Gabriel Moreno (thumb) could return TuesdayGabriel Moreno (thumb) could be activated off the injured list as as soon as Tuesday, Jody Jackson of the Diamondbacks reports.
Advice: Moreno was placed on the injured list last Saturday with a sprained left thumb, and heāll be eligible for activation Tuesday. The 24-year-old may get a couple extra days, but the Diamondbacks already announced they donāt believe he needs a rehab assignment, so it would take something unforeseeable for him not to be back before the middle of the week. Returning from four-game absenceCandelario (hamstring) will serve as the Reds' designated hitter and No. 3 batter in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Advice: After missing out on four straight starts due to hamstring tendinitis, Candelario will draw back into the lineup in a non-defensive role as he makes his fifth start of the season at DH. With Noelvi Marte recently completing his 80-game suspension and likely to see the bulk of the starts at third base moving forward, Candelario could end up picking up most of his playing time at either DH or first base, which should help aid his recovery from the hamstring issue. Raps three hits SaturdayArraez went 3-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Red Sox.
Advice: Arraez notched his fourth multi-hit game over his past nine contests and his first three-hit performance of June. The infielder ranks third in the majors with a .315 average on the campaign, though he's at .325 since joining the Padres in a trade with Miami in early May. Arraez's minuscule 5.7 percent strikeout rate leads all qualified MLB hitters, though his 4.1 percent walk rate is on pace for the lowest mark of his career and he has just two homers along with three thefts on the season. Advice: Goldschmidt went hitless in his previous two games, though he's gone 14-for-59 (.237) with four homers and eight RBI over his last 15 contests. Advice: Marte opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, which was ultimately enough offense for Arizona to win. He's been good over the latter half of June, going 16-for-45 (.356) with seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI over his last 12 contests. Advice: Sewald has picked up saves in four straight appearances and in seven of his 10 outings in June. Initial X-rays come back negative for Corey SeagerInitial X-rays on the injured left hand/wrist of Corey Seager came back negative for any fractures on Saturday.
Advice: That doesnāt necessarily mean that the coast is clear, as heāll still undergo additional testing, but itās very encouraging to hear that there were no fractures revealed on the initial X-rays. X-rays negativeSeager's (wrist) X-rays came back negative and he'll undergo further evaluation Sunday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Advice: Seager was hit in the left wrist by a pitch during Saturday's game against the Orioles and was immediately removed from the contest. Considering he looked to be in significant pain, Seager's X-rays returning negative is certainly an encouraging sign. Sill, it seems like he'll be held out of Sunday's series finale.
