple-A and in his brief time in the majors so far.
