      Pivetta took a no-decision Saturday against Cincinnati, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 4.1 innings.

      Advice: All three of the runs allowed by Pivetta came via the long ball -- Spencer Steer tagged him for a two-run homer in the first inning, and Elly De La Cruz launched a solo shot in the third. Pivetta didn't damage his ERA too dramatically, but he exited after 4.1 innings after racking up 96 pitches. It was the third time over his past six starts that he's failed to complete five frames, though the right-hander also has a pair of seven-inning quality starts during that span.     • Pivetta allows three in no-decision against Reds
      Nick Pivetta allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings and got a no-decision against the Reds on Saturday.

      Advice: Pivetta gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. He was on the hook for the loss before a late comeback by the Red Sox offense. It was another pedestrian start from Pivetta that might be becoming a trend. In his first eight starts of the year, he had 51 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings. In his last three starts, he’s had just 13 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Padres at home next weekend.

    • Blows save chance Thursday
      Estrada (3-1) blew a save but was credited with the win in Thursday's victory versus the Brewers. He allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters over one inning.

      Advice: Primary closer Robert Suarez had pitched on back-to-back days, so San Diego turned to Estrada with a two-run lead in the ninth inning, though the latter had taken the mound on consecutive days as well. Estrada couldn't close things out, giving up a pair of runs on a walk, a single, a wild pitch and a double. To his credit, the right-hander kept the game tied by striking out the final two batters he faced, and he ended up in the win column when Jake Cronenworth smacked a walk-off home run in the bottom of the frame. Though Estrada continues to rack up punchouts -- of his past 13 outs, 12 have come via strikeout -- he's been struggling of late, giving up eight runs on 10 hits and three walks over that span of five outings.     • Jeremiah Estrada winds up with win after BS
      Jeremiah Estrada took a blown save but ended up with a win after allowing two runs in the ninth Thursday against the Brewers.

      Advice: In Estrada’s defense, he really should have Christian Yelich struck out to begin the ninth, which probably would have led to a scoreless frame. Instead, he allowed on a walk to Yelich and two hits. It was quite curious that the Padres decided to use Estrada and avoid Robert Suarez tonight. Both had worked the previous two days, but Suarez threw fewer pitches in those outings, and had, unlike Estrada, gone four straight days without working previously. He is also the older of the two by eight years. If we were the Padres, we’d consider Estrada the more important reliever of the two going forward.       Kimbrel (5-2) earned the win and blew a save against the Yankees on Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout in the ninth inning.

      Advice: Kimbrel was called upon to protect a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning but allowed a leadoff double by Anthony Volpe and a game-tying single by Giancarlo Stanton. He was able to keep the game tied and the Yankees won in the 10th inning to earn Kimbrel the win. Until Wednesday, Kimbrel had not allowed an earned run since May 8 or blown a save since April 28. On the season Kimbrel is now 16-for-20 in save chances and owns a 2.63 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 39:11 K:BB over 27.1 innings. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:10 pm
