    • Hunter Brown strikes out nine against Mariners
Hunter Brown limited the Mariners to one run over six innings and struck out nine in a no-decision Tuesday.

Advice: The result certainly wasn’t what Houston wanted, but Brown’s outing was awfully encouraging. Boasting maybe his best slider of the year, he got 14 missed swings and topped his previous season high for strikeouts by two. It’s his third quality start and just the second time he’s gone without allowing a walk. In truth, it was a strong enough showing to make him worth considering in mixed leagues in which he’s been dropped. Rotoworld Tuesday, 11:01 pm

    • Falls to St. Louis
Abbott (3-5) took the loss Tuesday against the Cardinals, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Abbott held St. Louis to three runs through six innings, as he pitched into the seventh for a third straight start. However, Abbott would allow the first three batters to reach in the frame, punctuated by a Nolan Gorman homer, en route to an eventual 7-1 loss. The 24-year-old left-hander had held opponents to two earned runs or fewer in nine of his 10 starts prior to Tuesday. Abbott's ERA rose to 3.29 with a 1.13 WHIP and 46:17 K:BB over 63 innings this year. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week in Colorado. • Andrew Abbott hit hard in loss to Cardinals
Andrew Abbott allowed six runs on seven hits in six innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Advice: It was only a matter of time before there was a rough start for the left-hander who came into the day with a 2.68 ERA but a 4.38 SIERA and just an 8.3 percent swinging strike rate. His sweeper performed well on Tuesday, but the rest of his arsenal lagged behind a bit and while he didn’t get hit overly hard, he had just an 18 percent whiff rate and 23 percent CSW on the day. He’ll now take a 3.29 ERA into a game in Coors Field next week. He’s a very risky start there. Rotoworld Tuesday, 6:20 pm

    • Picks up third win
Bibee (3-1) earned the win over the Angels on Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over six innings while striking out six.

Advice: All of the damage against Bibee came in the bottom of the third, when he allowed two of the first four batters to reach before surrendering a three-run blast to Taylor Ward. However, the right-hander was able to work his way out of trouble for the rest of the night while inducing 20 swings and misses. Bibee has now logged back-to-back quality starts and has given up three runs or fewer in six of his last eight outings. Saturday also marked his first win since April 21 against the Athletics (span of six starts). Rotowire.com Sunday, 5:49 am

    • Bibee picks up third win Saturday
Tanner Bibee allowed three runs in six innings and got the win in the Guardians’ 4-3 victory over the Angels on Saturday.

Advice: Bibee’s win was his third of the season. He allowed six hits, one walk and struck out six. Bibee got touched up by Taylor Ward for a three-run home run, but otherwise held down the Angels offense for the rest of his outing. His ERA is now 3.99 on the season. The 25-year-old right-hander is set to face the Nationals at home next week.

    • Throws six shutout innings
Rodon (6-2) earned the win Friday over the Padres, pitching six shutout innings while allowing three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Advice: Rodon wasn't dominant, but the Padres' offense didn't find much success. This was a fourth straight quality start for the southpaw, who has won all of those outings while allowing just five runs over 24.1 innings. Rodon has had just one bad start this season -- May 2 in Baltimore, when he got tagged for six earned runs over four innings. He has a 2.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB over 61 innings through 11 starts on the season. The 31-year-old is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels in a favorable matchup. • Carlos Rodón blanks Padres over six in victory
Carlos Rodón blanked the Padres over six innings to pick up a win Friday.

Advice: This was far from Rodón at his most dominant, as the left-hander only struck out two batters. It was still an effective outing for the 31-year-old, as he allowed just three hits and eliminated any traffic that San Diego put up against the southpaw. Rodón has been much more effective in 2024 — a bit of faint praise considering his struggles in 2023 — and he’s lowered his ERA to 2.95 with these shutout frames. The Yankees and fantasy managers should be pleased with what they’ve seen, even if the metrics suggest a smidgen of good luck thus far. Rotoworld Friday, 9:26 pm
    • Throws first career shutout
Garrett (1-0) allowed four hits and struck out six while walking none, tossing a complete-game shutout to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: Garrett had the best start of his career, throwing just 95 pitches (71 strikes) over his nine innings Friday. He began the year on the injured list with a shoulder injury and allowed 11 runs in 9.2 innings over his first two starts before this gem. Garrett has a 5.30 ERA on the year, but his 1.02 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB across 18.2 innings paint a much more encouraging picture. The 2016 first-rounder is projected for a road start versus the Padres his next time out. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:26 pm

    • Braxton Garrett hurls shutout vs. Diamondbacks
Braxton Garrett fired a complete-game shutout on Friday, leading the Marlins to a 3-0 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Garrett scattered four hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out six. The left-hander needed only 95 pitches to complete the shutout, and 71 of those were able to land for strikes. Simply put, the D-backs’ offense was once again lethargic, but Garrett had easily his best start since coming back from the injured list early in May. The 26-year-old will face off against the Padres on Wednesday and try to duplicate this effort. It’s unlikely, but Garrett has the stuff to provide relevance over the final 2/3 of the season.
